There is an old saying that goes, "A thing worth having is a thing worth losing." As with many adages, it doesn't seem to make a lot of sense at first, but after you think about it, it's quite profound. I've always seen a parallel between that and the more recent proverb "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it is yours. If it doesn't, it never was." I don't know if this is any kind of justification for this phenomenon, but it seems to me that every album has a tragedy linked to it - except UtP. For example: Little Earthquakes: rape Boys for Pele: huge breakup with Eric From the Choirgirl Hotel: miscarriage As Erin mentioned, there was the whole cancer/Pledge incident, but nothing about that appears in her songs (*shrugh* or at least from what I've noticed). Consequently, I think she is most beautiful in videos like Past the Mission, God, and the U.K. version of Cornflake Girl. Don't get me wrong, I think she is beautiful in all of the videos, but more so in these three-from the UtP era. The actual studio version has the piano very toned down in the background. It also has this kind of "spacy" sound in the background...almost like chimes, or sugar falling on metal. =) The horses remix was apparently made (from what I've heard, and some mixed-in assumptions) when the Father Lucifer remix was made. These were both "lost" remixes during the BFP era. nobody really heard the horses remix until it was played live during the Sneak Preview shows at the beginning of the Plugged '98 tour. I think they were available on MP3 for a while, er something. There is a Crucify remix available on the singles, UK and US. It's not very different, just some slight variations. For example, they cut some of the vocals in the bridge (i.e. Please say I die) and there are some added instrumentations. This is the song version they used in the video. The Precious Things remix I've never heard, but it was mentioned in a previous post by someone. It's available on a compilation cd called Urbal Beats. The Raspberry Swirl remix w/Proffessional Widow was played live at the Glastonbury Festival and that is the only place it is available from. I beleive Danica has (had) the MP3 available on her site, but I don't know if it is up and running again. This was the version that was taped and played on the ABC Halloween Special. I forget what it was called. It's really kinda cool, cause right in the middle tori just kinda stops in the middle and sings a part of the PW remix by Armand Van Helden (the one that goes honey bring it close to my lips, yeah. and It's gotta be big). The question is about the Live From NY video, I was watching it today for about the 100 time and I was wondering when Tori talks about the person she first sang the song Leather to was in the audience, does anyone know who she was talking about? The thing I wanted to post is about From The Choirgril Hotel. When I 1st bought the album I wasn't that into it. I thought that is was way too different from her normal sounds. But now I think that this album is my favorite. I just cannot get enough of the songs Norhtern Lad, Hotel, i i e e e, and Playboy Mommy. I know that a lot of other EWF said that this album was their least favorite. I was just wondering if anyone else had a strong liking for this album as I do. ~~*TeRrY*~ _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. Found a great website: http://www.mysticflame.com/cyberwitch/totems/totemain.html For instance: "racing turtles, the grapefruit is winning"..... that website has this to say, in part, about turtles: "The turtle is a shore creature, using the land and the water. All shore areas are associated with doorways to the Faerie Realm. The turtle is sometimes known as the keeper to the doors. Turtles thus were often seen as signs of fairy contact and the promise of fairy rewards. In Nigeria, the turtle was a symbol of the female sex organs and sexuality. To the Native Americans, it was associated with the lunar cycle, menstruation, and the power of the female energies. The markings and sections on some turtles total thirteen. In the lunar calendar, there are either thirteen full moons or thirteen new moons alternating each year. Many believe this is where the association with the female energies originated. Turtle is the symbol of the primal mother." And another example: "you've cut out the flute from the throat of the loon"....here's part of what that website has to offer on loons: " To many outdoor people, the loon call is the true call of the wild. It stirs the primal embers within all who hear it no matter how long those embers have lain to cool. It is as if the sound is calling forth all that we have ignored or shoved to the back of the closet in our minds." Anyway, just thought it was interesting. :-) Michelle ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 May 1999 21:14:45 -0400 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Re: Jackie's Strength At 08:19 AM 5/20/99 EDT, Heather980@aol.com wrote: >I heard that it had something to do with her pregnancy. I heard this from a >friend, and personally, I don't see how it makes any sense in this song. > I've taken everything I've heard Tori say in regards to this song in numerous interviews. She was in the airport gift shop to grab something to read on the plane. On the counter was featured a new paperback about Jackie O. and she grabbed it on impulse (and lack of time to find anything else). While reading it on the plane, she saw the photos of first the wedding of Jack and Jackie and then turned the page to see the horrific pic of Jackie climbing out the back of the car after Jack's scalp. It inspired the first two lines and everything flowed out after. She also said the the chorus of JS was originally stuck in "Hotel" until she realized that "make me laugh, etc." belonged to Jackie, like wedding vows. I don't know where your friend got her info, but Tori has never said anything publicly to my knowledge concerning the name of her child. Really, the most I heard off record (not confirmed by "official sources") was that Skeeter was the nickname she used for the pregnancy. Jackie is about Jackie O. and Tori's feelings concerning (what was) her up coming marrige. Of course, that is simplistic and there are many layers to this song, as with all of Tori's songs. Like peeling an onion that never ends. Tickets will be available online for most of the shows of the 5 1/2 Weeks Tour tomorrow morning, May 21. Ticketmaster now has listings for 21 of the 26 shows. These 21 shows ARE going onsale Friday morning at 10:00AM local time except for Bakersfield, CA, which is going on sale at 7:00AM Pacific. You can see definite times and details at the Dent at: http://members.aye.net/~mikewhy/tourinfo.html You will also find links to seating charts for ALL venues and other useful links and tidbits at the above URL... The 5 shows we still don't know about are: Washington D.C. Saratoga Springs NY Toronto Canada Concord CA Phoenix AZ Ticketmaster does not deal with the Washington D.C.(which uses Protix), Concord CA (which uses BASS Tickets) and Phoenix (which I think simply uses Dillards Department stores!) Despite the fact that these venues don't use Ticketmaster, It is still possible these cities will be going onsale Friday morning since those other ticket places have their own online ticket sites or toll free phone numbers. I am sure that alanisandtori.mp3.com will tell you what to do if you need to order tickets for those cities and *IF* they are available. Saratoga Springs is handled by Ticketmaster, but since that show was added late, I bet there is a chance it will not go on sale with the others... Toronto is handled by Ticketmaster Canada I think and I did not see anything listed there. But an article at the Canadian Jam! Music web site the other day implied the tickets for that show would be available on Friday morning... I suggest that we all go to alanisandtori.mp3.com *FIRST* to try to get these tickets. I don't know what time the site is launching, but it should be up and going by the time tickets go on sale. If that does not work, my next choice would be www.ticketmaster.com if your venue is listed there. LA/Irvine people are supposed to go to www.kroq.com. I heard the KROQ web site was hacked and down recently. I would think the site will be back up in time for the sale tomorrow morning, but if it is not try Ticketmaster's site instead! There is a listing for the LA show on Ticketmaster! To be on the safe side I would start checking the alanisandtori.mp3.com site early in the morning (like 6:00AM no matter where you are..) and keep checking each hour to be on the safe side. But as I said I think most tickets will go on sale at 10:00AM in the time zone the venue is in, except for Bakersfield, which is 7:00AM PACIFIC. Concerning Indianapolis, IN tickets, don't forget that they are odd there and don't set their clocks forward like the rest of country in Spring, so I THINK they are actually equal to Central time right now, even though the Ticketmaster web site says 10:00 Eastern. That one could be tricky... You *MUST* use a credit card or debit/bank card (with Visa or Mastercard on it) to order your tickets and your browser will need to accept all Cookies!
