You can either vote online or by ballot in the latest issue (w/Brad Pitt on the cover). There are several categories you can nominate Tori for, even one for best fan site (the Dent!). you have to put your email address on the online poll, but you can win a trip somewhere. If you're totally against giving them your address, make something up and vote for Tori anyway! Hope all is well with everyone. :) here's the address: http://rollingstone.tunes.com/vote/default.asp take care, cindy ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Oct 1999 09:49:38 -0500 From: "Bailey, Doug S" Subject: One way to evaulate TVAB is to simply compare Venus Orbiting to Still Orbiting. Doug, still missing the girl and her piano ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 12 Oct 1999 12:55:53 GMT From: "Wake UpNeo" Subject: hanging out w/the dream king...ahead of time ;o) Hi Tom; You asked: " I was under the impression that TiYH and most of the other songs on LE were written before she knew Neil. " This is what I've read also. That Tori wrote and recorded these songs, and gave a tape of it to a friend to take to Neil Gaiman at a comics convention. Neil was duly impressed and phoned Tori. Told her she should have a contract or something (not to make him sound too much like a 1950s B movie talent agent hee) ("kid yer gonna go far !") Silliness aside (sorry), Tori told him that she had a contract and the record would be out in (forget the date). So in short, yes it was written before she actually had met Neil. I interp that line to mean somthing more esoteric tho; that she'd actually be in dreamland with the Dream King. She has powers the guy in the song doesn't know about or understand (metaphorically; but maybe literally too who knows ;o) ). I've always thought it very cool btw, and indicative of Tori's wonderful confidence in herself and her talent, that when she wrote it she didn't know Neil but somehow knew that she would ! Y'know ? Since if I did something like that I, as I'd be reminded by family and friends no doubt (very linear people), would be fishing in slightly psychotic waters. ;o) But with Tori somehow it works. It seems totally natural that she wrote something as if someone was already a friend, who in linear timespace, she actually hadn't met yet. ;o) So I always smile when I hear that line ! I think it's possible Tori is using herself as the "messenger". I personally have no doubt she's carried messages to me. :-) She's always been willing to look at all sides of an issue....say Christianity or the way women have been treated historically....and really *see* what's there - and often tries to portray that message in her lyrics. But some people just can't or won't see. When the one girl is fighting with her boyfriend...she sees Tori. And she really seems to want to explore what she sees. But she allows herself to be drawn away by her boyfriend - the masculine influence in her life. The little girl has no trouble seeing her. The two Oriental people see her well and are seemingly overjoyed. And when the nuns come by...one of them wants to look, but is shooed on her way by another nun. I did sense a bit of this too; but for the sake of space (as I also sent it out to news-only lists) I kept it to my main interp. Besides, I couldn't have said it so eloquently as you have ! I did notice the nun being pulled away by the other nun, and Tori's 'witchy' outfit ;o) lol, and Tori trying to reach certain people... but not in as cohesive a way as you have done. I think the video's beautiful... I think I put my own interp over it a bit, after one too many negative articles regarding us EWF, and the Bliss video... *shrug* I think I'm gonna go watch it again now; I taped it off "The Box" so I could. :o) One other thing that's kinda odd: when the nuns were passing by ? It almost reminded me of, have you seen or heard of the uncorruptibles ? In other words, bodies of saints or martyrs who have miraculously not 'corrupted' (decayed) even over hundreds of years ? They are always in a glass case lying there. When the nuns pass by, this is how Tori looks to me ! It just flashed thru my mind first time I saw it, couldnt' help it ;o) (This type of thing is mentioned in a book I once gave to Tori at a meet n greet: "An Inquiry Into the Existence of Guardian Angels" by Pierre Jovanovic). Because I've thought before, the way people bring Tori flowers, gifts, intentions (messages as you say) (and yes I'd tend to agree, Tori has the ability to pick up on all sorts of things out of the air) it's almost like people do with a living saint ! Interesting eh ?! Meaning nothing sacreligeous. Just an observation.
