The multi-track single, which hits the streets on February 23rd, features seven unique versions of "Jackie's Strength" from remix master Warren Rigg. Also included are two remixed versions of "BOYS FOR PELE" track "Father Lucifer," courtesy of the celebrated King Britt (of Digable Planets and SYLK 130) and his collaborator John Wicks. http://www.atlantic-records.com/tori_amos http://www.tori.com Just in case you hadn't heard any of the above before- Cynthia Glass http://www.angelfire.com/il/glassasylum "Oh you never would believe where those Keebler Cookies come from..." - anonymous voice ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Feb 1999 12:23:10 +0100 From: "spark" Subject: To Soraya Quiroga Thanks for "Raspberry swirl" explanation.I knew what margerita is since I was 5 years old ,but I couldn't possibly know what, the hell,"RS"is and have to do with margeritas. I have to say I am in total agreement with your statments about letting the music wash over you and not analysing it too deeply. As a male fan of Tori I think that that's the best we men can do sometimes. I think the girls relate a lot more to the content of the lyrics than we do. There are things in there that we just could never understand. I've listened to Tori's music since 1991 and although I've expressed a lot of interest in understanding the songs and exchanged ideas with others I'm rapidly coming to the conclusion that I'm never going to really know what was in her mind when she wrote some of these words. None of us ever will know. It's the beauty of the combination of her voice, the piano and the expression that she puts into it every time (especially live) that makes her music simply irresistable. I've long been a believer in the idea that music should just be accepted for what it is... if it makes you feel something when you hear it then it has done it's job. You don't necessarily have to 'understand' it to enjoy it. Many of Tori's songs bring me to tears when I listen to them. I don't know why. That's the strangest thing. I read the words and they don't make sense but when she sings them and you feel the passion in her voice you know it means something to her. They come alive, literally. They are living, breathing 'girls' as she calls them. Now.. all of you guys out there know how difficult it is to understand girls don't we ;-) As to your questions about the teaching of music in schools these days... well, I am in the UK and I know my kids get a very basic grounding in music theory but it isn't enough. Both my kids are learning to read music and to play instruments in extra classes (One plays the violin and the other has just started the Clarinet). I really want them to be able to participate in this wonderful global language. I know a little music theory but I don't play any instruments competently (unless you count a bit of folk guitar and very bad singing :o) ). We have an electronic keyboard connected to the PC and I use some music notation software to enter sheet music for the kids to practise. I also download a lot of Tori songs in MIDI format and I find it fascinatinng to watch the notes as they play on the screen. To see the time signature changes, the shifts and pauses and little fluctuations... it adds a new dimension to enjoying the music. A visual impression. Music is a the most wonderful language that the human race has ever developed. We should all learn to speak it... maybe it would solve a lot of the worlds problems. Virjinia Glück not only likes Tori but steals *everything* from her. Here's an example of her theft ... These are part of the lyrics to "her" song "A Toast in White". In the booklet it says that Lyrics & Music were composed by v.glück. :-D (...) "even without speaking I hear my voice and churches are burning in my heart I take a deep breath and I say goodbye, goodbye to this imposter within yes, you can make me confess, but that doesn't make you a saviour" (...) I put a couple other examples on my site, the complete lyrics to the song, a soundclip and the CD cover. If you are going to listen to "her" song, you should know that Virjinia's voice is *very* annoying *and* the fact that she shamelessly stole from Tori is even more annoying. Please be warned :-) I have to make a translation to one of the reviews of her CD that my friend Tonya found on the web.... They mention Kate Bush, and J.R.R Tolkien... (you know both have been mentioned in Tori interviews) the funny thing is that they don't mention Tori... As Cynthia from Colombia said: "she must have paid them well to write that review :-)" besos laura                \\|//                (O-O) - ----------oOO--(_)--OOo------------------------------------------------- ldamico@adinet.com.uy (at home) laura@redfacil.com.uy (at work) http://www.geocities.com/hollywood/lot/3373/index.html ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Feb 1999 11:25:23 -0800 From: Mireya Subject: Storytellers re-airing schedule I'm sorry if this has been mentioned already.... The concert sounded SPECTACULAR, so I wasn't sure if it could be true, but at one point (I forget during which song, sorry guys) Tori appears to be drinking a tea of some sort. We thought maybe she might have been a little sick or something, even though you couldn't tell it while she was singing. And we all know tea and honey does WONDERS for the sore throat. =) Anyhow, just my $.02 conjecture... anyone think this is possible, or is that just a Long Island Iced Tea in Tori's hand? ;) By the way Freddie, nice Ani quote in your sig. - --Ray-- "I've found the secret to life, I'm okay when everything is not okay" -Tori Amos ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Feb 1999 00:00:23 +0100 From: "spark" Subject: Re:Re:tori and trent Hi! I read you interp. about tori and trent's relationship (if we can call it that) ,and for some things I think you're right, for some I just don't know but something came across my mind when you mentioned the line: "and I thought I wouldn't have to be with you a magazine" in HJ.Now ,I don't have my BfP CD right now with me but I'm pretty positive about her saying on the song "and I thought I wouldn't have to choose between you and magazines"instead, so if she really said that I think this have nothing to do about Eric being sensitive about tori or anyone else talking 'bout their personal things in press, but I think that line refers to Tori's loneliness after the split up-so she had to have sex alone ,and the way of doing that is masturbation(naturally),and "magazines"are ,so called, "dirty magazines("Playgirl and stuff like that),but the thing is -that's not a masturbation by which you, actually, please yourself ,but it's the one that reminds you that you're alone and pointing you how much you miss the bare PRESENCE of your lover that you got so used to you've "never thought" you'll ever be apart from, especially in thing like this (sex) ,so I think that in this situation masturbation means loneliness;someone you need is not here and the song is about suddenly finding out that you're alone ,there's no"boots to leave mess" or "writtings in the wall",you feel how something is missing("boys on my left side, boys on my right side-but you're not here") and the chorus is the most loneliest, melancholic expresion of moan and weep I've ever heard-with It's crushing guitar bells and Tori just singing a melody cause no words can't describe what she feels right now. The lines: "and this little masochist is lifting up her dress" are the ones I feel support this theory I've told you. It's just Tori talking 'bout herself in third person, cause its easier to critisise yourself like it is somebody else("all the things SHE could feel;guess i could never feel the things I feel").If you watch "Fallen Angels" ,a Wong Kar Wai's movie(1996),you will see a scene where this girl masturbates and crying at the same time. It's the most erotic scene I've ever seen ,but also the saddest one, where emotions are so damn hard,I start to cry every time i see it (It has Laurie Anderson in the background, talking about a hermeticque atmosphere of solitude) - -it has the same emotions like Hey Jupiter(and it's my favourite movie of all, if you get a chance to watch it ,I strongly recomend it-It's increadibly poetic;the only movie that is comparable to it is Wim Wenders's" Wings Of Desire"). Anyway, that's what I'm getting out of it. BTW,here's how I would interpretate the lines "no one's picking up the phone guees it's me and me and this little masochist is ready..." It's like, the phone is ringing and she's not picking it up cause she feels it could be Eric, and she just won't answer cause of fear or pride or anything, even that she knows that she wants to and she miss him,and when" it's(finally ) clear that he's gone" she can confess to herself "the things she feel".The way I'm getting it it's like she felt something hard that she'd never thought that she could feel for someone, and got scared of it,cause it would change her in a way that she doesn't have control over and "all the dolls she had" could be lost or misplaced. So,it's a song about running away from love. It's like "Let me be weak, let me sleep and dream of sheep"from Kate Bush. mail me to discuss it.sorry if i was a drag or if this was a long letter.
