Where do these songs come from? "Merman" isn't available on any CD. When ftch was originally released, if you pre-ordered it from Tower Records, you got a little code to download this song. Thankfully, Atlantic et al made it available to the general public near the Grammies. Check out to download the song and the silly little player you need to get it. "If 6 Was 9" is available on the UK "Cornflake Girl" limited edition single. This is very hard to find, and goes for US$60 and up. This single also has "Strange Fruit" and "A Case of You". Only "A Case of You" is available elsewhere {on "More Pink"}. "Humpty Dumpty" is a LE-era bee-side, available on the UK China release. This is pretty hard to find, and the CD goes for US$50 or so these days. Someone reported awhile ago that "Humpty Dumpty" was re-released on a children's compilation last year, but I can't recall details right now. "Here. In My Head" is another LE-era bee-side, and it's available on the UK Crucify release. This is pretty hard to find, and goes for around US$30 the last I paid any attention to it. This song is also available on the Australian "More Pink" release, which I -highly- recommend picking up. "Flying Dutchman" is also LE-era, and it's also on the UK China release. It's also on "More Pink". "More Pink" is a special Australian 2-disc release of UtP. The first disc is UtP, and the second disc is a collection of bee-sides. You can order it directly from Australia, and it'll cost you less than trying to find it in the US. Check out and . Remember that these are Australian websites, so the prices given are in Australian dollars. Divide by 1.5 to get a - -rough- estimate of what it'll cost you in US$. {Use your credit card to order, and they'll do the conversion for you, and give you the best rate for it.} These songs are also available on some bootlegs. The UtP-era bee-sides are on "Over the Pink", and the LE ones are on "Precious Little Rarities". A single CD bootleg will cost you $20-$20, and a double will cost you $40-$60. You may also want to ask around and see if someone would be willing to make you copies of these songs [1] -- that'll certainly be cheaper than trying to find the original singles or digging up the bootlegs yourself. /nad [1] Please note: I don't normally support someone making copies of bee-sides, but I do make exceptions for bee-sides that are so commonly available. All the BfP and ftch bee-sides are still commonly available, but many of the earlier ones aren't. I see no reason for someone to pay all sorts of money for the singles {since Tori doesn't get any of the money for it anyway}. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 01:39:36 EDT From: LaMorenaCA@aol.com Subject: Re: Summer Tour w/Alanis In a message dated 4/17/99 8:26:19 PM Pacific Daylight Time, baden3@TCNJ.EDU writes: << The Dent says Tori will do a five week tour in late summer with Alanis Morisette. although i'm not too thrilled about this, i'm sure many of you are. it's in the new issue of Rolling Stone. >> i have to say that i agree with this disappointment. i saw alanis and garbage on april fool's day in san jose and i was very disappointed. garbage rocked!! but, alanis totally fell below my expectations. i just hope that if this tour thing is true and they are touring together, that tori is the main act. if it's the other way around, i'm out after tori's set. - -dorena ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 19:11:48 +0200 From: Natalie Waag Subject: (no subject) Hi! But be warned...it's kinda dark and eerie where we're going. I'm assuming (I know, sometimes a big mistake) that Tori has a vast array of reference material, which she draws from at will, to express very complex ideas in a very concise way. Here we go: "the Lord of the Flies was diagnosed as sound" - let's start our journey here. I'm not sure if you're familiar with this novel, its symbolism, themes, etc. And to be honest, I'm not that familiar with it myself. So.....I did a little search and came up with some interesting, possibly conflicting theological concepts. Okay.....now, in the novel, the Lord of the Flies seems to represent the Devil/evil, what have you that exists outside of us, while the Beast seems to represent the evil present inside each of us. Biblically, particularly in Exodus, there is reference to the Lord and his use of the flies against the Pharoah and Egyptians - the evil ones - hence it almost seems *He* is Lord of the Flies? And, at least as far as the Bible is concerned, He is the good guy. Okay.....so.....going with that particular lyric, we can either assume Tori is defining sound (music?) as good or evil. Or something else entirely. Or maybe I should just go shampoo my hair. Please give me your thoughts....I have lots more spinning around in my un-shampooed head, but I'll stop here for now....see where you all would like to go with this....and maybe add more later. My first impulse when I heard was "No! I won't go! Alanis??? What jerkoff is *forcing* Tori into such a thing???" But Tori isn't being *forced*, (maybe bribed or coerced) and it is an extra bonus to see Tori years before I thought she'd be back on the road. "Jagged Little Pill" wasn't bad. I didn't play it obsessively, but then again, I only play Tori obsessively. Her videos were ok, the lyrics weren't bad and I could get behind the angry grrl sentiment. But pay to see her in concert? Hey, if I was given her new album, I'd play it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to spend money on Alanis. She's ok. Like Jewel is ok. Like Natilie is ok. I'm not a big "grrl" groupie. I was pushed over the edge