"bootleg" is one of those words that automatically get picked up by ebay's system....at least it was this way a while back when I auctioned off an "import". I called it a boot first, and they ended the auction, I redid it, calling it a import, and all was well. The original BfP isn't that difficult to find, given that there were more than 800,000 pressed in the US alone. Try your friendly local used music store. You -must- listen to BfP to tell whether or not you're getting the original Talula. DO NOT believe the packaging! When BfP was re-released with the Tornado mix, Atlantic still used the old packaging for some period of time. There is a huge number of BfP CDs out there that say that you're getting the original Talula, but you end up with the Tornado remix. Most used music stores allow you to listen before you buy, so you should be safe. :) Please note that BfP has not (IIRC) been re-pressed on vinyl yet, so if you get the record version of BfP, you'll get the original. I'm not sure whether or not the tape has been re-pressed yet (although that seems more likely). /nad ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 26 Nov 1999 19:46:35 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: auctioning tori cds.....ebay being BAD! Glancing through the Yahoo! auctions, CD-R copies of bootlegs are going for $20-$30, which isn't terribly better than what you'd pay at a record store. There are several ways to get CD boots if you're interested. CD-R trees are becoming more and more common. There's currently one running for Tori's solo show in London from this year. Keith and I will be doing one for Tori's last show of the US tour, likely after the New Year. Many people on the Tori-boot mailing list will do "newbie trades". There are a few options for newbie trades, including: 1) Blanks and postage (referred to as "B&P"): you send blank media (tapes, CD-Rs, videos) and a self-addressed stamped padded mailer. They copy the boot for you and send it back. Total cost: however much it cost you to buy the blanks, one mailer, and postage both ways. 2) 2:1: you send two of the blank media for every one you get back. For example, if you wanted 2 CDs from a trader, you'd send them four blank CDs; the extra CDs reimburse the trader for mailing them back to you. 3) A flat fee. I personally charge $8 per CD, with 100% of the profits to RAINN. Some folks charge a bit less, with no donation to RAINN. One extra-special warning: please watch out for the traders Carrie-Ellen Batchelder ("Gary's Girl" on the Dent forums) and MikeCTW ("palacecooling" on Yahoo! auctions). Both of them have been removed from the Tori-boot mailing list for ripping people off. MikeCTW tells us that he sells bootlegs to pay his rent. Carrie-Ellen produces CD recordings of extremely bad quality. If anyone is interested in getting CD boots from me, check out my complete list at: http://www.mindspring.com/~mielke/Nadyne/ But folks, please don't buy from an online auction website. These people are out to pad their own pockets. They're stealing from Tori. I have an extensive list of Tori items available, as well as a few other artists. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 15:48:32 EST From: Ava85867@aol.com Subject: Precious Things getting air time a few of the live songs from tvab have been sent to the radio stations, edited versions of course. my high school radio station has a promo copy with edited versions of precious things, cornflake girl, and a couple others i can't think of right now. i'm not sure if the big commercail stations got them yet too, but they probably have. so yes, they should get SOME air- time, although we all know it will most likely be limited. half the stuff we recieve at the station, no one ever plays, it's kinda a shame. :( ~~* Serve yourself *~ Siren* ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 13:10:19 -0800 From: "Megasus" Subject: Re: Boys For Pele with original Talula version > I got the original version of "Talula" at Media Play. I also saw a B4P with "Professional Widow: The Armand Star > Trunk..." ya know what I am talking about, on it. I've seen the original one for sale in some of my local music shops, as well as the store I work at in my department. :) It has the original Talula.. if somebody's having trouble finding this, I wouldn't have a problem picking one up for you if you send me the money for it. Also, I know many people have some objections to certain stuff on ebay, but I've seen BFP on ebay for just a few dollars. In fact, I think that's where I got mine for about $5 or so. So it wouldn't hurt to check. Every CD I've gotten from ebay has been in perfect condition. :) But the other offer is open.. so if anybody can't find one, let me know.. that's the only version I've seen in stores here. :) - -Meg ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 13:37:11 -0800 From: "bachelorette" Subject: Re: Boys For Pele with original Talula version ----- Original Message ----- > At 01:48 AM 11/26/99 -0500, Boy4Pele79@aol.com wrote: > > >Does anyone know if you can still find the original Boys For Pele CD with the > >original version of Talula on it? I also saw a B4P with "Professional Widow: The Armand Star >Trunk..." ya know what I am talking about, on it. How many different CDs are >there? It is my fave! Sorry if I was no help. To quote from the Tori FAQ (available online at , and in the midst of being updated): (Q) How many different versions of this album are there? (A) The different versions of the album are as follows: 1) The first one with the "regular" Talula. 800,000 of these were printed. 2) The second one, with the Tornado mix replacing the plain Talula. Some of these are hard to distinguish from (1) 'cause the CD changed, but the liner did not. Subsequent pressings of this have reprinted the liners as well. 3) Some record club versions of the disc were released where the liner notes said Talula was the remix, but the disc had the original. 4) EastWest released a version of BfP which replaces PW with the "Armand's Star Trunk Funkin'" remix and also removes ItSoHV. 5) The Japanese pressing of BfP adds Toodles Mr. Jim to the end of the album. [Note that this is slightly edited. The folks who compiled the FAQ quoted me for this question on the FAQ. I submitted an update, which is what I quoted above. The FAQ is missing the third item.] /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 Nov 1999 20:11:30 EST From: Spiritcc33@aol.com Subject: Re: Precious Things getting air time Today on Star 98.7----> L.a.
