But I am surely way off-base here. >> i dont think you're off-base really at all! I kinda thought that about concertina myself. I think its maybe about her journey writing songs and being in the music business, and maybe her experience making TVaB. Acutally here is my messed up interpretation of what it means: "Clouds descending, i'm not policing what you think and dream, I run into your thought from across the room. Just another trick, can i weather this?" - --Ok, clouds descending means night time is falling...she's going to start a concert. She's not trying to condemn us for what we think of her. She "communicates" to us from the stage (across the room). Its just another one of her shows, but can she weather it? "Ive got a fever above my waist" - -- I can see her sitting down at the piano and being totally into a song from the waist up... "I know the truth is in between the 1st and 40th drink" - -- She knows the truth will come out while she is playing between the 1st time and the 40th time.... or you know how that girl loves wine, she could mean it literally :) "Concertina, concertina a chill that bends" - -- She has said before she tries to change or try to bend music's form in a way, you know experiment with different forms. I think she is refering to the thrill of that in this line. "This i swear, you're the fiercest calm i've been in" - -- She described in one chat that she is experiencing a fierce calm now... perhaps with her music? "The soul-quake happened here in a glass world" - -- Ok i think maybe "soul-quake" refers to the time during little earthquakes where she was really hoping to express herself.. her soul..? "in a glass world"- perhaps refers to the fragile state she was in. "particle by particle she slowly changes.... can i weather this?" - -- Maybe she is saying here that her style and sound is slowly changing as she is experiencing different things in her life- can she handle the changes? "I got my fuzz all tipped to play, I got a dub on your landscape" - -- I'm not positive but isnt "fuzz" one of those sound terms.. kind of the fuzz sound in her songs on TVaB? Sorry if that sounded dumb but i dont know the term for it! Maybe she's saying she's ready for a new sound here. "too far too far... it could all get way too cheerful" - -- not too sure what this could mean..... Ok, If you understood anything of what i said.. let me know what you think! i'm ready to hear your feedback :) :)! When I bought my CD in the US, it was in a cardboard digi-pack with two sleeves for the 2 CDs. People were saying they'd seen it elsewhere in a jewel case (normal width, like the UTP/More Pink set) and one of the places listed was Best Buy. After checking the Best Buy near me (in Cambridge, MA), I suspect this was just confusion because they keep all of their CDs in a plastic case that gets removed after you buy the CD; it looks like a jewel case if you don't look too closely. So, has anyone actually seen and bought a jewel case version of the album in the US? I did find one while in Europe (at the duty-free shop in the Amsterdam airport, to be exact) and decided it was worth picking up even though it was a bit more expensive than the album is in the US (about $24) because I really want the jewel case so I don't destroy the CDs... (yes, stupid, when you can buy an empty jewel case for $1.00 :) I'm pretty sure this is the normal UK release because the serial# includes EW-something whereas the one on my cardbard digipak case doesn't. I love the mass so big line!!! Mass so big it could swalloswallowswallow her whole star intact -- This seems pretty sexual to me, especailly with the expression in her voice. Call me evil, etc.. -- A sexual woman is often considered evil, and this leads into the witchcraft thing... hearkens back also to Jackie's Strength "So I show you some more, and I learn, what black magic can do" as if she's cast some spell on him of entrancement > > "conjure anything by the dark of the moon"--Tori is the ultimate conjure-er, > no? Read above :) > > "I am sure you have been breifed my absorbtion lines they are frayed"--this > is a GREAT line! Remember high school chemistry class when you identifed > elemets by absorbtion lines? By sticking them in a flame? And if they were > "frayed" they were hard to read. Tori's music sure can be hard to read...and > the FRAYED is a great play on AFRAID--and her fear is the expression of her > humanity although some of us think that she is a goddess. > Great close reading! I never took chemistry and would never have gotten that! It trips me out how educated she is, in so many different fields too. MOst of it has got to be self-taught too, she's vbeen a musician first and foremost her whole life. > "little sister youll forgive me someday"--indignant fans getting upset about > something or other--shes with a band now, didnt bring the harpy on the tour, > or what all--she cant please us all all of the time tho she may want to Umm this part is so sad, reminds me of the child... "Ohh little sister, hope you didn't feel that way".. sigh I love Suede btw... it took me a while to get a feel for it, it felt so much like improv.. it's one of the only songs on the album that you can actually hear what she is singing... is pretty awesome. Also the part about being underneath his skin... suede is skin... he feels like suede, etc etc :) Kahlan ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999 19:19:45 EDT From: ThreeDs@aol.com Subject: 1,000 Oceans Enhanced HELP Please help me!! Actually... i have both....and to be honest...i think the digi-pack is much cooler (jewel case has liner notes in the front of the case and the little plastic flip out thingy that holds the two CD's back to back)...but like others have stated...the digi-pack will be much more easily damaged...unfortunately... = ( Subj: jewel case/digi-pack questions Date: 10/6/99 6:08:22 PM Pacific Daylight Time From: abbe@MIT.EDU (Abbe J Cohen) Sender: owner-precious-things@smoe.org Reply-to: abbe@MIT.EDU (Abbe J Cohen) To: precious-things@smoe.org So, now that the album's been out a while, have people perchance figured out what the deal is with the various digi-pack & jewel case releases? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999 22:19:32 EDT From: Aenima6699@aol.com Subject: Re: Caton's FX (e-bow) Just curious. Maybe someone knows this. Does the e-bow produce a clean/good sounding effect on a bass guitar? I love the sounds that it can pull from a guitar. I'd love it even more if I could do something similar on my bass. I have never been to one, I really want to tell Tori what a musical influence she has been to me and have her sign a guitar of mine. Any info on how the meet and greets work would be greatly appreciated, thank you very much. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it.
