I like reading the explanations for songs. But there are some I'm not sure of. For instance, there is nothing mentioned about "Black Dove (January)". It is one of my favorite songs from FTCGH. I was wondering if anyone has any stories behind this and also "Liquid Diamonds." I can't believe how fast they got here, it usually takes at least 3 weeks or so. Anyway the tickets (like the website) are also oddly colored - they are purple and yellow. And the names on the tickets are like this: MP3.com/bestbuy connect to ALANIS TORI Morissette Amos just so you guys know that neither one of them gets special treatment on the ticket :) And for those who are obsessed :) with the service (convenience as they call it) charge - it was a total of $13 + $3 for mail handling for two tickets. *I can't wait!! kisses, joanne ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 23:48:58 EDT From: XXXPandora@aol.com Subject: Re: Tori / Alanis Tour on-line pre-sale << I couldn't have said it better myself. I really can't stand all the 'true fan' talk... about how some fans aren't as 'loyal' as others. Bull! Why would anybody say that? "But, you've only been into Tori for 2 years! I've liked her way back since YKTR first hit the shelves!" So? >> I don't think that this is what was meant by the original comment that sparked this discussion ... I think they were referring to the fact that only "true" fans of tori got tickets for this concert online ... not that you had to have bought tickets to be a true fan and not that you're not a true fan if you haven't liked tori for 6 years ... I think they were just trying to say that since there was virtually no advertisement, only big fans found out about the sale -- because let's face it - you either had to be on a tori mailing list, check the dent every day or know someone who is or does to know about this. And if I remember correctly, they were saying that this was good, that us big fans should have a special oppurtunity to get better seats to the shows - without having to wait outside when it's close to 100 degrees outside only to be screwed by the stupid lottery system (which ALWAYS happens) >>My comment was that those people who were willing to give up the rest of their life to stand in line should be able to get the best tickets. If it's *that* important to a person, than by all means let them sit up front. << These people should have their own special section, right up front, complete with straightjackets :) >>Point being, however, the Internet still isn't the best way to handle ticket sales. TicketMaster just doesn't have the infrastructure to handle that amount of web traffic. There are two things I can see they can do to EASILY fix this:<< or they could have just divided the ticket sales -- like ft. lauderdale and tampa go on sale friday, the next two shows saturday or the next friday etc. I was wondering why they didn't do that the whole time ... i mean thats what they normally do when tickets go on sale - could you imagine a big act's concert tickets going on sale all over the US?? someone like the rolling stones, who sell out huge arenas? Doing this would have helped with the problems considerably. kisses, joanne ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 23:41:12 EDT From: Skylar2@aol.com Subject: jackie/lucifer promo hi. quick question. i have the jackie's strength / father lucifer promo vinyl...the one with the pics of records on it. people were paying tons for it before the official release,. i just wanted to know what the approx. value is. it's not on the rmta faq yet. if anyone wants it, email me. i haven't listed or figured out what to do with it yet. .j ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 11:10:58 -0500 From: Ryan Engel Subject: Tori mentioned in an AP News article Hey folks Reading the state paper here in WI yesterday, I came across an article by the AP news service about MTV and the anti violence campaign they are involved in. How is this relevant to the precious things list? A little more than halfway down, at the end of a paragraph, they had a line that went something like "(MTV), joining efforts with diverse allies, such as the Justice Dept., and artists such as Lauren Hill and Tori Amos." They didn't mention RAIN anywhere in the article, but perhaps next time they write an article they'll do a bit more research or have a little more space and throw it in. In fact never. I never just say hi when the sun is on my tongue and my belly's all warm. On bad days I talk to Death constantly, not about suicide because honestly that's not dramatic enough. Most of us love the stage, and suicide is definitely your last performance, and, being addicted to the stage, suicide was never an option -- plus people get to look you over and stare at your fatty bits and you can't cross your legs to five that flattering thigh angle and that's depressing. So we talk. She says things no one else seems to come up with, like let's have a hot dog, and then it's like nothing's impossible. She told me once that there is a part of her in everyone, though Neil believes I'm more Delirium than Tori, and Death taught me to accept that, you know, wear your butterflies with pride. And when I do accept that, I know Death is somewhere inside of me. She was the kind of girl all the girls wanted to be, I believe, because of her acceptance of "what is." She keeps reminding me there is change in the "what is" but change cannot be made till you accept the 'what is.' Like yesterday, all the recording machines were breaking down again. We almost lost a master take and the band leaves tomorrow and we can't do any more music till we resolve this. We're in the middle of nowhere in the desert and my being wants to go crawl under a cactus and wish it away. Instead, I dyed my hair and she visited me and I started to accept the mess I'm in. I know that mess spelled backwards is ssem, and I felt much better armed with that information. Over the last few hours I've allowed myself to feel defeated, and just like she said, if you allow yourself to feel the way you really feel, maybe you won't be afraid of that feeling anymore. When you're on your knees you're closer to the ground. Things seem nearer somehow. If all I can say is I'm not in this swamp, I'm not in this swamp, then there is not a rope in front of me and there is not an alligator behind me and there is not a girl sitting at the edge eating a hot dog, and if I believe that, then dying would be the only answer because then Death couldn't come and say Peachy to me anymore and, after all, she has a brother who believes in hope." