For some unknown reason, people seem to want to trust people on the Internet in a situation that they wouldn't in real life. Now while that's wonderful for humanity in general, there's the problem that some people might not come up with the goods. My personal thought would be simple - if you wouldn't do it in "real life", then don't do it over the Internet. So if someone came up to you and offered you something that they couldn't prove they had for something of yours worth a considerable sum, and they wanted their item first, you'd walk away. My advice then, is simple, sell the promo you have on EBay, and then use that money to buy yourself some lovely Tori rarities from a reseller using your Credit Card where you've got purchase protection. That way you can't really lose. I'm a people watcher, human behavior is fascinating :-) Agree wholeheartedly. I found the people who frequently cite trolls are frequently people that lacks human interaction outside their narrow realms. I don't take these people seriously. Agreeing to disagree isn't a hard concept--i wish more would grasp it. And because someone disagrees with another, and becomes direct like i did with that individual's post, they shouldn't be attacked or offended for being accused of wrongdoing either...especially if the disagreement is about logic rather than opinion, which mine completely was. The point about using the CC for online payments is right on. The added protection a CC gives can make all the difference in the world. All of the wedding items we purchase online are bought with a CC for that exact reason. The majority of our Tori things as well. PayPal works perfectly for this. Agree totally Toodles ~ MysT *** In a message dated 6/7/01 2:20:44 AM Pacific Daylight Time, mikegray@btinternet.com writes: << Subj: Re: Subject: advice on trading Date: 6/7/01 2:20:44 AM Pacific Daylight Time From: mikegray@btinternet.com (Mike Gray) To: Mysterilady2001@cs.com, precious-things@smoe.org Hi Guys, I quite agree with MysT on this one. Seriously, my friends all tell me that I am obsessed with Tori Amos, which I deny. I am not obsessed with her person, I am obsessed with her music. :) Tori is very talented with interesting viewpoints that I often agree with, and her music reaches and touches me like no other music can. You know, I would love to meet her in person, not to have her autograph my arm or anything, but to seriously sit down and discuss philosophy and religion with her. To discuss feminism and men, to discuss faeries and mythology...all over a cup of tea or a glass of wine or something. I would also like to see her play the music I love so much in concert, as every chance I have had has gone wrong somehow. That's about as interested as I am with her person. But it's the music that I am obsessed with, and the feelings it lends to me. I do dye my hair red every once in a while, but that isn't even Tori-related. I happen to like "Vampire Red" hair. It doesn't really look too close to Tori's color at all. I have a poster of her playing the piano, and my computer is like a shrine (desktop pic, icons, screensaver, winamp skin, start-up and shut-down windows...all Tori), and I always get excited when I hear about her, and I listen to the music very often (I'm a rabid collector of the songs), all reasons why my friends think I am obsessed...But those are all the things I have in my life that are related to her. I don't even have a t-shirt. :) I have a few songbooks...that's it. She doesn't take up my whole life. I don't think she should take up anyone's hole life. I don't think it's healthy to put her or anyone up on a pedestal. I think her music is phenomenal, and that she might be an interesting person to meet and to know. But treating her like a goddess or anything, that's starting to just push it. She's a person, just like anyone on this list. We all have our talents or skills, hers just happen to make her well-known, and touches each of us in our own way. BTW- this reminds me. Adam Sandler, Winona Ryder, and Pete Gallagher are all in my hometown now filming the movie "Deeds" (a remake of "Mr Deeds Goes to Town"). You should see the crowds! They're all trying to get a glimpse of the people. I work two jobs right on the street where they are filming, so I've seen all the actors, and even met and spoke with Pete Gallagher. He was a really nice guy. Adam Sandler came into the coffee shop where I work, and did an interview with the radio station (i95) who were hanging around watching the filming. He was really funny, of course. The one I would like to meet is Winona, but she is staying away from the crowds. I don't blame her. They're ravenous. It's really sad. They all want to mob these poor actors, and really, I'm just having fun with watching how they make the film. It's really very interesting to watch, but I feel sorry for the actors. They can't walk out into the sidewalk without the cries of "Adam! Winona! Will you sign this ! pl! ! ease?!?!" Yeah, so that's my 2 cents and some change. I dont know if this has been posted on here before, but I am copying Keith's orignal post to Tobi-Boot List: <http://take3.dreamhost.com/tomb/ Or e-mail us with questions or comments: tomb@take3.dreamhost.com >> Any of you that have already used the TOMB know what a wonderful resource it is; however, here are some much need improvments that need to be made: Currently, the tomb is running on an old 60Mhz Pentium with just 2GB of hard drive space. This severely limits the amount of shows that we can serve to you. Do you have some older equipment you're going to upgrade? Have an extra hard drive you don't really need (that's 2GB or greater, of course). Have an extra ATX case lying around? Help us help you! Donate your old equipment to the T.O.M.B. Additionally, I will be in charge of all funraising efforts for the T.O.M.B. Im currently toying with the idea of having a donation system, where the donor receives a gift depending on how much they donate; for example, a person might recieve, a tori-related item, or one boot if they donate, say $15; I would like everyone's feedback on this, weather they think this a good idea, and if so, who would be interested in donating boots for this fundraiser; perhaps this would be a good way to get rid of some extras, provided they arent "fuck-ups". I know many of you make tori merchandise of sorts, ie, keychains, rosaries, soaps, labels etc. If anyone would be interested in donating these type of things, we could also use such items in addition to, or instead of, the boots when people donate $. Please let me know if you have anything to contribute. Im also looking into having auctions of donated tori collectibles. If anyone is interested in this idea, please email me as well, letting me know SPECIFICALLY what type of items you could contribute; if we have enough to make it worth the effort, I will let everyone know and go from there. I hope to be able to raise enough $ to make a difference for the tomb. If for some reason, we dont collect enough to do anything worthwhile, all the money will be donated to RAINN (unless anyone has any better ideas). And of course, dont forget, if you have any old equipment you could donate, that would be wonderful too!! You can also contribute by hosting a mirror site if you have the resources available. I definitely appreciate everyone's feedback! ~~Maria Wanna Trade?
