Well, I just went to YAHOO! and searched for Chicago radio stations, and found out that WKQX (known as Q101) is having a jamboree, and it's on May 22, and indeed, the $35 tickets are set to go on sale next Saturday. However, here is the complete line-up listed on their web site: http://www.q101.com/index.htm Q101's Jamboree '99 Saturday May 22nd., 1PM at the New World Music Theatre. Featuring: Hole Red Hot Chili Peppers Blondie Silverchair Local H Orgy Kottonmouth Kings 2 Skinnee J's The Flys Puya Lit The Offspring Now Added...Blink 182 I see neither Tori nor Green Day listed there. Rob, is it possible that your brother heard some things about more than once concert and got them mixed in together in his head? Frankly, as far as I can determine, there's basically no way Tori is playing a date as soon as May 22, let alone that jamboree. I'm anticipating some details about a tour later this summer to be released soon--and from what I understand, there is going to have to be a bit of back-pedalling from some just-published reports due to changes in plans made since a number of weeks ago when these reports went to press. Rob, anything you can get out of your brother to add to any of this will be most welcome here. I'm looking forward to your asking him to try to shed some light on what he told you. Thanks for the heads-up, though. I came across it about 2 years ago from a friend who wasn't really into Tori, but had it on a home made bootleg from a friend of a friend who had his own studio somewhere in Florida, and enjoyed adding guitar and symphonics to songs in his home. So of course when I heard about this mix I got a copy on CD made. And from there I guess it's history, because I did a lot of trades and offered fillers for copies of boots I made and it seems like everyone picked that mix as one of their fillers. I think from there it just kind of floated around, so just to be fair I thought I'd speak up to say that the original artist is anonymous and we really don't' know, but isn't it great!!!! It's really been amazing for me," she'll know exactly how you feel. And at that point, a big hug from her with tears in her eyes is more than likely. I know it means a lot to her to get such feedback from people, and it's actually possible to get something that short and simple across to her at a meet and greet, and probably even without totally breaking down. And I do wish that anyone who feels strongly about meeting Tori could get the chance. Folks may be prepared to meet a goddess or an idol, but they'll probably be struck by how much she is another human being than she is any of that. And I think that's cool--finding out that Tori is human is cool. And I have 4 of them that I got for free -- they were sitting on the cash register (like promos should be) at the record store and I got a few of them of course. I also think its ridiculous to spend so much money on a CD. The only reason I would pay anything above normal price is to get a song that I don't already own and I would Never pay $50 for a single! Oh and I live in the US - albeit in miami where we can find alot more Tori stuff than the average person. I have been contemplating buying the UTP with the More Pink CD which I originally bought for $25 in a local record store during the time when it was released (and they had at least 5 of them!!!) and subsequently lent to a friend who lost it. But now I can't find it for under $50 and I have a really hard time paying that much for something that I know is only worth (monetarily) $25. And I haven't yet. I really don't understand how people can or will pay this much either - just the other day I decided to look at the prices and stuff on ebay and I was astounded to see people paying $60 or $70 for singles that are hard to find and $15 or so for singles that I can get easily at a store for $3 to $9. I have never understood this. So it's not ALL americans, its probably wrong to generalize by country anyway -- I'm sure there are people in Europe who will pay high prices also -- its more of a combination of a certain personality type + a location which makes finding rare tori stuff virtually impossible, which can be some places in any country. kisses, ~* joanne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Apr 1999 20:23:50 EDT From: VenusFruit@aol.com Subject: Lyrics Hi! The reason I waited so long is because I heard that it was more or less 'Tori goes techno', and although this is not the whole truth, I must say that it is by far her worst album to date. I am not being harsh or cruel, I think Boys For Pele goes down in my own personal favorite musical albums (one that has affected me emotionally still to this day when I hear certain songs) of all time...which is maybe why I just HATE this album..comparing it to her previous efforts. Anyone else feel close to this way? >> OK well first of all let me get my bitch comment out right away - a rather big fan of Tori Amos would have bought the album the week it came out. I was got it at exactly 12:15 AM the day it came out without anyone telling me what it sounded like. I had heard a few songs and they played the whole CD while we were waiting for to turn 12. Now regardless of that, I will give you the benifit of the doubt, maybe you didn't have the money or maybe you were afraid of tarnishing your view of Tori. This album is very different from her others and I can see why someone who is only into her previous kind of music and no other types of music can say that they don't really like the new sound. You say that BFP is your favorite, I usually hear this from the LE favorite people. To me BFP and FTCgH are very similar in their passion, sound and that Tori began to expand her musical horizons on BFP and took it to another level on FTCgH. There are a few songs on FTCgH that I wish tori had never done (Raspberry Swirl and She's Your Cocaine) but that is true with all of her albums except LE. My favorite by the way is UTP. There is one thing that you must understand about this new album -- it is not meant to appeal to us . . . we already bought it - you a bit late :) just because it's Tori. This album was trying to appeal to a new crowd of people and from what I have seen it worked to some degree. For example, I know alot of people who thought Tori was OK, never bought an album, just heard it through me-- who absolutely looooove FTCgH and went out and bought it after hearing it through me. Yes it was surprising to me, since I don't think this is her best work, I still love it though don't get me wrong. There are some songs which just kill me though - LIquid Diamonds is my favorite and seeing her and the band perform these songs live is simply amazing (I'm assuming that you didn't see her this tour since you seemed to be hearing this stuff for the first time recently) and the new versions with the band of some of the songs like Precious Things are incredible. What I suggest to you is to put the album aside for now, don't give it much thought and one day come back to it and the songs will find their way to you. This has happened to me countless times and it never fails that six months, a year from now it will haunt you and you will hear the songs and they will sound completely different from the first few times when you hated them. And the Tori goes Techno thing has been blown out of proportion -- only RS -- the weakest song in my opinion -- is the only semblance of techno and not really at that. The ghastly BFP era remixes are more Techno than this. FTCgH is more like Tori goes ROCK! kisses, ~* joanne ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Apr 1999 14:05:52 PDT From: "Luna 17" Subject: Re: Muhammad from stephanie: when she >says "And what about the deal, on the flying trapezee (sp?) got a peanut >butter hand. but, honey, do drop in at the Dew Drop Inn." is she referring to >the Dew Drop Inn mentioned in To Kill a Mockingbird ? just a thought something that occurred to me a while back was that the mention of the Dew Drop Inn was in reference to there being no room at the inn for Mary and Joseph...but I don't know...it kinda makes sense as her embracing all parts of herself so that she can finally accept the background she had as a child... _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. I'm planning to write a rather lengthy paper examining the connection between pain (in an artist's life) and the act of creation as therapy. I know there are hundreds of interviews out there, and if anyone can remember any off the top of their heads interviews where Tori talked directly (or indirectly -- I can compromise) about writing music (ie: MAAG, etc.) as therapy for herself, or even has any insights on the topic whatsoever, it would be greatly appreciated.
