Thanks Renee :) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 6 May 2001 10:37:50 EDT From: Dracovixen@aol.com Subject: Re: Tori no piano In a message dated 5/6/01 1:31:29 AM Eastern Daylight Time, owner-precious-things-digest@smoe.org writes: << I think it would be interesting to see Tori sing without the piano (although her piano playing is probably the thing I like most about her). Can you imagine her dancing around like Alanis? I can't even begin to picture her standing up and singing. >> NO!!! No no no! I have never even seen her in concert, because every time I had the chance, something happened! I must see Tori and her piano, I want to see how she and the piano connect, and what about playing old songs? I highly doubt that she is going to play solely from her new album. I'm sorry, I'm being really avid about this, take no offense. And, there was piano in Y Kant Tori Read. I have to see Tori and piano! Here's why. Adrian Belew is playing the guitar material for the new record, but won't be able to tour with Tori because King Crimson's touring this summer (including some dates opening for Tool). Caton won't be playing with Tori either. So who would play guitar? That's just my thinking. Good thought. My guess is that it will be a solo tour, but you never know. It is quite strange, though, to try to imagine Tori standing up performing, just singing. I can't even picture it. It just doesn't look right. :-) The only place I've seen her performing is next to a piano and/or keyboard. It would seem odd otherwise, but more power to her, whatever she comes up with. Dent), it sounds amazing. I can't wait. matthew. I got my head, but my head is unravelling. can't keep control, can't keep track of where it's travelling. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 May 2001 14:35:32 -0400 From: Keith Shapiro (by way of /dev/woj ) Subject: [tori-boot] The T.O.M.B. The reason I thought of this was because of the obvious that you said in your post, and it was also because of her last 9 shows and other promotional performances were all done solo. I thought because she had not performed solo like that since 1994 that it suddenly evoked something deep within her again, her passion for performing very intimately and connecting with an audience using just her voice and piano. I hope to God that she does just drop the whole band, whoever they are now. I know that Caton's gone and even though I've never seen her live except on TV, I think it's time there was a change of some sort. I get a little tired sometimes of things always remaining the same with her. She had a great 15-year relationship with him musically and as a friend I suppose, but I think it's time she broadened her horizon a little more and played with some other musicians. I think she should get a little more guitar on her songs too. A lot of her songs are basically led by piano, bass, and drums and I hardly hear the guitar except for it screaming every now and then. I mean, that's what a lot of great musicians are admired for, great music. Not just personal music with a lot of wailing and off rhythm singing and playing. I like to hear at least some of her songs taking a form like that. Just because they are altered a little doesn't mean they have to lose the intimacy. But knowing her, now that she is producing and creating all of it, and the fact that she has never really been able to create any actual rock and roll songs, (when she tried back in '87, she failed miserably), I don't think that it will ever be a reality. So, I'll stop talking about it. You know what my dream performance would be for the very first show of her "Strange Little Girls" tour. Providing she doesn't do the new songs first, and I hope she doesn't, I would love for her to walk on stage, wave to the crowd, then sit down at the Bosey, and launch into a solo piano performance of Blood Roses. Then, follow that with a piano-only version of In the Springtime of His Voodoo. Then, I'd like a new arrangement for Etienne on the piano. Then, Marianne and maybe some new covers. There must be some new covers she's been doing. Then, she could do whatever she liked after that. Maybe some B-sides from the Venus era. By the way, does anybody know anything at all of the B-sides from TVAB. I know she said when first asked about them that she's holding onto them for now. ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #80 ************************************