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 15:13:49 EDT From: PokaDot420@aol.com Subject: Re: precious-things-digest V4 #154 would somebody please tell me when tori tickets go on sale to the public? this whole internet ticket deal really sucks to me! i tried so hard to get good tickets and was on my computer an hour before they went on sale just to make sure that i could grab a great seat, but noooo my computers too slow :( so now im gonna see what i can get by standing in line, the way i prefer to get tickets sara ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 26 May 1999 23:56:25 -0500 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Neverwhere again. You may wish to ask a bookstore in your area if they are willing to order a non-American book for you. A large store, such as Barnes and Noble, - -should- be able to {if you provide them with the UK ISBN}, but I can't promise that they will actually do so. If you order from the UK Amazon, use your credit card. Beyond providing several protections that cash or a debit card does not give you, the credit card will automatically convert British pounds to US dollars for you, and give you the best exchange rate. You may also wish to ask around and see if you can find someone in the UK who's willing to pick up a copy of this for you, perhaps in trade for something that's only readily available in the States. However, the tour is making a minimal amount of seats available for purchase in advance on their tour website only beginning on May 28. This website address is http://www.alanisandtori.mp3.com. The advance sale on the tour website will not be publicized anywhere other than the Internet and is the best way to get the best seats possible, although there will be plenty of good seats held for the general public on-sale Aug. 8 if you don't have any luck getting tickets through the tour website. We'll be posting information on the Pavilion website once the ticket prices are confirmed by the end of the week, but they'll be in the $40-$50 range for reserved seats and $30 range for lawn seats. So, I called ticketmaster. I talked to a lady who was very rude and unhelpful - not letting me explain the situation before she cut me off with "Ticketmaster doesn't handle ANYTHING at the Concord Pavilion!" *click* Well, fine then! So, I called the Concord Pavilion. The lady I spoke with was very sweet and said it was a shame I had been going in circles just to find out what time the on-sale starts. However, she had no new information for me, but said that if she did, she would haved certainly loved to give it to me. So, I called ticketmaster back, hoping to talk to a different person. The gentleman I spoke with was very friendly, and let me explain the situation to him (that mp3.com and ticketmaster are pre-selling tickets online, and that what is not sold online will be sold Aug 8 through BASS). He said he didn't have an official time for the on-sale and that it wouldn't be in their computers until tomorrow morning, if I wanted to call then. He also said that most tickets go on-sale at 10:00 am, so he suspected/guessed that this on-sale would too. I next called the mp3.com Corporate Headquarters. In circling their automated phone system for 10 minutes, I finally talked to a real human being who said that they know the tickets for Concord go onsale "this weekend" (?) but they don't know when. Go figure! Anyway, that's all the info I could get out of everyone! Your guess is as good as mine! See you online tomorrow! ~~michaela blanchard~ _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. The statement is in response to Rock For Life's release from Tuesday (May 25), which bore the outrageous headline, "New Lilith Fair CD Helps Pay For Deaths of Future Fans." The pro-life organization called for "parents and young people of all ages not to buy the new Lilith Fair CD." Volumes two and three of the compilation -- featuring artists on Sarah McLachlan's successful Lilith Fair tour -- were released May 18 on Arista. "Rock For Life should get its facts straight," says Berkowitz in the prepared statement. "Profits from the Lilith Fair CD are split between RAINN, the national rape hotline, and another organization [LIFEbeat], which fights AIDS. Not a dime goes to any abortion rights group. "Far from 'abus[ing]' women and children by pushing birth control and abortion,' as Rock For Life charges, Lilith's CD provides a substantial part of RAINN's annual funding, and helps us maintain our position of not accepting government funds," he continues. "Lilith Fair should be applauded for this effort to help victims of rape; these victims are the ones who will lose if the boycott call is heeded... We hope Rock For Life will see that it has been misinformed, call off the boycott, and work with RAINN to help victims of sexual assault." Rock For Life claims that the Lilith compilations benefit Planned Parenthood, but a spokesperson for Lilith says the CD only benefits RAINN and LIFEbeat. Planned Parenthood, however, is listed on the Lilith Fair Web site (www.lilithfair.com) as one of the organizations "who will be recipients of Lilith Fair's contributions and will also have booths in the Village area on each Lilith Fair date." Rock For Life director Bryan Kemper said in his statement, "Hidden behind the effort to provide a better life for women is an ugly agenda that filters money to organizations that do nothing more than abuse women and children by pushing birth control and abortion... When you spend money on these artists' CDs and tapes, some of the money goes to support the destruction of millions of babies." RAINN was founded in 1994 by Amos and provides a free hotline (800-656-HOPE) to counsel victims of sexual assault. Rock For Life is a division of American Life League, the country's largest pro-life educational organization. - ------------------ sabrina ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 20:10:39 EDT From: "Sonya Harway" Subject: Re: remixes <> This song is NOT a remix of Precious Things.
