Actually, she has been asked what she uses to dye her hair now. In the Yahoo! chat {from about a year ago}, she refused to answer, and made a comment to the effect of "you'll next be wanting to know what thigh cream I use". If you -really- want Tori red, you'll have to go to a salon (or a professional beauty supply company, such as Sally's) and ask for some help. You can't use one of the formulas she's used and expect the same results: so much depends on your natural hair color, what condition your hair is in, etc. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 09 Mar 1999 00:11:35 -0800 From: jackie lea Subject: songs, hair dyeing and mp3's my hair is dark brown and very long... someday i would like to cut it and dye it bright, bright, fire red. not like crayon red, of course. fire-color. *smile* - --- does anyone have any mp3 information on tori songs? i don't even know where to start. i'd like to hear some of the stuff i've never been able to get my hands on. on second thoughts, i'd like to hear some of the stuff you people *have* been able to get /your/ hands on, that i have not. here's what i own currently (All CD's) : Little Earthquakes, Under the Pink, Boys for Pele, >From the Choirgirl Hotel - -- smaller CD's, EP's, and 'singles': - -- Winter "limited edition" (ha!) There really are others that are much better and more advanced (read: pleasant).<< I don't know where you get your hair dye from but I have not seen many fabulous red shades!! The one that I truly truly loved was Rubine from Manic Panic which they don't make anymore not to mention the fact that about 3 years ago the quality of manic panic seriously declined (if you're using or just want to know - ask me and I'll tell you the horror story). Other than that I have yet to find another red shade that didn't leave my hair too orange or eventually too dark. I tried feria and although I liked the highlights that stayed around for a week the color selection is meager at best with like two reds and most of them being brown based anyways. I don't see what is wrong with the torrid collection - I used it for a while and it was pretty good (still a bit orange for me). I truly do not see why you would say that feria or wella would be less harmful to your hair than torrids - its all the same thing just in different colors! The only difference in damage would be if you use Hydrience (which does have 2-3 nice red colors, one of which I used up until recently when it started coming out too dark) or a semi-permanent dye <--- of which you can get much better red colors (if you are of my persuasion of totally outrageous, unnatural red reds) such as manic panic which comes in a wide variety of reds and actually conditions your hair. okay I think thats enough for now except to tell you all that I will soon be undertaking a bleaching job (done by myself) to make my hair even redder - I don't know what I'm gonna use yet though - maybe I'll try manic panic again, but I doubt it - since thats a constant battle - I used to bleach and dye my hair every two weeks! happy red hunting! ~~* joanne ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Mar 1999 23:38:16 -0000 From: "Paul Wren" Subject: Promo. booklet transcript If you don't have a copy of the Promo. booklet that was available with early releases of the video collection I have transcribed the stories and put them on my web site. The one that I truly truly loved was Rubine from >>Manic Panic which they don't make anymore I get all my hair color from beauty supply stores. If you used to use Manic Panic, try Clairol's Jazzing or Ardell's Lights & Brights. These come in some pretty eye-poppingly unnatural colors (reds, oranges, pinks, blues, purples, greens, etc.) and go on over your existing color, coating the shaft with bright transparent color. You can also use them on bleached hair for greater effect, but the majorly cool thing about these products is that (unlike Manic Panic) you don't HAVE to bleach first for the color to be obvious. (Although the darkness of the hair will affect the darkness of the end color, meaning that bright pink will look bright pink on a blonde, but will be deep magenta on a brunette.) It's sort of like putting a stained-glass layer on your hair. I mostly use L&B's "Plum Rose" and Jazzing's "Fuchsia Plum" or "Racy Wine". Sometimes I put them over just-colored hair, sometimes I use them by themselves after my haircolor has faded, and my hair comes out a pretty obvious violet-pink/magenta. These products need to be heat-processed for longest-lasting results, but can be used without heat for shorter-term results. They are also extremely good for your hair, sealing the shaft and making it very shiny. If you've used Manic Panic in the past, you are used to dealing with staining, but for folks who haven't, I will warn that both of the above mentioned products stain like there's no tomorrow, so if you're not used to using anything like them, have a professional do your hair. Or use plenty of Vaseline around your neckline, wear old clothes, use good gloves and a color brush (not a bottle applicator), and have plenty of rolled cotton handy for your hairline after you put the cap on. If you don't want to go through all of that, 1-2 capfuls of Lights & Brights can also be added to permanent tints to "boost" them. I do this sometimes when I don't have the time or patience to sit under the heat cap for an hour. It gives me a little more "oomph" than just my regular color by itself. >I truly do not see why you would say that feria or wella would be less >>harmful to your hair than torrids - its all the same thing just in >>different colors! I didn't say that. I said that the Torrids smell terrible and that I don't understand why anyone would go for the smelly product when there are other brands on the market sans extreme stink these days. When you colored your hair wenty years ago, you had no choice but to be engulfed in smelly amonia with your eyes tearing and scalp burning, praying for the time to be up. That's not the case today, yet whenever I use the Torrids, I feel like I'm right back in 1977. I realise it is a personal preference, but I simply don't enjoy using the Torrids at all. Another problem is staining. Some brands stain much worse than others. The only brand I've ever found that didn't leave my scalp stained for days afterwards is Wella's Color Charm, which is why I stick with it. As for the color... Last summer, in the hecticness of the weeks before my local Tori concerts, I hadn't had time to use Jazzing or Lights & Brights and had just used my regular Color Charm shade by itself. When I saw Tori at one of the M&Gs, after she had moved on to the next folks in line she went out of her way to yell back to me that my hair color was "really fabulous" and she loved it. Over the years, Tori has seen me with a whole variety of colors -- including deep purple, blue, and pink -- and never commented one way or the other on those, so.... Anyways, at this M&G, a very tall friend of mine happened to snap a photo of the top of my head (!) and I'd be happy to send a JPEG to anyone who wants to see an example of one of the great red shades you can get from Color Charm. Using Jazzing or L&Bs over the Color Charm makes the color even more spectacular. Even when I'm walking down the street in Berkeley, where it only takes about two seconds before every hair color under the sun parades past, strangers stop me and ask me what I use. While in the huge arenas during the recent tour, I was stunned when Toriphiles who barely knew me or what I looked like kept managing to find me in crowds of thousands just by looking for my hair. :) I've use Color Charm for the past six years, making occasional side trips to use new products and always going back after the other products were disappointing. I have also never been able to find any other brand that gives me the red shades I've gotten with Color Charm. I swear by it.
