Given Tori's somewhat lacking enunciation sometimes, I dunno if she's actually singing just one or not. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 12:48:45 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: Pardon My Confusion At 11:09 PM 4/22/1999 -0400, Tripp Gwyn wrote: > >Okay guys, I'm sorry, I don't wanna stir S*IT up, but I'm so confused now. >The entire Rolling Stone thing is true, I read it myself. It's never had an American >(Atlantic-Records) release. Am I wrong? Remember that "new" might not necessarily mean "really really new material", or "not a bee-side". There are bee-sides that haven't been released to the public yet {Merman, Snow Cherries, that duet with Michael Stipe}, so they'd qualify as "new". Songs that haven't been released in the States, such as "Flying Dutchman", may also qualify as "new". Who knows how Rolling Stone {or, for that matter, Tori and Atlantic} are defining "new"? IOW, don't freak out yet. It's too early, we simply don't know enough -- I'd be willing to bet that Tori hasn't made the final decision of what's going in the set and what's not. We probably won't know for another little while. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 12:39:36 -0400 From: Nadyne Mielke Subject: Re: MULTI-CD SET?!?! It's due for release sometime this fall or winter. I doubt that we'll know much more about it for another couple of months. > And one more thing Many of my friends have Over the Pink and say it >is there favorite CD. What is your guys opinon and does anyone know where I >could get this CD if anyone knows! Thanks! "Over the Pink" is a bootleg, not an official release. It's a compilation of bee-sides from the UtP singles, and includes some that are very hard to find: Tori's covers of "If 6 Was 9", "Strange Fruit", and "A Case of You". It's good to have the bee-sides {although I'm personally not a big fan of the God remixes} in one place. Commercial bootlegs can be hard to find. Look for a small independent music store in your area, and they might have 'em. Ask for "imports", not bootlegs -- bootlegs are illegal, and most stores don't like you to say that word. You might just want to ask one of your friends with this boot if they'll make you a tape or CD copy if you pay for the blank tape/CD. There's no reason to pay US$20-$30 for a bootleg CD when you can get it from someone else for just the cost of the media. None of the money from a sale of a boot goes to Tori anyway. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 09:15:31 -0700 (PDT) From: "K. Fischer" Subject: E! Tori tour announcement On the website for the E! channel (www.eonline.com) they list Tori and Alanis' tour as one of their top stories for today. This usually means that they will mention it on their daily news show, so they will probably show a clip of Tori. The show airs at 7pm on the west coast, but I don't know what the schedule is on the east coast. This is not a show which airs at different times in different cities. The news clip on the website has a cute Tori promo photo. The one where she is peeking out of a basket. Karin Alanis, Tori Team for Lilith Lite by Marcus Errico April 26, 1999, 6:45 p.m. PT Call it Lilith Fair's li'l sister. Rock divas Alanis Morissette and Tori Amos are teaming up for a Lilith Fair-rivaling summer tour of their own. The 26-show swing, dubbed "The Five 1/2 Week Tour" will run for, you guessed it, five and a half weeks, beginning August 18 in Fort Lauderdale and ending September 25 in Irvine, California. "Bringing two visions together to make one show can be tricky," Amos said in a statement. "Obviously it takes a lot of mutual respect and a load of gear. With that in mind, Alanis and I are bringing two trucks just for ourselves: one filled with wine, the other filled with lip gloss." This tour marks the first sponsored by MP3.com, the Web's leading MP3 advocate and the recording industry's worst nightmare. None of the major record companies have ever embraced the format--which compacts music in easily downloadable, near-CD quality files--fearing easy piracy and lost profits. Just last month, Tom Petty released a single, Free Girl Now exclusively on MP3.com, but his label, Warner Bros., ordered it yanked. Like Petty, both Morissette and Amos record for Time Warner-controlled labels, and, although Alanis says she'll post concert performances on MP3.com, it remains unclear how her record company will react. (In the past, labels have allowed streaming audio snippets on the Net, but those clips lack the sound quality of regular MP3 files.) The dynamic duo of Alanis and Tori could help give MP3 a high-profile credibility boost. Best Buy will cosponsor the tour. The Morissette-Amos announcement Monday stole the limelight from Tuesday's Lilith Fair lineup unveiling. This summer, founder Sarah McLachlan is expected to be joined by, among others, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, the Indigo Girls and the Dixie Chicks for the third--and supposedly final--galapalooza. