Hi all - I was wondering if there will be a meet and greet in Charlotte, as the venue Blockbuster Pavilion is on the outskirts of a neighborhood. A prior email mentioned that venues in neighborhoods often have rules about how early people can show up for concerts, etc. Email me privately or address the list if you know anything or you're planning to go. thanks Emily ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Aug 1999 19:51:56 -0700 From: violet@torithoughts.org Subject: poetry contest, winner will meet Tori (Much thanks to TTer Carissa for letting us know about this poetry contest at Alloy.Com.) http://www.alloy.com/winprizes/contests/toristurn/tori.stm Enter our poetry sweepstakes for your chance to win a trip for two to Los Angeles, on September 25th, to meet Tori and see her live in concert. Tori Amos is judging this month's poetry contest at Alloy.com! One way-lucky winner -- the one who dazzles Tori the most -- will score a FREE trip for two to Los Angeles, California, to meet Tori backstage, and see her perform live (with Alanis Morissette!) on Saturday, September 25 -- just four days after her new CD drops! But that's not all: Three second-place winners will receive cool Tori gift packs. Major, huh? So what are you waiting for -- enter your poetic masterpiece in the running now! Since Tori's new CD, to venus and back, is totally on the cosmic love tip, she's looking for poems about starry nights, soul mates, destiny, and all that deep stuff. PS: All you Cornflake Girls (and guys!) better boogie -- this cool contest ends September 10! And while you're at it, find out where you catch Tori and Alanis live on their 5 1/2 Weeks Tour this fall! I don't know why it took me so long to delurk, but now that I am out I think I will be quite active. My name is Josh and I live in Oklahoma, but am moving to Philadelphia for college in about a week and a half. I really wanted to go to the Pittsburg ( I think that was the city..) show, but it would have been on my 3rd day of classes and I didn't think I should skip that soon. haha I did catch Tori's FTCH show when she came to Tulsa. It was my only Tori concert to ever see. At that time I didn't even have any of her cds! Now I have almost all of them, including the singles.. haha. I think I am addicted. There are two people I seem to buy every release from, Tori, and Madonna. Weird combo, I know. Someone mentioned a few days ago where Tori may have got the title of her new cd from. It was stated that "her friend Natalie suggested it to her" or something like that. Well, I don't know, but I think of Natalie Merchant when I think of that. They seem like they could be friends. Also on Natalie's Ophelia tour this past year she sang the first line from "Northern Lad" and commented on how she liked the song. I wasn't at that concert but heard about it from another Nat fan. So maybe Natalie Merchant suggested the album title to Tori. Maybe someone already knows where the title came from and I just missed that post...haha. Hence, I wasted this whole paragraph with useless information. Also, I just bought the Tori vid collection and I love it! I got my grandma to watch it with me and she said she even liked the music and thought Tori was very pretty. She Loved her hair color by the way. The only thing remotely bad she said about Tori's song was that she didn't understand what they meant. Which I didn't really take as a negative thing, she is just a Tori novice. Heck, I usually don't know what they mean! :-P But I thought it was cool that my Grandma watched them with me. Anyway I thought the video was excellent. Well I hope you guys and gals say hi to me and accept me in your little club. :-) Because I want to be an insane Tori fanatic like the lot of you! It's easier to hear on recordings than actually in the show environment. As for the bass, when you've got the subs sitting on a concrete floor and are trying to make sure the people back in Sec 436 hear it (the first two shows were in hockey arenas) you have to overcompensate. Plus, the acoustics in most of these venues are horrible. As for why you heard Alanis more clearly .. she enunciates much more clearly than Tori. But I still could only understand a quarter of what she said. Plus, it's a bit harder to mic a Bosey than a guitar. I bought several jugs of water for people at the Nashville M&G and did my best to make sure everyone was okay. > I've gotta be honest here: I think the meet'n'greets are a thing of the > past. Actually, /nad, the problem isn't the people who really want to meet Tori just once. The problem is that there are a few people who are bound and determined to be at the front of EVERY M&G. And they're ruining it for everyone. Hell, last year, Danica and i showed up in Nashville at 10am and were the first people there. This year, Kip and I drove through the night and made #29 arriving shortly after 5am. Is it just me, or is that fucking NUTS? > There's talk that -all- meet'n'greets {not just the post-show ones} will be > suspended, and given the behavior I've witnessed at 'em, I can't say I > blame Tori and her staff at all. Out of minor curiosity, where did you hear this? Is it coming from Tori's folks or is it just chatter designed to keep people away from the M&Gs? I wouldn't put it past a few of those fronties to spread rumors like this to keep Tori to themselves. Oh, and folks, the number system is mostly working (at least at the last two shows). Please, as you get there get a number and make sure EVERYONE you see come in gets a number as soon as they get there. Plus, request that the number person writes down the time you got there on your hand. I've asked a few of the folks who are going to all of the shows to make some signs about this stuff. Just remember, if you want to meet Tori, you need to be respectful. The last two shows, Tori's been out for a LONG time. Have patience, respect, and don't push.
