There is also a sequel (kinda) called "Death: the Time of your Life." Like I said, excellent stuff. and there are some similarities between Death and Tori, given that tori was based (according to neil) on some of the characters in the Sandman series. Sandman has 7 brothers/sisters, all with names that start with D. There is Death, Delirium, Dream, Desire, Destruction, Despair, and Destiny. Originally, Delerium was a tori-ish figure, but she got killed off, and subsequently became Death. The main similarities are teh visual likenesses, as well as some of Death's idiosyncracies. I play nothing but Tori in the house (both on the television and the stereo) and in the car. He fancies himself a comedian, so he always has something strange to say. Until today, nothing seemed substantial enough to share. In the past he usually asked things like "Why is she making that noise?" and announces that he "bets someone had to pull her hair REALLY hard to get her to make that noise"... But today, he decided to give me a little song interp. of his own. We were in the car.. Destination: Hicksville, Texas. I, of course, popped in the Tori (FtCgH, to be exact), his first response was "we're not going to listen to that the whole time, are we? I can't take the tragedy." So I decided to spare him the "tragedy" and I put on Hotel. All of a sudden he was enthralled. He announed that she was "making pancakes". Every time the song would change sound (as you well know Hotel does) He annoued that Tori and the crew were at a different stage of making these pancakes. Some examples: "Here, they're pouring them into the pan! ssss!" "Ahh, they're fighting over who gets to put in the blueberries...but I am afraid it's too late for blueberries." "Now they're putting them on the plates!" "THEY'RE POURING ON THE SYRUP!!!" I was laughing my ass off,he was pretty proud of himself. It was so funny I just had to share... And if you've made it to this point I thank you for listening... I guess for those of us who live where Tori "has to get" (TEXAS!!!) You're a bit tired of reading about tour info that doesn't pertain to you... Just a little to lighten the gloom! Thanks! Any ideas? Yeah, I do remember. And in fact, I was thinking about that when I wrote my email.. I don't think they were very successful, unfortunately. Ticketmaster knows that they have a lot of control over anyone wanting to go to concerts, and I think that makes them jack up their prices as high as they can, since they know that people will have to go through them. She had written Tear In Your Hand (with the Me and Neil'll be hanging out with the Dream King lyric) and was performing it in England when Neil walked into the room. Tori apparently gave a friend a copy of LE to give to Neil at a comic convention in the US, and he loved it. He called Tori up, and the rest is histori. Apprently he didn't notice the Neil lyric in Tear in Your Hand until much much later. Imagine his surprise! Delerium has been influenced by Tori and vice versa :) I had the most incredible chance to meet Neil in Ann Arbor back in February. He did a reading from Stardust and did a book signing. although he was only scheduled to sign until 9pm, he stayed until every one was signed, pictures were taken and talks were done. over 200 people were there ! he signed my black orchid, and we talked briefly about tori, his comics and his novels. he was very ruggedly handsome and has such a beautiful voice. he was very personable and very very nice. We, the true fans, were informed of this and given a full day to purchase "VIP Seats" before the public was allowed to buy. example: The Electric Factory in Philly sent me the news that Internet only sales would begin on Sat. So yes, this concert is being mainly promoted over the internet for the sake of the fans. Ticket Brokers generally don't belong to the various lists, so are screwed out of the advance info. If the venue doesn't sell out (I would think by a month before hand), then regular sales would begin for the remainder of the seats. But this looks like it really worked. Who will be sitting in the front of each venue? Mainly hard core fans. Yeah, those without internet access get screwed, but in a couple of years, the internet will be as common as TV or telephone. Even the poorest of families have at least one TV. Computers and internet fees will become comparible to TV with basic cable. Delirium wasn't based on Tori originally. She was created before Neil had even heard of, let alone met, Tori. But they each realized that Tori was a lot like Delirium. And some things after Neil and Tori became acquainted do seem to be very Tori-ish. And in the thing (Prologue or something.. I can't remember the word) Tori did for Death: The High Cost of Living, she says how she really feels closer to the character Death sometimes. Sandman comics are one of my favoritest things in the whole world. If I had the money, I would own all of them, but as it is, I just own most of them. Hopefully I can read the others sometime soon too. :] Mairie http://members.xoom.com/pianoqueen/ Ode to the Piano Queen ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 May 1999 22:43:03 EDT From: Freque79@aol.com Subject: Re: neil and tori In a message dated 5/24/99 6:13:13 PM Central Daylight Time, GonaTwinkl@aol.com writes: > Actually, the title is "Death, the High Cost of Living." I don't know if I am misunderstanding what you are saying here.. But, Delirium didn't get killed off and become Death. Delirium and Death are sisters, existing at the same time. And most of the time when people are comparing visual likenesses of Sandman characters to Tori, they compare Tori and Delirium. Delirium has many forms, and she's always sorta in a non-stable physical form, with butterflies and fish and bubbles flowing into and out of and all around her. But anyway, she frequently has either multi-colored or reddish hair, and is kinda kooky.. That's one main reason why she and Tori are compared. If I misunderstood what you were saying, let me apologize now. :] And if anyone wants to see some cool pictures of Sandman comics and Delirum and Death and stuff, feel free to travel over to my little Sandman site. It's at http://members.xoom.com/freque/sandman.html. There's also some webrings there, so you can check out some other sites since mine doesn't really have ALL that much on it at this point. :] Mairie http://members.xoom.com/pianoqueen/ Ode to the Piano Queen ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #152 *************************************
