I'd love to hear it. Love to. I think, Tripp Gwynn, that you had a lovely idea. A tree would be awesome!! I have a cd burner now, too. So I can participate, if we want a cd tree! I don't remember exactly how these work... If I'm correct, we have one person who makes copies and gives them to branches, each of whom gives the main person (the "trunk") two blank tapes/cd's. And then each branch makes copies for a few leaves. Each leaf gives their branch two blanks, right? Is that how it works? I'm excited. This would be neat. Woo-hoo! Well watched Tori on "later With Jools Holland" last night, she wasn't on very much, not enough, they seemed to have an obsession with playing those weirdos 'Madness' all night. Of course I nearly had an orgasm when she started singing/playing because it is very rare that I get to see her on the telly...if I ever got to a concert now that would be worrying. Anyway she looked as lovely as ever with rather shorter corky screwier hair (she might have had this for ages, what would I know?) anyhow she sang 'Suede' and 'Concertina', pianoy type versions, they had some nice facial close-ups on Concertina where she looked all happy and teary eyed. Unfortunately, you couldn't see much of her because she was wrapped head to toe in a black shawl and dress....must have been a bit chilly in the studio. Squidgy ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 31 Oct 1999 15:20:40 -0600 From: Sara Bauer Subject: I believe in that girl. My darlings, Forgive me if this has already been discussed at any length, or even mentioned. But I haven't seen it anywhere, so I'm going to dive right in. This afternoon, while I was preparing to vacuum (you know, picking things up off the floor), I was listening to Venus. Live. Still Orbiting. The Waitress was on, so I figured I'd wait till the album was over before firing up our vacuum cleaner (an ancient behemoth held together with duct tape that would have drowned out Tori. And I didn't feel like pausing.). So I lay down on my floor, letting the song sort of wash over me. "Hang ten, hang ten honey, I'm gonna go where she goes." I always thought this just meant Tori was following the girl. Maybe to watch her and observe her despicable qualities, or just to stick by her. I thought maybe this was where Tori turned around a little bit, thinking, "She's not as bad as all that..." and then at the end decides that she's the devil, bitch. But today I had an epiphany. Tori could be talking about Hell! "I'm gonna go where she goes." She's saying that her hatred for this girl (and maybe her murdering of this girl, if she ever gets that far) is going to send her to Hell. She's bad for hating the waitress so much. But the waitress is going to Hell, too, for being so... well, whatever it is she is that makes Tori hate her. For most of this part, Tori sings, "And I know just where she is," however, at one point she says, "Cause I know just where she's going." (I think... it's been a few minutes, I went ahead and vacuumed.) (Hehe.) What do you guys think? It certainly opens up the song for me a bit more. Of course, I could be completely wrong. Share your thoughts on this. And if anyone's figured out every word she sings at the end of this version, that could help. I have trouble telling with something/someday and goodness/darkness. Whether anyone else has said this before is a moot point to me right now, because I had a Tori epiphany. Don't you guys (and girls) love those? I'm so proud and excited. This has been my second epiphany of the weekend, my first being when I decided to stop shaving my legs altogether. Woo-hoo! Yay for sudden bursts of genius! I know people take wrestling as a joke and I was VERY shocked that he mentioned Tori in his book for that reason. Please let me give a brief background before I get to the Tori reference. For those of you who have never heard of Cactus Jack, he's wrestled hardcore style wrestling matches in Japan. It's pretty barbaric. It usually consists of a ring with barbed wire as ropes, bats wrapped with barbed wire, thumb tacks, beds of nails, and the end result is lots of blood. Ok I know where you are going with this but I'll get to the point shortly. This particular day back in the summer of 1995 I quote from Mick Foley: "As the (barbed) wire went up, I listened to a song called "Winter" by Tori Amos, which is in my mind, the most beautiful thing I've ever heard... As the song played, I became more and more intense. As the beautiful images in her song peaked, so did the ability to see brutal images in my mind. I was practically flying on adrenaline, a claim I can't make for many future matches with audiences one hundred times as large." It's hard to believe that even a "wrestler" is touched by the music of Tori Amos. I guess Tori has a place for everyone :-) I don't quite understand the "brutal images" part, but I think it's one of those things that actually means something good, instead of something bad. That song pretty much hyped him with so much adrenaline that he could not match today. Today he wrestles in front of 15,000+, and has tamed his wrestling style down. Pretty amazing how he can say that about Winter. thanks Gabriel ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #328 *************************************
