Originally, it was supposed to be a two or three disc set of live material and b-sides, but it is now one disc of live material and one disc of all new songs. The b-sides have been scrapped, thanks to Atlantic no doubt (they were afraid that they wouldn't be able to sell a three disc set.... guess they don't know us very well, do they?) Anyway, that's the latest. I am beyond excited!! I didn't think we would be getting an all new CD from Tori for at least a few years. Now we can look forward to that, plus getting to hear her do some of the new songs in concert!! Oh, and it's also 1 year to the DAY since the last Tori show at the Hard Rock, I just thought I'd point that out. Anyways, Ticketbastard has agreements with it's retail outlets which limits the availability of their online sales, that means online tickets usually go on sale 1 hour after the regular outlets have already started selling unless they are having some promotion for the online tickets. In addition, depending on which regional system your ticketmaster outlet is in, you may be able to purchase tickets for events out of your home state, that is unless they anticipate a high demand for the show, if so they limit which areas are able to sell tickets for certain shows. For instance, those of us in Seattle can buy tickets for any event in the West system (Left coast to the Rockies) barring any restrictions. The safest bet is to go to the outlet you plan on buying your tix at about an hour early or call your local phone outlet, that way the agent can look up the event code, know how to get into another area's local system, and make sure everything is a-ok. If not, then they can give you the number for the call center that is handling the show you wish to attend. Hope this helps! I would be very suprised if >this was all the information about this song available since it seems that >they were almost done recording it when it was scrapped and SOMEONE SOMEWHERE >has to have heard this song. No one, in either Tori or R.E.M. fandom, seems to know anything about this. Between the rabid fans of the two, you'd think that someone somewhere would've managed to dig up some more info about it. There were a few articles about the duet when it was being recorded {including one entitled "When You're Strange" in, IIRC, Entertainment Weekly -- I can try to dig that up if y'all are interested}, but... it just disappeared. After it was pulled from the Don Juan de Marco soundtrack {IIRC, reports at the time said that Tori and Stipe weren't pleased with the inclusion of that horrific Bryan Adams song, so they pulled off it}, rumors said that it was going to be included on a couple of other soundtracks. It (obviously) never showed. The next hope was for a BfP bee-side {and, in fact, the FAQ for the newsgroup rec.music.rem specifically told folks to wait for BfP and see if it turned up as a bee-side there}. It still hasn't seen the light of day, and if anyone besides Tori and Stipe and the other folks in the studio have heard it, they're keeping mum. At this point, I think our chance to ever hear this song is either (a) storm Atlantic's offices and steal it ;) or (b) hope that it's on the box set. I've been patient enough to wait this long for it, so I'm going to stick to option (b) for now. But if it's not on the box set, there may be one extremely unhappy geek on Atlantic's doorstep one morning wielding a bunch of Barry Manilow CDs. "Give me that duet or I'll start singing along with Copa Cabana!" If that doesn't work, I'll have to have to bring out the big guns: "The Name Game", over and over and over. /nad {shirley birley bo-birley banana-nana bo-birley me mi mo merly shirley!} {this somewhat silly message brought to you by cough syrup with codeine} ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 May 1999 08:17:16 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Tori stickers? The one I picked up cost $3ish, and it was a picture of Tori playing the piano wearing a brown t-shirt. It's from a concert in the UtP period, IIRC. There's a poster from the same show, and one of the pictures in either the 1998 or 1999 calendar is from that show too. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 01 May 1999 08:31:28 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: UK releases (new to the list) At 12:31 AM 5/1/1999 +0100, Mike Gray wrote: [snip] >However, it was not meant to be thus. [snip] >So, in short, the question of the day is : >Q : What's the difference between East/West and Atlantic? >A : Atlantic actually release records... Which brings me to a question: we've been hearing all about this box set on this side of the pond. Is it going to be released in Europe, too? Or are y'all going to be stuck importing it? I really don't get EastWest this time around. During the LE and UtP periods, the EW releases were everything a fan could ask for, whereas the Atlantic releases just paled in comparison. For those two albums, the only thing Atlantic did well were promos -- which is ducky for collectors with more money than sense {translation: me}, but doesn't do the rest of the world any good. For BfP, the UK releases were about the same as the US releases -- and towards the end of that period, the US releases were better {I'm specifically thinking of the HJ EP here}. But for ftch... EW has just had its head up its ass. The UK Spark single was great, and the US one was just a waste of money in comparison. I had my hopes up, and those hopes doubled when we heard "Merman" was to be a UK JS bee-side. Then, nothing, and no real reason given. Wtf? >From where I'm sitting, it's absolutely looking like EW just gave up on Tori. Why, I dunno. She did a pretty good Euro tour, and the album wasn't lacking in material to release. Did EW just not like the new material and the band sound? Or is this some kind of politics that I'll just never understand? I honestly don't get why EW dropped the ball like this, and in such a public manner. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 May 1999 18:53:32 EDT From: Hunny256@aol.com Subject: Re: Tori stickers? those keychains are relatively easy to make. You can pick up one of those "insert a picture" photo kechains, and put a picture of Tori in there. If you can find them where you live they sell some really nice glossy photos of her. Just take it to Kinko's or something, and have them shrink it. That way you can pick your favorite Tori Picture! The "shaved every place where youve been boy" lyric had a heart stopping effect on me the first time that I heard it. BfP came out right after I had gone through a nasty break-up with a boy. To make a long story short, we broke up partially because I cheated on him. And after I did the cheating I had "shaved every place where the other man had been". It was a compultion. I dont understand why I feel I HAD to do it. I guess it was kind of like how some rape victims take a lot of showers because they feel dirty. Well, I felt DIRTY--especially since the encounter with this other man was my own fault. So, when I heard the Tori lyric a few months after I did that, I was so shocked. I thought she had a window into my soul or something! So my point is: this shaving thing could be a literal statement.
