Does anyone have an "A" quality MP3 of that? Or a CD I could trade for with that live track on it? Thanks, jen ===== "I don't want to be killed! You're just an empty cage girl, if you kill the bird..." I think the line right before the bird line is very important in discovering the meaning. A "cat", I think like an old slang term, when someone was cool, they were "one cool cat". Someone high up there, someone she admires, someone associated with Easter...like Jesus? I always saw it as another one of her conversations with Jesus, this time about how if she denied or destroyed her soul or spirituality, she's just be an empty shell, a husk. Empty cages have nothing special inside of them; there's no interest in an empty cage. But a cage with a bird inside? That's what fascinates people, and it livens up the cage. This coud go into social relations, too. Like a bird will keep the interest of people, whether through song, pretty feathers, whatever. If she wants people to find her interesting, she can't go killing the bird. An empty cage is lonely. It holds no joy inside, not only for other people, but for themselves. Ok, here goes: "...i gotta have my suffering so that i can have my cross i know a cat named easter he says will you ever learn you're just an empty cage girl if you kill the bird i've been looking for a savior..." Christian symbology galore - my "literal" interpretation of this is that she was/is very much into shedding a lot of the lies and myths surrounding Christianity that her parents and grandmother tried to impart on her. Perhaps she is almost being sarcastic/cynical that what a bunch of bullshit it is when someone says your soul won't be saved if you don't believe in God's only son suffering for your sins. She's sorta calling their bluff on that argument, knowing full well her bird will be alive and well whether she embraces Christianity or not.
