What's your take? BTW~ the TITALiSQ: The Interactive Tori Amos LyrIcs Solving Quest, from what ive browsed of it, doesn't feature interpretations of b-sides or any other music other than the album work......kinda disappointing... - -AJ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Mar 2001 13:43:18 From: "Lauren DePhillips" Subject: favorite line I know that there was a thread a little while back about people's favorite lines, so I thought I would throw my proverbial two cents in. 'Put on your raincoat again, cause even the sun's got a price on it.' 'Just when you escape you have yourself to fear.' Also I want to ask if anyone knows of a site that has a fairly comprehensive list of live lyrics - for improvs, the extended versions, and so on. This just occured to me because I was listening to TVAB.still orbiting and realized that I have no idea what she is saying at the end of Cruel. "mass. so big. it can swallow swallow her whole star intact" "tide is on your side" (reference to the moon controlling the tides) "you'll talk yourself right into a job out of a hole" "anybody knows you can conjure anything by the dark of the moon" "my absorbtion lines. they are frayed" hope that helped peace christina ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 03:12:31 EST From: JNe9027355@aol.com Subject: how many ACTIVE tori sites are alive on the web? Oh, if only some of the top shows had been videotaped, absolutely. Looking past some of the "details" surrounding the Concert for RAINN--such as it having been 10 1/2 weeks after the end of the Dew Drop Inn Tour, and ignoring for the moment the fact that she'd suffered a miscarriage, to the day, one month previous--there's something about having all the cameras and TV lights that will always give a videotaped concert a different, more muted sensibility. It really does prey on her mind that a videotaped show is going to live for a long time and much more vividly in the minds of many more people than random show number 47 of a tour in some medium-size city. They'll always be less spontaneous shows and more calculated. She's gotten over a lot of the kind of nervousness she used to have about television tapings, but she still has plenty leftover. So, inherently, the TV concerts such as the Concert for RAINN and the Sessions can't show what it's really like out there on the road. (I won't even get into the Pay- Per-View fiasco with the technical problems and her giving the finger!) I see the the TV concerts more as recreations of concerts than actual concerts themselves--in terms of overall feel and emotion, anyway. There's simply too much self-consciousness. You know, I've never seen her REALLY nail one here in the D.C. area. The third of three Constitution Hall shows in 1996 on April 28 was an astonishing show for multiple reasons, not the least of which being it was two hours and two minutes long and she came back to do a third encore of Etienne on the piano--the first live Etienne ever, and I believe the only time she ever did it on piano in '96. But it's frustrating to me that I would get some friends of mine who aren't all that into Tori to attend a show and she doesn't nail it to the wall as I've seen her do now and then in other cities. If she could ever capture one of those kinds of concerts on videotape that would change the perceptions of her that a lot of people have--even of folks who've seen a handful or more shows. When she hits one out of the park it is way gone, and everyone there remembers they witnessed something special. If there were videotapes of the August 21, 1996 Charlotte show (the most amazing show I ever saw on purely a pianistic level), the first show of three (over two days) in Seattle on July 16, 1996, or especially the double night of shows in Portland, Oregon a few days later on the 21st, that would really turn some heads. I heard a mediocre sound cassette of the of those Portland shows about a year ago and it was just insane. She was going off like I don't even remember, doing some things that even while listening to it I kept having fleeting thoughts that someone had monkeyed around with the tape--it was so nutty that it didn't seem real. As for the Concert for RAINN, it wasn't unaltered. There were between-song comments she made that were edited out. I'm sure "they" thought that made it flow better. I disagree. I say, let the show stand by itself in its entirety. But as evinced by the live Venus disc, she doesn't feel the same way. She thought picking the "best" live versions of songs and sticking them together was the thing to do for a live record. I'd have voted for picking one amazing show and releasing it warts and all to preserve the feel. Hey--it's her legacy not mine. She can do whatever she wants to do, and will. The south's planatations and general nature coloring could be compared to volcano colors, i.e browns, yellows, fire. Tori made a good marriage of these 2 here. - -AJ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 5 Mar 2001 02:11:40 -0800 From: "Megasus" Subject: Making a tree - Anybody have 'End Sessions' Seattle from DAT recording? Hello everybody! :) First of all I want to apologize for the crosspost. I read a FAQ that says it's not good netiquitte to do so, but I wasn't sure how that was handled in the case of spreading the word about a tree.. so I hope it's okay. :) Feel free to email me privately if there's a problem with it. Anywhoo.. I'm starting a tree for "End Sessions", which is a small show Tori did in Seattle, 1998 after her concert, at the radio station KNDD. (www.1077theend.com) I've had some questions and concerns about making sure this show is of the best quality before I mass distribute it, so I'm currently looking for the person who is rumored to have this show on DAT, and digitally transferred it to CD. I'd like to compare the quality with my own (recorded onto cassette from the radio, and transferred to CD) If you are this person, or know this person, please contact me ASAP. I hope it's possible to set up a deal to either work together on this, or just get a copy so that I can decide which to use in the tree. With that out of the way, anybody who interested in joining this tree may do so here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/EndSessionsTree I've set up branch/leaf sections in the database. Some people have had a bit of trouble with them, but I think the bugs are being fixed. Once you sign up, just click on "database" and choose either branch of leaf. Then you add your email addy and location to the fields there, and you should appear. :) Currently there are 38 members and we have more branches than leaves, so we're on track for making things run smoothly. The main speed bump is making sure we have the *best* possible copy of the show. I think my copy is good, A quality even.. but if a DAT copy exists it could possibly be better. I'm thinking that I should end subscriptions around Friday the 16th. I'm leaving town on March 24th.. so I may have to pass the organizer duties on to somebody else, mailing my copies to somebody who would take over, or just leave subscriptions open until I get back around April 14th. That's entirely up to the other branches involved, and when/if I get a better copy of the show. This is my first time leading a tree, so as I've said before, any hints, ideas or helpful comments are welcome. I appreciate everybody who has offered to help so far, and I think this will all go wonderfully. :) One last thing is the subject of filler. The show itself is only about 26 minutes. The setlist is as follows: Sister Janet Leather Purple People Playboy Mommy Honey Each song having a short story before it. The CD I had made of the show was filled with a nice mix of live/covers/bsides which I can put on the CD, but if there's something else to throw in as filler I'd be happy to take suggestions. I don't have that many boots myself, so if you know of other short shows which would go good on this CD, drop me a line. Anyway, I'm going to cut this off for now before it becomes too long. I look forward to seeing more people joining the tree, and hopefully we'll get the other show to compare and get the ball rolling. Take care everybody!! :) ~~Megasus~ ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V6 #41 ************************************
