I'm quite excited, since I've never seen her live before. I love a lot of her stuff... my bf introduced me to her and I've been in awe ever since. Of course, she's not Tori, but noone else comes close either. ;) I was talking to someone and he said that it would be cool to have Liz open for Tori, actually. Does anyone agree? I thought it was a rather cool idea, because while they are the same in some ways, they are different in a lot of ways as well. I think it would be interesting. I'm really really looking forward to this tour, so it had better happen. I'm serious- if it doesn't I'm going to be kinda crushed. But at least there will be a new album to look forward to. - -=Ray=- - "Most people would rather be sheep and have company than stand out on their own with antlers on." -Tori Amos "Don't blame it on me, blame it on my wild heart." -Stevie Nicks "All Hail the Mighty Cow" ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Apr 1999 20:32:04 -0700 From: violet@torithoughts.org Subject: Re: Tori's Opening Acts >Has Tori ever had a female opening act? Willie was replaced by Joshua in the late summer (of '96). >did Tori have an opening act on the LE tour? I seriously >doubt it, but I could be totally wrong. Yes, she did. Several. The first part of the LE tour was in small clubs and I believe she had a different (local) performer open for each city. Here in San Francisco in May of '92, it was a very unremarkable guy who strummed the guitar and sang songs that didn't stand out at all. I couldn't remember his name to save my life. He wasn't listed on the adverts. I still have mine and nope, he's not on it. The opening acts aren't listed on any of the ticket stubs either, and I've not been able to find any other local fans who went to that May '92 show. I'm sure they're around, but I've never met up with any. So this fellow's name may be list to history (did somebody say Tori?) forever. Just for the interest, there was absolutely no merchandise sold at the shows in early '92. None. They were very small, intimate shows. I remember buying tickets. *I WAS THE ONLY PERSON IN LINE*. God, those were the days. I like to tell the story about the first words I ever heard out of Tori's mouth: "Fuck off." It was a press showcase. She came out onstage, sat down, started to play "Little Earthquakes," and some goober sitting at the table next to me called out "Play 'Crucify'!" So Tori stopped, gave him a piercing glare, and without missing a beat, said, "Fuck off, I just started." And she began LE again, the crowd cheering. In the fall of that same year, it was A Man Called E (E's current group is the Eels). They were really funny and had the crowd in stitches. I don't know if she played with E in more than one city, but that's who she played with in SF. UtP was Bill Miller (and his sidekick, Yanni). ;) Did Bill leave partway through that tour? For some reason, I'm thinking he did, but I'm too lazy to check. You guys probably all know the people on the Plugged tour, so I won't mention them. I agree Alanis is more popular, but every Tori concert I have been to is either sold out or close to it. And I have a feeling it might be in outdoors venues. Because I saw her in an outdoor venue (well half was outdoors) and she kept saying how she was inspired by nature and I have seen her 3 times and that was her BEST concert. In continuation to what Mike Gray posted recently about the Jackie single's release in the UK - it looks set to finally happen here, but (and it is a big BUT) the single will only appear in the shops on July 19th, according to EastWest's press office. There IS a slight chance that it may happen sooner, but it looks likely that the release will not occur before July. The press officer said that because it is still classed as a 'forthcoming' release only, they are uncertain about the formats and tracklists. All we can do is wait. It's odd, because if it does happen in July it will be about a year after the original release date for Jackie in the UK, which was 29th of June 1998!!!!! That's why everyone is touring. I think that this tour is a good idea. It could be fun. I saw Alanis about a month ago, in St. Louis. She seemed to be enjoying what she was doing more so than most artists do. I just think someone needs to tell that girl she doesn't need to do EVERY single...she's allowed to skip a couple of the famous ones. But it was really, really enjoyable. I can see Tori mixed in with that. I've seen Tori in a theatre, a venue where you stand up, and an open arena...and although I think the worst is the open arena, I think we should all count our lucky stars that she's touring again. It was just a song on the radio! =) Anyways... I just had to jump on the bandwagon of "tour talk" here before the flame war starts and the list guy cuts it off! =) I like Tori. I don't care much for Alanis. I love Tori's music. I like Alanis's music. It's not the greatest music I've ever heard, but her lyrics are quite fitting on me for some reason. (Tori's lyrics are still the best though... those are the gut-wrenching ones that get you thinking AND feeling!) I suppose I'd go see Alanis on tour... if I won the tickets or if someone gave 'em to me. I wouldn't go because I felt the need to see her. On the flipside... I could care less who Tori toured with. I'd go, just to see her. Yep... been a fan since '92, but I've only seen her in concert once, last Halloween in West Lafayette on the Plugged Tour. Not my fault! Christ - as if I'd be able to take my mother to a concert when I was like 12/13! Anyways... I don't give a shit who she's with... it could be Marilyn Manson (like *some* of his music, but i seriously doubt if i could stand watching him that long!)... or even if it was some stupid country band like Alabamba (sorry but I HATE country), I'd still go. Why? Because it's Tori!!! And no matter where she plays or who she plays with... it won't change her or her music and it'd still be worthing see. So to make a long story short... I have no beef if this Tori/Alanis Alanis/Tori thing happens. The only thing I'm pissed about is the whole ticket situation. Damn I thought it was hard getting tickets before... well damn, if she hooks up with Alanis... not only am I gonna have to deal with the groupy EWF, but I'm also gonna have to fight with the groupy... umm what are Alanis fans called? Anyways... that's the only bad thing I can see from this whole deal. And whoever stated the thing with the Garbage record sales increasing after going on tour with Alanis... it's true. So who knows! Promise me a ticket and I'll be fine with the whole Alanis and Tori thing. =) heheh Wait... I 'm sorry... I forgot! I'm in Indiana. NO ONE EVER TOURS TO INDIANA!!!
