There is one guy who advertises that his cd's (and Under the Covers is one of them) are 'still shrink wrapped' etc. I have bought from this guy and they *are* CDRs. Sessions at West 54th is a PBS show, where they take an artist, put them in an intimate setting, and have them play. The show is an hour, and usually there's two artists per show, but Tori's getting a full show all to herself. Having watched the listings for this show [1], I think this show is really missing a good audience. They've had several awesome artists on there: Cowboy Junkies, Ani DiFranco, PJ Harvey, and on and on and on. I have the Cowboy Junkies show on video, and it's incredible. I really like the Sessions setup {assuming the one show I've seen is representative of the whole thing}, and hope that they can continue to get good artists in there. /nad [1] No cable, and we don't get any channels without cable, so essentially no television here. Before she continues Tori sits to sip that invigorating tea. Relaxing back she describes, "I wanted to go into the hidden parts of the feminine; the way I see it, anyway. We all have our own perspective, men and women, about what the hidden parts of the feminine are. I went after what in some cases have become distorted, such as 'Professional Widow', the black widow, and when I ran into the widow..." she lets out a sick little laugh, "I had to come to terms with the fact that I wanted to be king. And to be this in the patriarchy... I never wanted to be the maiden. I wanted to be the knight that got the castles. I wanted to be the one who got the Land. But still I wanted to have babies; I wanted to be a mother, I wanted to feel that ability to do that. So the role of woman, to have babies and do that, you can't be a knight too, you can't do that. And the women who were knights were virgins, the Joan of Arcs... so you are not a sexually active being who wants to be involved and have a baby and a love relationship and be the brains to keep the castle running. And I do not mean the chatelaine... I want to be Patton." Tori pauses to allow for my sudden laughter. Oh, please, do excuse me. Too much caffeine and chocolate cookies makes me rude. Tori happily agrees her words are out there. "These are just examples... it could be Newton, but the creative forces have been predominately men. Even when the women... Mozart had a sister, but it wasn't encouraged, it wasn't part of the arena. So when you run into a Camille Claude, or a Jane Austen, they are few and far in-between. And they usually didn't have the freedom that the male creative forces had, nor were they ever really accepted into the arena. "So this century, that happened. In the later part, the women, and not just being the divas, but being the writers, the da Vincis, and I think it's been very confusing. Well, who are the Mona Lisa's?" she giggles. "And it's like you are, buddy!" He giggles well into rich laughter. "And sometimes they have a real hard time with that. Sometimes too I wanted to explore being the Mona Lisa while they were the da Vincis', being able to be all things within a relationship, because it's usually about picking a role. 'Well, if I am the da Vinci, you have to be the muse, because I am the force.' Well, the muse has their needs, and the creative force starts to be dominating if it never has a chance to be vulnerable." I do wonder how many brave women embraced sacred creativity but were too terrified to make themselves known to the world. No one can tell me that forceful artistic women suddenly appeared in this century. Bullshit. I think not. Tori, dear? "The dam has been trying to break for a long time," she stresses as she scratches her side vigorously. Tori's in that complete exhaustive state where you don't care what you do. "And it's just breaking... the deluge, whether it's filmmakers or writers or... it's all over the board. It's been there all the time but usually in secret. A lot of women played the harpsichord but you don't hear compositions by them. You don't hear what they were up to! Again, there was not an acceptance that women could be the creative forces..." We touch on author George Sands taking on the male role to the point of dressing like a man. She even acted like man (for that century) in her blatant pursuit of composer Chopin. It's the only way she could think to be accepted as a strong woman: to act like a man. Is it any wonder we need to erupt? To the South American shamans, ayahuasca ("vine of the soul," as translated from the Ecuadoran Indian Quichua) is a sacred essence - and only they can harness its force. They drink it to trip themselves into the supernatural, where they confront and tame the jaguar spirit, the highest power in the jungle. Once they've assumed its strength, these wise men can cure illnesses, counsel their people, even communicate with the dead." But there is something that bugs me, and that's all the different lyrics flying about, it kinda makes it hard to follow where a person is coming from. So, i've taken it upon myself to come up with the most precise lyrics I can based on 3 wonderful recordings I have of the song. The first is the studio version, the mp3 format, the second is the Evanston, IL 10-29-98 concert and the third is the Pittsburgh, PA 11-6-98 concert. I have scrutinized over this for some time and will try and document where I am getting my info on all the questionable lyrics. So, here goes: Go to bed, priests are dead Now no one can call you back Go to bed, priests are dead Finally you're in peppermint land (11-6-98) He's a merman, he doesn't need your voice He's a merman Go to bed, Dream instead and you will find him (studio) He's a merman eternally (10-29-98) He doesn't need something you're not willing to give He's a merman, doesn't need your voice to cross his legs(11-6-98) Go to bed, priests are dead now no one can call you back Go to bed, priests are dead Finally you've found it (studio) Let it out, who could ever say you're not simply wonderful Who could ever harm you Sleep now, you're my little goat (11-6-98 - there is a definite "T" at the end of the word) Go to bed, priests are dead (variant endings-what I've typed is what I got from the studio version) And I'm saying it again Go to bed, past the apple orchard and you'll feel nice two can play, I said two can play So anyways, I hope this will help clear up some of the problem's we've all been having.
