Hi Lisa! :) I can not recall ever reading an interview where Tori directly insults Courtney Love. Many interviews would mention Professional Widow to her and ask if it was a reference to Courtney, and Tori would usually say it was about herself or about a general kind of person, but sometimes the denials were not all that strong. For instance in an interview the May 1998 Q Magazine: - ---------- In the version of Professional Widow that appeared on Amos's third solo album - as opposed to Armand Van Helden's remix - Amos appeared to be attacking another of her key contemporaries, Courtney Love. Since then, the singer had fiercely denied that Love was her target in the song. Lines like "Don't blow your brains yet / We gotta be big boy" are fairly unequivocal, though. "Let's put it this way," she hedges daintily, "Courtney and I have never spoken. We've never spoken about it and we've never spoken and I think it's best kept that way. We have mutual friends. I don't want to put them in a bad position." - ----------- It is Trent Reznor who has said the strongest comments concerning Courtney and Tori. In an interview with Trent in the February 1996 issue of Spin, he was talking about musicians he considers to be friends. He says: - ----------- "Tori would be another example. She called me to do this vocal track. It wasn't that big a deal. Her first album was permanently in my car's CD changer. It really struck me as well written, in a similar vein to what I was doing-from a different point of view, but the same kind of addicting, pouring out, gushing, baring, naked kind of song. Other people put their fingers in the pie, and they kind of messed up a friendship. We're not that close now. Some malicious meddling on the part of Courtney Love. But I still feel the same feelings for Tori." - -------------- Of course we now know how SPin can sometimes twist an artists words, so I would not take that as a perfect quote, but I bet it was pretty close. So it was really Trent and not Tori who has said the strongest words about Courtney. If anyone else knows of an interview where Tori says something directly, let us know, but I could not find one. Okay, sorry, had to get that out of my system. But, seriously, his whole *thing* is that he's a dork, and people loved it. I don't think that Tori minded his questions at all. In some interviews you can tell that she's nervous, but in this one she seemed totally mellow, even though she didn't talk much. And when she dumped the water on the floor... it was just so fantastic! Okay, on a totally off topic note, go see Sleepy Hollow! It's so great! It's not that true to Washington Irving, but it is really good! I loved it, it was very beautiful, especially the dream sequences. Tori would have been a very nice addition to the soundtrack... I could hear her doing something kinda like "Finn" (from the Great Expectations soundtrack) on it. But still, even without Tori, it was such a good movie! Lov ya'll! Mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Nov 1999 04:44:23 -0500 (EST) From: Jennifer Lynn Roth Subject: Re: "dammit, someone died in the house" :) The story of "Charles Manson's" murders is pretty intricate. Actually, it was somewhere between 4 and 5 members of the Family that executed the killings. Manson wasn't even there. The Family was a large group consisting mainly of young people (runaways and such) who lived in a commune orchestrated and run by Charles Manson. There was plenty of durg consumption, orgies, and many many children born of Manson. He taught them that the establishment was going down in a race war where the black man would kill the white man and then come to Manson and his followers (hiding in an underground bunker) to govern the new society. These murders, instigated by the timely release of The Beatles' White Album which Manson thought was telling him it was time to begin the wars, were supposed to be a message to the black armies. Charles Manson didn't physically execute any of the murders blamed on the family, but he was the brainwasher behind it all. He is, however, suspected of some murders earlier in the decade. If you want more information, read Helter Skelter by the prosecutor of the infamous case Vincent Bugliosi. The type of CD that you have is a "deux titres" which retail for around 32 FF normally which is 'bout £3.50 (I have no idea what that is in dollars for those of you who actually care - sorry!). The reason you've never seen this single before is because French music shops are immensely crap and tend to only stock "les actualités" i.e."chart music". I went into Fnac (big music shop, kinda like HMV but....crap) and they didn't even have BFP or FTCGH! I'm going to be living in France for the next two years (I think), so I'd really REALLY appreciate it if people would inform me of any Tori-related TV performances/releases in Britain so I can get them. I also got the 2 "glory of the 80's" singles and they were the right way round as well... I think they were from HMV....very strange! Oh, incidentally I posted a question some time ago and no-one has replied....so I'll repeat it: Has Tori ever studied or expressed interest in Science? ('cause some of her lyrics make references to Sciencey stuff). Cheers Try infrared Countess Jim (AKA Laura) ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
