Nadyne said: > In the past, Tori has said that she -does- read all letters given to her > (or her crew) at her concerts. My understanding from talking to a lot of people who have conversed with her on this issue, and from hearing other things from here and there has left me with the impression that she does indeed read a tremendous number of notes, cards, and letters she's given before shows, as well as those given to security people to give to her. I want to add a couple caveats to this, though. As far back as 1996 I know she wasn't reading every single thing given to her, because she told a friend of mine that if she plans to read something absolutely and for certain, she would put it into a specific pocket as she took it from the person. Seemingly, the others she would read if she had time. On the 1999 tour the word was that her people were screening letters before giving them to her to read. I'm not sure how much of this was done with letters handed to her directly versus letters given to Joel or Steve to give to her. My understanding is that they were hoping to keep letters that might upset her for one reason or another from getting to her, but that she was still getting the lion's share of letters at the shows. The other thing I wanted to mention about this, is she clearly uses cards and letters she gets as inspiration for that given show the day she gets a note, and she even seems to meditate on them and get the energies from them, as well as specific song requests, as she can be seen to have cards open and set up and candles burning on her dresser in her dressing room. For some reason her people sent out a handful of photos from Indianapolis at the end of the '98 tour, but other than that and maybe three exceptions over the course of five years, I've never heard of her sending out replies, and she will tell you if asked that she doesn't *ever* reply. You get a reply from the stage in the energy of that concert, and from the song list of the show if multiple people asked for the same song in a note, etc. Or, if she knows your face from your having handed her the letter, your reply may come in a more personal form--big smiles from the stage if you're close enough for her to see you. :-) Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 16:42:25 EDT From: Mysterilady2001@cs.com Subject: Tori Trivia 7 ~ Hi ya EWF ~ Lets all jump for joy - MysT is *actually* on time this week! It's a boot of a show at the Phoenix which is in Toronto I think(I'm at work without the disc in front of me, sorry). The sound quality on my copy is great, but whoever burnt it to CD had some computer issues. Sometimes, my player fritzes out when I play it. It's a two disc set; disc two is fine. There is some live tracks from another show to round out the CD, but only the one show is complete. I believe it was recorded before Choirgirl was released, as the dates of the two shows are in early April 1998 (8 and 10 I think ,but again I don't have the discs with me). You can check the web but I got the discs in a going out of business sale at Almost Live in Belmar, NJ. I mourn the loss of this store, the source of good boots and reasonable prices. Because of the sale, I got this boot for $10! The versions of B-D, Horses, Doughnut, and TiYH are amazing. BTW the track listing (as I remember it) is: Disc 1 Black-Dove iieee Precious Things Liquid Diamonds Doughnut Song Jackie's Strength Spark Mother Baker Baker Northern Lad Horses Cruel (computer problems prevent listening to this track) Disc 2 The Waitress God Cooling Tear in Your Hand Black-Dove (this track and the next three are from another show) iieee Precious Things Spark Spark (from Jay Leno) Merman (studio version, really bad quality) If you find it on the web and it's a good quality boot without the computer glitch, I'd be interested in knowing the source so I can get a perfect copy.