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 18:12:02 EDT From: Jethro1980@aol.com Subject: anyone going to... I can tell you how much an average round-trip ticket is from here {Atlanta} to various destinations, and I can tell you sale fares, but there's no way to give a general answer to that question. You have some options if you want to watch for good airfares to certain cities that Tori's playing at: * Find a good travel agent. Pick a few cities, and ask them to watch for sales for you. A good travel agent should be happy to do this for you -- after all, you're giving them your business. * Sign up with one of the many online travel services. I know that Expedia has a service that will email you if a sale fare pops up to a city you're interested in. I've also used Travelocity and BestFares to book cheap airfares. * Check out the websites of various airlines that service your area {don't forget discount carriers such as AirTran or Southwest}. They often offer Internet-only specials that you have to find out about online and order online {with a credit card [1]}. * Check out the travel section of your local newspaper, probably on Sunday. * This might sound weird, but start listening to your local talk radio station(s), including PBS and local college stations. Some of them have shows where they talk travel, and they may announce sale fares they've found [2]. >Second, do you think that Tori will have meet and greets at these concerts??? I dunno. Fan meet and greets were an absolute zoo on the last tour. The logistics of working that out -and- being on a co-headlining tour might be too much for her security. I doubt we'll know anything about this for quite awhile -- probably not until the beginning of the tour. /nad {gotta make sure Tori's FL and Atlanta dates don't conflict with the R.E.M. tour!} [1] NEVER EVER purchase an airline ticket with cash or cheque. What happens if the airline goes on strike or, worse, goes out of business? If you paid with cash/cheque {or debit card, they suck too}, your money's gone. If you paid with your credit card, all you have to do is call up your CC company, and you've got your money back. [2] In metro Atlanta, you want Clark Howard on 750AM. He announces sale fares he's found every day around 4:30pm, and does a two-hour show Friday afternoons all about travel. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 21:05:31 -0400 From: "Erin Lynch" Subject: Re: Lord of the Flies yeah, mine has that too, but I think it's actually a typo, rather than the correct word. Hi everyone, this is my first time writing. I've been a Tori fan ever since I heard the song God I remember the first thing that went through my mind was... ''This woman is a genius, plus she has guts'' I used to always say, that God hasen't come through for me in many ways. And I felt as if this woman was speaking to my insides. But, as you may all know, it's kind of difficult listening to a song like that (back then), without people judging you. I've learned to discard useless judgments. Tori Amos is a person that has paved a new way of life, when it comes to me. She does things that people have preconditioned to be wrong, or strange. She's like braking down walls, and making people say... ''Hey.. wait a minute.. mabye if I ... '' Okay, I can go on forever here...Bottom line? Tori is my saviour. She's taught me how to absorb ALL aspects of life, and to NOT cut yourself off, like she says. On to my question. I've been to 2 Tori concerts, both Plugged 98'. One was at Madison Square Garden, and One was in Florida when I was on Vacation, at the USF Sundome. My question is, How on EARTH do people get those seats which are way up front? Do you have to sleep outside the theatre, is it that kinda deal? Or do you have to have connections? ... Also, what time does Tori do those meet and greets? I've wanted to meet her for the past 5 years. I want to tell her that she's changed my life, and that I love her. Please get back to me people. Thanks. - -Gus Freedom110@aol.com ''Make me a day, make me whole again'' P.S. To anyone who knows, (in more detail, other that what I know) Tori's relationship with God, and Relegion. I know the basics, but I have some questions, and I am curious. Please e-mail if you feel like answering some questions. