Many of your questions about this sort of thing can be answered by picking up (or flipping through) the book _Tori Amos Collectibles_. You can pick it up new for about thirty bucks, and used copies often go on eBay for less. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 18:57:46 EDT From: Dracovixen@aol.com Subject: Re: fan mixes In a message dated 4/4/01 1:35:42 AM Eastern Daylight Time, owner-precious-things-digest@smoe.org writes: > like, Prec.Thing's 7th grade mix, LE's aftershock mix, Bliss' naked mix, > Carnival's bourbon chicken mix OR bourbon st. mix, iiee's lipgloss arsonist > mix, lovesong's aching heart mix, lite sneeze's wintermute mix, and then > there's alot of mixes by Matt--who's that? > i.e Daisydead petals-matt's racous mix, here in my head--there'n'Matt's mix, > > cruel--matt's two step mix. These are real people. They are fans of Tori, and enjoy remixing her music. One guy is John B. He did the 7th grade mix, and such. This is his website: http://remix.inmyhead.net/ Check out the chaos mix of Butterfly. That's my favorite. There are -lots- of fan remixes of Tori's songs. A fan just gets ahold of a Tori song and remixes it to their heart's content, then makes an MP3 of it and it gets into circulation on Napster and elsewhere. Last year, someone ran a tree of a 2-CD set of fan remixes of Tori tracks. If you're interested of getting a copy of that, I'm sure that there's a lot of people either here or on the Tori-boot mailing list who have a copy and could help you get one. /nm ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Apr 2001 22:44:55 -0700 From: Beth Winegarner Subject: Re: "Persian Love Song" Tom wrote: > I'd like to correct this correction. So, I would say that makes it both her solo song and a > DCD song. Kinda like when Fleetwood Mac performs Stevie Nicks solo songs, > they sort of belong to both the band and her. The song known as "Persian Love Song" was arranged (but not written) by Lisa Gerrard. The recording of DCD called "Toward the Within" comes from the Toward the Within tour and featured songs co-written by Lisa and Brendan Perry, as Dead Can Dance, as well as solo material from both parties and at least one other member of the touring group (the flute solo). One of those solo songs was "Persian Love Song" - another was "Sanvean," which also appeared on The Mirror Pool. TMP was released before DCD officially split up; Lisa's second album, "Duality," (and her work on the soundtracks for Gladiator, MI:2 and The Insider) were released after the split. Pieter Bourke, who was in the touring group for the Toward the Within tour, collaborated with Lisa on "Duality." Hence the name of the album. I was thinking... actually... to keep everyone on their collective toes I'm going to post the answer 24 hours later every week. To add to the fun I'm also going to give credit to the person or people who answered correctly. I might also work out a prize system... or... I might not. What was the channel? Good luck Toodles ~ MysT *** >> ANSWER ~ MTV On March 26th, 1992 MTV first aired the Tori Amos: MTV Special. Three weeks earlier in the month, on March 4th, Tori had completed her *live* part - an interview with MTV's Mini-Me version of Kurt Loder ~ John Norris & performance's of Me & A Gun, Precious Things and Crucify - which were then put together with video clips of Silent All These Years, Winter & China to create the hour long special. While Atlantic did not have any one specific person or act in mind when they bid on the auction for the hour of MTV air time, they did believe so highly in Tori & LE to grant the time to her. Oddly I got no where with Atlantic or MTV when I inquired about the winning bid amount. - Kidding - Like they'd talk to me! (Yes, I actually did call - never leave a stone unturned is my motto :-) Since it's been several years since this special has been rebroadcast I say we join forces and BEG them to air it again. Couldn't hurt right?!? (I personally don't mind a good begging session *IF* it gets me what I want :-) Congratulations to christa - (Thorpie679@aol.com) - for her purrrfect answer :-) Way To Go Toodles ~ MysT *I'd like to say Hi to my friend Alessio who just joined PT :-) *** ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 4 Apr 2001 06:50:04 -0400 (EDT) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: Tori Trivia 3 ~ ANSWER Mysterilady2001 said: > Answer: In 1983 Tori - known then as Ellen - spent the majority of her > nights in a bar. Georgetown is in Northwest Washington, D.C.--despite what it says in chapter one of the official bio about it being a "suburb" of D.C., it is not. (Neither was Tori 10 when her Poppa Copeland died in January, 1973, and the Trail of Tears was considered to be in 1838, not 1836 [although it actually began at the tail end of 1837 and didn't end until 1839]. And that's just the first chapter! Didn't they have a chance to *vet* it? Ooh, don't get me started!) > She played almost continuously from 7pm through Midnight, taking short > breaks & many requests from the patrons who largely came to hear her > play. And as far as I know, there was nothing illegal about simply *being* in a bar if one was under 18. On the other hand, a friend of mine and I used to go to Mr. Smith's in 1973 when we were like 17 and 16 and we had no trouble being served. Of course, we'd order bleu cheese burgers and chase them with Courvoisier. Maybe if we'd sat at the bar and just ordered Buds they would have refused us. We hung out a lot in Georgetown back then and I don't recall ever not being served. Same for the restaurant in the Watergate. Not a problem. Anyway, things are not always as they appear.
