Sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this thread.. I'm way behind on reading this list.. :) Anyway... I found another reference to Russians that I found interesting and wanted to get opinions on it.... maybe they're related somehow. There's a song by a Canadian band, Arrogant Worms (out of Saskatchewan I believe), called "Me Like Hockey." It's a funny little parody song about why Hockey is the greatest sport... "Favorite night is saturday night.. cuz me can watch hockey fights" and the guy sounds less than intelligent through the whole thing. (but it's funny!) Anyway, he makes fun of other sports at first, then makes fun of people within hockey.. and one of them is Russians.. he says "Russians worst in history.. got stupid names like VALERIE" So.. I was wondering if anybody knows what that might be a reference to, and if it might be related to Tori's line in some way. When I heard the line in Talula, I always thought of somebody who couldn't skate.. not necessarily actually dying, tho I've seen you guys found some articles about it and everything.. but it always made me think of somebody who couldn't skate, falling on their face or something.. like.. hockey players maybe? :) - -- ^_~Megasus~_^ http://members.xoom.com/Megasus/ ICQ# 14241089 "Just when you escape, you have yourself to fear.." -Tori Amos ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 14:21:15 -0400 From: "Erin Martin" Subject: fight back commercial Hi! There's so much going on, and it's one of my favorite songs as well. The 'weird' atmosphere of the video is just so breathtaking and wonderous.. I was thinking about "Talula". Awhile back someone had asked about the lines "it must be worth losing if it is worth something." This was so long ago that I don't remember who asked. In fact, I'm not sure if you ever got your answer. But, Tori was talking to a fan next to me after one of the DDI shows and this is what she said when asked about that line... "It must be worth losing if it is worth something was about not only realizing that you've lost it, but that you were capable of feeling something for it in the first place." I know it's not a deep quote... but, it's all I had for whoever if ever they still wanted to know anything about that line. It just took me awhile to find my writings from that time in my life. It's either identical to the US release, which means it's only of value to the absolute completist {and even then, if they have a UK or Aussie one, they'll probably pass it up}, and it's still in print. If it's not identical to the US one, it's the one with the extra remix of PW added and Voodoo removed. It's still not particularly worth anything, because it's in print. In general, nothing from the BfP period is really worth much. There are a few exceptions, but most items from that period were either printed in great enough quantities to still be worth face value, or are still in print. The bootleg "Some More for Pele" is a collection of BfP bee-sides. All of those bee-sides are still available, and it would cost you about the same to pick up the singles themselves. Beyond that, you get the art on the discs, and you're putting money in Tori's pocket, not some bootlegger. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jun 1999 19:07:05 EDT From: CallMySoul@aol.com Subject: NEW PHILOSOPHY LIST...CORRECTED URL! I have the bootleg "Some More For Pele", it cost me £15.75, which sound's about the same price as your version Bethany. It looks quite professional, and basically has a couple of songs that I hadn't heard before, "Butterfly", and "Losing My Religion", as they are all studio recordings, you don't suffer on sound quality. The track listing is as follows; Hey Jupiter (The Dakota Version) Professional Widow (Armand's Star Trunk Funkin' Mix) London Girls That's What I Like Mick Samurai This Old Man Hungarian Wedding Song Toodles Mr. Jim Talula (The Tornado Mix) Frog On My Toesy Sister Named Desire Alamo Talula (BT's Synthesia Mix) Amazing Grace/Til The Chicken Butterfly Losing My Religion So there are quite a lot of songs, basically all b-sides. As a reply to your question Susan, if this is just the album version, not a promo ed, it wont be worth anything, as it is still readily available in the shops in France, however, I'm not sure how available it would be in America, but I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to find over there. If you didnt pay much for it, don't expect it too be worth much- less than you paid for it, perhaps in 30 years it will be a different story! :-) Squidgy - ---------- >From: "Susan Stewart" >To: , >Subject: Re: more for pele? >Date: Wed, Jun 30, 1999, 0:44 > > > I just got the Import Boys For Pele...the france import.
