The reason I say this is because they usually do some sort of music feature on Fridays and because my sister and I ran into Joni Michels at the show. We talked to her for a few and informed me that she was interviewing Tori. She had a camera guy with her, and told us she'd be sure to tell us "hello" tomorrow before the segment. So if you're in the area, check it out! It may not be much, but who knows! Just a heads up in case. :-) Peace, ~Shaigirl shaigirl79@hotmail.com "I know I'll never know nobody better than I know myself but I can't even figure out just what the hell I'm all about." -Bob Schneider _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 14:53:26 +0200 From: "Ma'ayan Or" Subject: A SLG from an Israeli paper Hi! This is another SLG review, published in Israeli TV guide Rating, on October 24th. I have translated it so that everyone could read. It got 4 out of 5 stars. The review included the Satin Worship photo. My Travels with Myself Tori Amos - Strange Little Girls **** For ten years Tori Amos has not changed. The same singing, the same hair. The same complex albums, that fall somewhere between the soft, almost classic piano ballads, to the weird conversation she has with her mediums and imaginary friends who lay her down to sleep, so that she can dream of the rape and the miscarriage and the crushed heart, and with a bit of luck, wake up in the morning, look at the white piano, and decide not to slit the wrists. For ten years Tori Amos can trust the same million people, around the globe, to buy every CD she'd release, within a few weeks of its' release date. She doesn't have to change or to keep up to date, or to become less personal, or less feminine, or to strip herself less. Just to keep her part of the deal, release another album, easier for consumption (like 1994 Under the Pink), or more difficult (like 1996 Boys for Pele), and fertilize the same ten word conversation she has with the exact same people. The rest will hate her anyway. They'll say she's pretentious and takes herself seriously. She'll be hated especially for this album. Twelve covers, of Depeche Mode, Curt Cobaine, Emiem, Lou Reed, fucking Lennon and Mcarthny. All have been processed, with no discounts, to Tori Amos-ic versions, became a mosaic of twelve lost girls, and chain raped by countless pianos. This is Tori. Just like the kids who insist on pouring ketchup on every possible food, no matter what. Those who like her, would like her more, for all those classics suddenly seem to them as if they were sung from their own throats. Those who hate her, would hate her more. Maybe she just does it for the spite of it, maybe some spirit she consults advised her to repair her karma with a Neil Young cover. Never mind. The result is the exact same result. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 09:24:34 -0400 From: strange little woj Subject: admin: hitzel pt folk, some of you have been cc'ed on doug hitzel's (hitzel@navix.net) repeated (and voluminous) requests to be removed from precious-things. i'm working on it, so if you are one of the unfortunates to have been mail-bombed by him, please just delete those cc's. i apologize for any trouble they may have caused. woj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 11:25:31 -0400 From: strange little woj Subject: Re: readjusting to sex when we last left our heroes, VioletLilith@aol.com exclaimed: >so, now i am confused on why there would be info out there >stating that she was just forced to sing at knifepoint!?! the single source for this information, until the recent irish independent article, was the hot press article written by the same interviewer (joe jackson). in that article, tori states: "And I was singing hymns, as I say in the song, because he told me to. For those of you who don't know, that's a good 8 hour drive from Chicago.) Anyway, I've become a huge fan of suspending my recorder below the waist line in my pants. Of course, I didn't see anyone get patted down at either show; I walked right in for both. The only thing the security people seemed at all interested in was whether you had a camera. I don't know if this was a factor or not, but for both shows I arrived while Rufus was on stage. I'd heard that security was more lax once the opening act started playing. That, combined with not wanting to leave work too early meant that I skipped out on Rufus for both shows (sorry Rufus). Good luck. (interestingly, everytime she's played the oakdale, the same thing has happened -- in 96, 98, 99 and 01.) there was one woman in the back of the center orchestra in boston who yelled a lot and at inappropriate times (in the middle of a song) but she has been an exception. so far. ;) >i feel like there's something about this tour that has just >compelled every audience she plays for to react in this completely different >way than they did for the last few tours. i'm pretty sure it's the lack of a band. with less groove happening and only one performer on stage who is relatively quiet, you can't really bounce around and make noise else you miss the point. when we last left our heroes, ToRiGLosS@aol.com exclaimed: >The change of attitude with this tour probably has to do with the sizes of >the venues.. yeah, that problably factors in here as well. here in new york, when you go to see a show at madison square garden (98) or jones beach (99), it's a completely different vibe from going to the beacon theater. like many of the places she played in 99, jones beach is an outdoor venue and has a party vibe. madison square garden doesn't have that exact thing, but it's a tin can arena and shows in that sort of place never really sound good or have a relaxed, pay-attention sort of thing happening. and, as you point out, those kinds of venues do attract a different kind of audience. then again, she's played the oakdale in connecticut every tour, so it's not a hard and fast rule either. woj - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2001 09:10:56 -0400 From: strange little woj Subject: Re: neil gaiman's commentaries when we last left our heroes, JNe9027355@aol.com exclaimed: >this guy is awesomely descriptive. I am sorry I have no references to give you. I always thought that song was very eerie and disturbing--although beautiful. I am surprised that you thought it was positive. That is very interesting. I never thought of it that way. "one with her hands open... don't be afraid, she said... no one will know it... just you and me..... and when it's over... i'll go back" sounds like it could be a secret love affair between two married women, or something. it also reminds me of the first (and only) time i had sex with a woman. which, at the time, was beautiful.... *jennifer* - ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2001 22:57:58 -0400 From: strange little woj Subject: Re: tori and a rape when we last left our heroes, VioletLilith@aol.com exclaimed: >and, i agree. if she says she was, okay. and i always thought that is what >she claimed. but, if it was just something where someone made her sing at >knifepoint...and she has admitted that....then THAT is NOT rape.....at least >not to me.... okay, i think this topic has pretty run its course. it comes up periodically and the result is usually the same: no resolution! whether or not tori was raped is something that we probably won't ever know for sure one way or another. either way, the important thing is that "me and a gun" was a breakthrough for tori and many other women (and maybe even men) to deal with sexual assault and trauma. so, unless someone posts something factual about the matter, this subject is closed. woj - ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #208 ************************************* ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 23:50:01 -0400 From: strange little woj Subject: tori amos off the record the toriamos.com newsring has been updated. it now has a link to "off the record", a 20 minute interview with tori. woj ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #210 *************************************
