I have an issue and I'm itching to do something drastic about it. I need opinions - FAST! There's a Baltimore on eBay currently. Both Jim & I thought it odd the seller listed it as a private auction. (Those are usually used for things like adult toys, naughty lingerie, etc., - Things you'd like to buy that are of a personal nature.) Anyway, the purpose is to protect the bidders from 3rd parties finding out what they are bidding on. It also leaves a great deal of room for the seller to do some not-so-nice stuff - like bid on his own auction to raise bids - aka: shill bidding. After all, no one would know. The seller has excellent feedback so that kinda makes me seesaw about it. If the seller was a newbie then I'd really worry but as those of us who have used eBay know - even if someone has been on eBay awhile it doesn't make him an honest person. I don't know him so I don't know if he is or not. I just find the whole thing odd. It reeks of shill bidding to me. I'm not going to give the auction number out here but please go to eBay yourself & look -(search: Tori Amos Baltimore). I really want opinions. If you think I'm wrong tell me so. If you think I may be right tell me that too. I could be wrong but why would he use this type of auction for a 45 record? If you personally know this person please just tell me It's OK MysT, he/she's Cool. Just FYI here's some eBay Baltimore facts: I've calculated the average price a Baltimore has sold for on eBay in the last 6 mos - $637.58. Average number of bids: 21. The Baltimore on eBay now has 52 bids and is up to $1,425.00. I mean, HELLO - Isn't that even MORE than the signed Baltimore to benefit RAINN sold for on Yahoo last year? Something's wrong here folks - I can just feel it. If you ask why I care, well, I care for my fellow EWF. I also care that our eBay Tori community be a safe, no scam place for people to get their Tori goods. I do understand people have been scammed on eBay before, but to this possible magnitude? At the time of this writing there is 1 day 7 hours left in the auction. Please send opinions ASAP to MysTeRiLady2001@cs.com Thanks & Toodles ~ MysT *BTW: I'm not in the bidding - I already own a Baltimore. *** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 10:24:38 -0500 From: recount chocula Subject: Re: can everyone give me an opinion?! when we last left our heroes, ToriLiscious@cs.com exclaimed: >Does anyone know the facts behind this line? >from 'Hotel', >"King Solomon's Mines, exit 75, I'm stil alive", etc... during the 1996/10/6 show in binghamton, tori described the hotel deville as one of the worst she's every stayed at and that she was writing a song the evening before and that, if it made it on to the next album, she'd mention the hotel. based on that, i've a small theory about that line: "king solomon's mines" is the title of a classic adventure novel written by h. rider haggard. exit 75 is the exit number for the interchange between interstate 81 and new york state route 17 east of binghamton. so, that line translates to me as tori saying, as she heads out of town town, that she's survived the adventure of the bad hotel. of course, your mileage may vary and check your local listings. ;) woj ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 14:22:52 EST From: ToriLiscious@cs.com Subject: Re: can everyone give me an opinion?! Dear Toriphiles, Talula514@aol.com writes: << OH and probably my FAVORITE line, "No one cared, no one dared to tell me where all the pretty girls are those demigods, with their NINE INCH nails and little fascist panties tucked inside the heart of every nice girl" I LOVE on Venus Live with she really belts it out :) >> i forgot that line. i love it live!!! I'm like screaming "YEAH!" and flipping off imaginary popular bitches when I heard it the first time ! you know what i also love, more live than not, but either way it's neat.. in little earthquakes, tori puts a bit of sarcasm in the volume of her music.. This is on TVAB live, about 4:20 into the song... <> The iiieeeeee (repeated) and eeeeeeeeeeee (arpeggio-ing from note to note) is so loud, to me meaning, (her aner and frustration) jesus, look how traumatic all this shit we're going through is, and then the sarcasm of the tiny voice saying (don't worry I won't lead on about our problems) oh, these little earthquakes, like, they're really no big deal. Tori is so fucking smart. I love her. Love, Micah B. Oh, and Dear Talula, I love your interpretation of the whole pope and robe thingy. i agree. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 14:39:32 EST From: ToriLiscious@cs.com Subject: Caught a Lite Sneeze I heard on a readio interview (please dont' ask me when or where because I don't know), that the interview lady asked about Tori's relationship with Trent Reznor (this is when Pele first came out and she was promoting), and she kept dodging the questions, and then the woman who was interviewing (who seemed she knew a whole lot more about tori then anyone I've ever heard interview her on the radio) asked her about Caught a Lite Sneeze, and who it was about. She asked if it was about Trent, and she kept dodging that, too, and while listening to it, I was thinking the song was about trent, just because of the elusiveness of some *choice* questions. The lady asked what the title of the song was about, and Tori said, You know how sometimes you'll get the flu, and it'll just take you over, and you have no control over your feelings in the matter? Well, this song is about just coming down with a light sneeze. Big deal. So, I don't think it could have been about Eric. he was a big deal to her, i don't think she would have given a title like that to a song about someone who meant so much. and if boys for pele was about all the boys in her life (pele the volcano god who turned her former man- who she still loved- into a plant at the top of the volcano and turned his current woman- who she was jealous of- into a plant at the bottom of the volcano so they could never be together again) what's up with Marianne? just some change in the bucket, micah p.s. i'm listening to purple people and just came across the line, breakfast at every hour. yummy! i love the song; she says, do you do judo when they surround you- i'm a brown belt in judo and that line makes me smile. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Feb 2001 12:43:16 -0600 From: "Shannon Busack" Subject: Re: deciphering more lyrics. I love these discussions on the meanings of songs and lyrics. Unfortunately, I don't have the time to give my interpretations right now. I was curious, however, with this discussion on CALS, Tori has mentioned that some guys are like a cold, while others are just a lite sneeze or something to that effect. I can't remember exactly what she says, it's been a while since I have read any of the articles on her discussing BFP. I was curious as to how you all thought that fit into the song. Also, I don't remember if Tori mentioned this or if this was just an association I made on my own, but, physiologically, a sneeze is supposed to have the same affect on your body as an orgasm. Hopefully, somebody will know more exact quotes on these, but let me know what you think.
