This , I think has to be the song which I like least on this album, the one thing the makes me buy Toris album is her voice in song....this is just basically her talking for bloody ages about various druggy plants, a bit of music and then a repetition of the same line again and again 'deviding Canaan'...which I can take if the tune varies or her voices changes pitch, whatever but I just can't stand hearing that repeated again and again! arrghhh....maybe this is truly one for the drug-takers, because I think you'd have to be pretty drugged to get this song to sail your ships. Here's when promos have value: 1) They have songs unavailable elsewhere. 2) They have other stuff unavailable elsewhere (such as the "Tea with the Waitress" promo, with the interview). 3) The artwork is unavailable elsewhere (such as the "Precious Things" promo, or the _Under the Pink_ with alternate artwork). 4) The above hold, -and- there weren't many of them made. As such: your CD-R will likely have value only to a true collector, the person who simply must have everything Tori that they can get their hands on. Even then, this promo is pretty widely available (as promos go). I'd be willing to say that this item will never be worth more than US$20 in mint condition. Alot of you have complained that letterman nver talks to Tori and doesn't have any respect. Having interned on Late Night with Conan O'Brien, I know that the Late Night shows have incredibly tight schedules. If a guest talks for an extra 30 seconds, something has to be cut. Anyone who has been to a taping knows that stuff is often cut before the show airs. Dave usually doesn't have time to talk to any of the musical guests, I can't remember the last time he did. You all act like it's some kind of snub, no it's the nature of the late night show. Tori, believe it or not, is there to promote her single and album, not chat. If they do have a few extra seconds to chat, then we're lucky. Whenever Tori is on Letterman, she is always sitting next to him when they come back from the break after she performs. He often says something nice to her at this moment. Watch the show, this doesn't happen with all the musical guests. The fact that Leno and Letterman consistently have on a non-commercial artist who never has a top-ten single attests to their appreciation for her and her undeniable cult following. You don't see them rushing to have PJ Harvey or Bjork on, fellow cult artists. They and their producers and bookers like Tori for her music and her personality and it makes me happy that my favorite artist is appreciated by the late night shows. As for the dork on Sessions, that would be David Byrne, fellow eccentric and fascinating artist. I thought the interview was interetsing, if a little amusing considering how elliptical both of them can be. I only wish that the demons at MTV had as much respect for Tori as the late night shows. The only people that like her there are the programmers for 120 Minutes. Funny, Spark got some daytime play on MTV the first few weeks it was out, but to my knowledge, Bliss only got play on 120 Minutes. I guess MTV just needed to play that Blink 182 video a couple more times. So, be happy that Tori is liked by Leno and Letterman. - -nick ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 14:09:09 EDT From: "glytter grrl" Subject: Re: still orbiting dates duh...i'm an idiot. 12-3-98.....*feeling really moronic* > cooling is from the 12-3-99 show..... > >> >12-3-99 hasbt happened yet :O My friends and I are positive the version of >Precious things is from her dallas show. :) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 12:43:18 -0500 From: "hmm..." That is the universal release date so that the charts can be fair so that each CD has the same amount of time out to get on the charts with sales. Even most commercial singles are released on Tuesdays as well. Matthew I don't care what they think. I don't care what they say. what do they know about this love anyway? I have it all on mp3 until i can buy it, and its WIERD to hear things like "Were In this Together Now" and Im not a big Trent follower, but the only "relationship"s hes been in really is with Courtney Love, Tori, and maybe Marylyn Manson (which is Starfuckers, Inc) Any Trent buffs out there??? Okay baybe this belong on the Nine Inch Nails mailing list, but I was just throwing it out. Its a cool cd - -Courtney http://www.angelfire.com/bc/rapideye ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 15:00:53 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Tuesday? All albums in the States (regardless of record label) are released on Tuesdays. In Europe, all releases are on Mondays. There may be a few indie record labels who buck this trend, but it seems pretty doubtful. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 14:59:18 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: liner notes mistake? It's like Black Dove (January); Purple People >(Christmas In Space). Actually, there's been speculation that EastWest screwed up on the liner for this song. Note that none of the US Spark singles have the "(Christmas in Space)" after Purple People on the liner. I believe that the "(Christmas in Space)" was supposed to go after "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas", not after "Purple People". It certainly makes more sense, and I think my opinion is supported by the lack of "(Christmas in Space)" on the US Spark singles. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Sep 1999 14:55:40 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: just got bootleg At 01:09 PM 9/25/99 -0400, PWOBWEMOUS@aol.com wrote: > >hey guys >i just got "little rarities" >and im lovin it but whats the deal with that happy worker song? >can you say bob marley meets the backstreet boys? >haha actually i was kinda diggin it after a while but that was my first >impression >does anyone know how old that song is? ive never heard of it until i got this >cd That song is from the "Toys" soundtrack. It was produced by Trevor Horn [1]. It was, IIRC, supposed to be a single, but Tori didn't like the track. In fact, on the soundtrack, there's three versions of the song: "The Happy Worker", "Workers", and a reprise of "Happy Workers". Tori does the vocals for the first. The second is a weird remix of it, with vocals from the cast. The third is the interesting one, IMHO. Jane Siberry said that she was flown in at the last minute to do it, which is why she doesn't get a "performed by" mention in the liner notes, just an "appeared courtesy of". Tori and Jane didn't actually work together, they just recorded the exact same song. Tori's vocals were mainly used for the first song (although there are bits of Jane sprinkled in there), whereas more of Jane's vocals were used for the reprise. Here's what Jane Siberry's label's webpage says about it: "It says performed by Tori Amos. They flew Siberry in at the last minute. Strange experience the whole thing. Trevor Horn produced." HTH. :) /nad [1] The lead singer of either Rush or Yes. She was just a girl and a piano back in LE era...now she has moved on...evolution has taken place and has done a beautiful job. As you can see Tori liked making remixes of her songs into disco/electronica things (which I must add, Pro Widow remix made a big splash in my electronica scene). Now this cd is pretty much stepped into the Y2K thing and has taken you into space. The name speaks for itself. The cd is spacey and if you close your eyes you can see yourself floating in space. It's an upbeat and "different" cd...Tori was testing the water in FTCH and now jumped in with TVAB. It's all so clear. *delirium gal* Visit my website at http://fly.to/JupiterAndBack "I think Venus can be anywhere, can be left somewhere if you've left pieces of yourself with somebody else."- Tori Amos - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: ; Sent: Saturday, September 25, 1999 2:13 PM Subject: Re: My review of To Venus and Back > > In a message dated 9/24/1999 11:50:41 PM Eastern Daylight Time, > Freedom110@aol.com writes: > > << I just have one > issue that just annoys me to death.
