My friend who didn't know alot about this whole ticket buying process, bought us tickets for the Richmond VA show last august. she somehow ended up with a wrong number and dealt with a broker. It is my understanding that brokers such as this one are illegal in some states. He sold my friend 2 tickets for the show at 50 dollars each. They were sold for about 30 by the venues. He didn't inform her at the time that they were non refundable, although i always make that assumption with tickets. Anyways, he told my friend they were in the first 10 rows. our seats were in the 29th row on the far, far left side. the moral: buy from unliscensed brokers at your own risk and be sure to be fully informed before you do so. This broker did not give her the seat numbers.... i would never have boughtthem without knowing, but oh well.... .j. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Apr 1999 23:19:08 -0400 From: Jenelle Campion Subject: JS remix Which remix was it that was being loved in all the clubs? But that is what my interpretation is of the song. I'm sorry that I can't remember who asked the question. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hmm I've always been confused by Blood Roses too.... I think the most important thing is 'her' position on the album - after the initial calm of Beauty Queen /Horses, you could think that you're in for a gentle ride with this record, but then out crashes the harpsichord and the resentment just explodes from every line. It's like BQ/H sets the scene then BR charges down into the centre of it all - (one of the most amazing things I remember from the BFP tour was how as soon as she hit the first key of BQ - sooo quietly - the audience just was SILENCED, like someone switched off the vocal expressions of everyone in that audience and was instead pumping all the emotion through that first little note) ANYWAY :-) my point (yes! there is one!) is that I don't think BR really has a straight-forward narrative story - instead it sets the scene for how angry things are going to get on BFP. "I think you're a queer", sung with such anger, is a brilliant (& shockingly (honestly) non-PC) sentiment that must just seem like the most hurtful thing her instincts can think of to scream at the men who've 'failed' her (by her I don't mean tori, i mean the.. umm... spirit of the song... you know?). That central image "Blood Roses", also makes me think of the nursery rhyme "ring-a-ring-a-roses..." about the red blotches people got before they died of the plague (there's a hell of a lot of death and deseases on BFP, isnt there?? "my cells cant feed", "the prettiest red ribbons", "I killed a man T" {does anyone know what that like in Twinkle is a reference to?? Its one of Tori's least discussed songs and I've always wondered... maybe she means "killed a man" through (metaphorical) vampirism etc like shes talked about in interviews... Oh dear, this has turned into one of those long rambling posts that pisses people off for being so ... well... "WILL YOU JUST GET TO THE POINT BOY!" ... yes so basically the "think your a queer" line shocked me at 1st because I'm gay myself and new tori was supportive of that ("SHE HUGGED ME!!!") so why use that phrase in such a bitter way?? I reckon it just ties in with "I shaved every place where you've been boy" as being just the dirtiest, nastiest thing at the core of the Men Problem Thing, a emotional equivalent to the brutality (+ sexual repression) of genital mutilation ("chickens get a taste of your meat"),,,,, and there's a double meaning in that with "chicken" being a gay word for a Pretty Young Thing (i.e. "those demi-gods") [btw steve - I never heard it used to mean a prostitute... maybe it means different things in different countries??] and meat sometimes meaning, well... boys rude bits, if you'll pardon my french, which would connect to the "sometimes you're nothing but meat" found an excellent quote, from Tori, about BR on the Tori Online Research Institute: "And the songs started coming. Blood Roses was the first, and it was that feeling of ripping open your vein and going, 'This blood has sold millions of records. This blood can do many things.' And [the men are] like, 'Yes, Tori, and this blood isn't enough for us.'" (The Baltimore Sun, January 21, 1996) OK! I'll stop now! If you have an extra Tori item lying around, or are artistically inclined, or have some CDs that need a new home, please consider donating them to the ToriCon auction. I see stickers all the time on ebay's action site (www.ebay.com) which usually go for anywhere between $2 to $10 (Yeah, there's one certain bumper sticker that goes for about 10.. I guess because it's not being made anymore..) Anyway, I got one for 2.50 that I put on my car, and it seems to be handling the crappy weather really well. :) I saw another site with some stickers before for about $3 a peice (4x4 which is the size of the one I got) but I don't remember the URL.. if I find it again I'll be sure to let you know. I myself am trying to find Tori keychains.. anybody with info on those, please let me know. :) - -Meg, who's ordering her rmta bumper stickers soon, and hoping they're still available :) - -- ^_~Megasus~_^ http://members.xoom.com/Megasus/ ICQ# 14241089 *~The Divine Princess of the Church of Daughter-chan!~* *~List Admin of the Xelloss-Lovers ML!~* "I've been raisin' up my hands, drive another nail in.. got enough guilt to start my own religion.." -Tori Amos "Just when you escape, you have yourself to fear.." -Tori Amos ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 1 May 1999 00:31:48 +0100 From: "Mike Gray" Subject: Re: UK releases (new to the list) Hi Vidar, everyone... > I just joined this list, and this is my first post. I was wondering if any of you know about any other UK releases off the >choirgirl-album than "Spark". And if there is any - how did they do (I can't remember seeing any in the Top 40/Top 75), if not - >why??? Ooh! Can I field this one? Can I? Can I? The answer to the question is that as of yet, there have been no release from FTCGH in the UK apart from the 2 CDs and 1 cassette of Spark. However, it was not meant to be thus. Firstly, we were promised Jackie's Strength - in fact, Tori recorded B-Sides for it in the UK prior to her gig in Liverpool on the Choirgirl tour. In fact, adverts were placed in the trade press for the single, and it was include on a Warner in-store promo CD, although I forget which one (and it's too late at night to be bothered checking, frankly...) and several US importers had it on offer. It all looked good. Then it was cancelled, for no apparent reason, but replaced by Raspberry Swirl. This time, East/West really went to town. Pressed two-track promos, 12" promos, got pluggers out there, told the shops to expect it, pressed the CDs, and ~fanfare~ cancelled it. Erm... whatever. So that's the story so far, or so it seemed until earlier this year, when there was a rumour of Jackie's Strength (remixes) being released. Since then (as of the last few weeks) UK promos have begun to turn up, albeit on Atlantic rather than E/w. They're only 12" as of yet. Expect to pay around £5-£15 for one. It's different to any 12" issued in the US, as far as I know, as it's only one vinyl and has no "Father Lucifer" mixes at all. It's scheduled for a release in July. Although, please, don't take anyone's word for it. So, in short, the question of the day is : Q : What's the difference between East/West and Atlantic? A : Atlantic actually release records... Oh well, that's all, folks... Mike ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #126 *************************************