when I heard the original version on the radio while driving & having recalled the recent request for it's lyrics on this very newsgroup, I thought someone was trying to tell me something, so I went to the store and got the song, errr, umm, I mean the CD. So I notice that it was labeled as an Enhanced CD & it said something on the back about a bonus video in the enhancement. So I was like "Cool, I'll pop it in & watch Melissa Etheridge, Blues Traveler, or someone, (thinking, crossing my fingers, that I possibly had a 1 in 13 chance of it actually being Tori, if they were to highlight one of the artists whose track appears on the album.) Kisses, Erin ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 16:35:21 -0500 From: devoted@garbage.com Subject: the tori/alanis tour here's my opinion. i stand behind another's words on this, because basicly, he said it way better than i could describe my feelings. on the mtv show "ultrasound: the toriphiles", right at the end of the show, this cute guy basicly says (im paraphrasing here) "i dont care how big tori gets. if she plays on the moon, i'll go watch her on the moon" this is so true for me. if tori played on the moon, i'd go watch. in a farm? be there in a second. with mariah carey on a stage in a mall in texas? you bet. a nice club in seatlle with cushie seats with a best friend and a sweater? why wouldn't i? besides the fact that alains morissette may be there. if it's tori, im not bothered by the surrounding details. my veiws in morissette aren't strong either way. i liked jagged little pill, and yea im a bit annoyed by her new stuff, but she'd not like, horrible or anything. maybe it's atlantic's way of getting new tori fans. i mean, there was GREAT boost in garbage's Version 2.0 sales after the Alanis/Garbage tour, who says it wouldn't do the same for Tori? Maybe that's the reasoning behind the whole thing. other wise, I am just *SO PSYCHED* that she's going to have a whole new CD of new material out!! Not to mention a few dozen live tracks, now what could be better?? :) ja.ma.ta.nay! - -courtney (you could call me obbsessed, a toriphile if you will.) http://fly.to/januarygirl devoted@garbage.com _________ as you can see i have a lot to say~ - ------------------------------- To get your free email account, go to: http://www.garbagemail.com Garbage Merchandise Now Avalailable Online at http://www.garbage.com Garbage Mail is a service of Electric Artists and OneSoft. - ------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Apr 1999 12:40:32 -0400 From: becky Subject: Re: Dew Drop Inn and Skriker Hello. I wrote a response to the whole schizophrenic discussion and I was the director that glytter girl was talking about. "The Skriker" is a brilliant play written by Caryl Churchill. If you ever get a chance to see it, please do. It's in the avante garde frame of mind. The Skriker is a faerie queen living in the Underworld. She is dying and needs the human side of the world to help become immortal. They need her, as well. It deals with female relationships, death, fantasy, and other interesting things. I gave Tori a copy of it at Saint Andrews. I hope she read it because it would be right up her alley. It's a little difficult to comprehend, but that's not a bad thing. Well, I hope this helps you out. If you have any more questions regarding this show, feel free to ask me. This is perhaps one of the rudest comments I've heard on this list in a while. I'm really disappointed. It's extremely bad form to comment on the depths of someone's fandom. This matter has been brought up before, but a person can be a fan of Tori without owning EVERY album, every single and every bootleg known to man. Hell, someone who just heard Spark on the radio and fell in love can be just as much a fan as a jaded person who runs out and blows all of their money on Tori. Please consider what you're saying before imposing such harsh criticisms on another person. Instead of making HIM look bad, you've made yourself out to be a kook. Today it can be seen in diverse of acts such as Bob Dylan and Natalie Merchant. No one is opening for the other. If Tori plays first, no one misses the encores to catch the after m&g. If Tori plays last, maybe all the alanis fans will split for the stage door, leaving room for us Tori fans. :) At 02:24 PM 4/18/99 -0700, Shirley Ye wrote: > >I'm speculating who will perform _first_/"open" and who will perform >2nd/"main"... OK, I've been reading everyone's thoughts about this upcoming tour thing. what I am really wondering about, and others have mentioned this, is who is gonna headline. now, I have a feeling that if its not a co-headline kinda thing Alanis will be the headliner. I think that in general Alanis has a wider fan base and many more kinda incidental fans who are willing to go see her. it seems, and this is only an opinion, that Tori fans either really really really like her, really really like her, really like her, and like her, there aren't many floating around, that I can see, that can take her or leave her, but would still be willing to go to a show. anyway, if Tori is only going to be opening, and playing a shorter set than usual, and if a show isnt really close by, I wont be going, unless (and I'm pretty sure this is just my dreaming a little dream) she takes only her piano and does only b-sides. So, I'd really like to know what you all think about this, I mean I'd be willing to see Alanis, but I don't think I'd be willing to travel any sort of distance unless I was gonna get the same amount of Tori. hope this makes sense, and I'd like to hear anyone's thoughts, on the list or otherwise.