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 1999 20:19:29 -0400 (EDT) From: Richard Handal Subject: Tori to have tour material online Hello: This just came out at 6pm ET. BTW, you can go to MP3.com and register to be told when this new web site goes live, and I'm guessing you'll need to be registered to access it once it goes up. Be seeing you, Richard Handal, H.G. _____________________________________________________________________ http://rl.sonicnet.com/news/article1.jhtml;$sessionid$OLREC5IAADP35UID1AKCFEQ?index=4&_DARGS=%2Fnews%2Fnews_nav.jhtml.2&_DAV=4 Morissette, Amos To Post Songs Online In MP3.com Deal Tour partners will have tracks on new, comprehensive tour website. Staff Writer Chris Nelson and Contributing Editor Teri vanHorn report: LOS ANGELES -- Alanis Morissette's manager said Tuesday (April 27) he hopes the singer's groundbreaking alliance with the MP3.com website will ease music-industry fears about the near-CD-quality MP3 format and other methods of digital delivery. "What I'm hoping more than anything here is that it's going to let other artists, other managers and record companies know that this is something they shouldn't fear," Scott Welch said during a press conference announcing a partnership between his management company, Atlas/Third Rail, and MP3.com. "The burden's on us to illustrate that this is a good thing." -- Michael Robertson, MP3.com CEO [INLINE] "There's opportunity here, and our business needs a shot of opportunity," he said. Among the fruits of the deal, the sweetest for fans will be a new website offering music from both Morissette and Tori Amos, who will tour together in August and September. MP3.com and Best Buy are sponsoring the "5 1/2 Weeks Tour." The still-to-be-launched site will include songs from both singers in addition to concert webcasts, interviews, chats and tour photos. It's undecided at this point whether Morissette's cut will be a live track or a B-side. Amos' song will be an unreleased track, possibly taken from the double CD (featuring one live disc and one studio disc) she plans to release in the fall. The songs are scheduled to be posted at the new site in the next few weeks, Welch said. Although the format for the tracks was not revealed at the press conference, they will be transmitted in streaming mode, meaning they can be listened to but not downloaded, according to MP3.com spokesperson Hal Bringman. MP3.com CEO Michael Robertson said the partnership will be scrutinized by an industry heretofore wary of his site because of its unflagging support for the MP3 format. "The burden's on us to illustrate that this is a good thing for fans, it's a good thing for artists, it's a good thing for CD sales and it's a good thing for concert ticket sales," Robertson said. Until recently, the five major music-label groups -- Time Warner, Universal, Sony, EMI and BMG -- have been reluctant to embrace the near-CD-quality MP3 format. The chief complaint has been that the format does not include copyright security measures to prevent piracy. By streaming the content -- even in MP3 format, which is a possibility -- the partners hope to thwart unauthorized copying. Streaming also helps to skirt a Warner Music Group policy of forbidding downloads longer than 30 seconds. Morissette, who won two Grammys in February for her song "Uninvited" (RealAudio excerpt), records for Time Warner's Maverick imprint; Amos records for the company's Atlantic division. Creating a new website for the partnership will ensure that Warner does not place content on the MP3.com site, although there will be a link to the tour page from MP3.com. "The music world and the technical world haven't really intersected that much, and this is part of the process, this trust-building relationship," Robertson said. "We thought the best thing to do was to have everyone contribute to [a common site], so the artists still have creative control over the website." When Warner artist Tom Petty posted his single "Free Girl Now" in MP3 format at MP3.com in March, the track was downloaded 157,000 times. But it was pulled from the site after just two days. It has never been clear who ordered its removal Atlas/Third Rail also manages the Goo Goo Dolls, Green Day, Seal, Luscious Jackson, Weezer, Jude and Savage Garden. Welch said although those artists have expressed interest in similar promotional deals, nothing had been finalized. "We'll go through this day by day," he said. "Marketing Green Day is different from marketing Alanis Morissette." More announcements are expected in coming weeks, Welch said. Amos' manager, Arthur Spivak, said he spoke with the singer about the MP3.com promotion on Tuesday. He said the online venture is exciting for Amos, who is in England working on the double album and who has a dedicated, tech-savvy fanbase. "This is how fans communicate," he said. "This is really an exciting time for her and Alanis." [ Tues., April 27, 1999 5:58 PM EDT ] Copyright (c) 1999 SonicNet, Inc. All rights reserved.
