Hey -- Just to kind of add on to the Matt Chamberlain sightings - maybe somebody has mentioned this all ready, I dunno - but he also played a major part in Natalie Merchant's new release "Motherland." I was pleased because I love Natalie's music *almost* as much as Tori's. If you don't have "Motherland" I would recommend it. Natalie included major folky (like heavy, real folk, not today's alternative folk) and R&B songs on the new CD. Also of interest, Natalie also plays the Rhodes and Wurtlizer on her new album, which I thought was kind of interesting. Nobody ever replied, but I found out that it was indeed Igloo Records. For some reason, I was under the impression that Pet was the only release from the label. Maybe because that's the only one that ever gets mentioned?! Anyway, after doing some research I found a few interesting articles. The first one was something printed in the Indiana Daily (and on The Dent @ thedent.com/igloo.html) talking about the start of the label and the debut of the band Pet. Then -from the root that started it all- the Uninvited's website had some old cached news on their site. July '97: "We inked the deal with Igloo/Atlantic Records on June 20th, and we couldn't be happier. We like the people we're working with, they like us, they don't want to change us, we're not going to change, and all seems in basic coolness. Woo! Igloo Records is a division of Atlantic. In fact, they're a wholly operated arm of Atlantic. Igloo is owned by a manager named Arthur Spivak and one of his clients, Tori Amos (Yes, that Tori Amos. We met her, in fact, after one of our shows at the House of Blues in Los Angeles. Very nice person). Igloo is in charge of the day-today operations, while Atlantic is in charge of things like distribution, promotion and all that business stuff." (The Univited's major-label debut was released in '98.) May '99: "We have parted ways with both our management and our record label. Actually, that's a nice way of putting it. We were dropped by Igloo/Atlantic Records. For those of you not affiliated with music biz jargon, being dropped is a descriptive metaphor for being let go from an employer. We were dropped from the label in pretty much the same way one would drop a hamburger tainted with the E-coli bacteria. What this means is we no longer record albums for or receive promotion from the Igloo/Atlantic label. This is a bummer in the respect of what could have been: Igloo could have been our ticket to mass exposure and some financial success. This is not a bummer in terms of what actually was: Igloo was like a dead-and-stinking albatross of beauracracy chained around our neck... " I don't know why, but I just found that *very* interesting. Were there any other (than Pet and The Uninvited) bands on that label?! I know that in another mention on The Dent (thedent.com/music3.html) it said that as of 2000, it appears the label is gone and something that Tori is no longer interested in. Anyone have any other information about this? I'm just curious!!! No ones inferring anything of the sort. 97 B&C on tour is just speculation at this point - right kiddies? I don't think she has gone on record anywhere, from what I have read, stating whether 97 B&C is recorded or live each night. If anyone knows of such a quote please enlighten us. As for the idea that T does things - always - this way or that way... well... It's not helpful to assume that either IMO. In Tori's bag there's got to be room for new ways of doing things. After all, she did begin this tour with the same song presentation, I don't think she's done that before. Add in that she does have her child with her this tour, again new. That alone adds work and stress. From all I have read T & M are both hands-on parents & don't leave Tash to the care of her Nanny all the time. Many things must be factored in, stuff we have no way of knowing. Speculate & research are all we can do. So, to research ~ It's a great idea to compare the live boots to the actual cd version as well as as many other boots as possible. If possible I would listen to two versions - album & boot - at the same time in a *clean* room. That way you can hear even the tiniest of nuances. I did this very thing with a recording I needed to hear detail on, it worked beautifully. I have recently become owner of an untitled 13 track cassette Tori made before LE was an album. Basically the shirts at Atlantic were giving her another shot at a new album after YKTR flopped. (Post YKTR days, pre LE days, around time T moved to UK - late 90, early 91 according to the tapes previous owner.) If one were listening & going about their business - chores, opening doors, walking to 'n fro, basic living life stuff - then maybe a few would hear the differences to the final recording we now know as Little Earthquakes. But, if you sit and do nothing but listen to the tape you can hear the differences - some subtle, some more detectable. And if you play them side by side simultaneously ------ OMG! The differences are so phenomenal it gives ya chills!! Other goodies the tape offers: Inclusion of Sweet Dreams, Russia (Take to the Sky), Upside Down & Flying Dutchman. Absent are Happy Phantom, China & Me & A Gun. Plus the most delish looong pause in Winter. She should have kept it in. Track times are different, sleeve gives Spivaks LA number. What a find! Possibly same as one T sent Neil? I'd love to know, wouldn't you? Where's Neil when you need him!?! Toodles ~ MysT *So, whoever does compare tour 97 B&C to another source - do let us in. **Recently I joined just about every T mail group I could find to do some research. Kudos to this lists owners and to all of us for keeping it adult & focused on Tori. PT really does stand out. Some of the posters on other lists stick out like tarantulas on a birthday cake. Some girl named Christy seriously needs to be shown the hard pointy end of a boot - I volunteer. Exactly how many times can a single person post in one day? Ask Nathan!
