I just wanted to tell you about a cool Neil Gaiman encounter I had this weekend. I'm sure all of you know about Tori's friendship with the British author of science fiction, Neil Gaiman. Well, a bookstore near my hometown was holding an Evening With Neil Gaiman type event, and I thought it would be fun to attend. Unfortunately, I got stuck in MAJOR traffic and missed most of the speech/q&a session, but I still wanted to get something signed by him. I waited in line for nearly two hours before finally getting to talk to him. I had brought my Plugged '98 tourbook for him to sign (the page with his exerpt). Well, as soon as he saw that I had it, he smiled and said he loved her. He also said that she invited him on the bus with her for 3 shows this tour (Jacksonville, FL and the two proceeding). The best part of the whole thing is what he wrote in the tour book. It read: -Amy- Hi by the way... Neil Gaiman How cute! He was such a cool guy! Okay, and to make this post somewhat Tori related, I was listening to the Cure's Fascination Street the other day, and I found a line: "And if you slip going under, slip over my shoulder". Of course, my mind works in very strange ways and went directly to the background vocals of Doughnut Song... "You can tell me that it's over, you can tell me that it's over, over your shoulder". And since we all know Tori is fond of the Cure, I was wondering if anyone else picked that out and wondered about if there was any connection? (Probably not, but hey... I love making irrelevent conversation. ^_^) Well, I'm glad to be back on my feet. I hate my computers. They always seem to break... well, I'll talk to you later. A Choirgirl Hotel Refrence Too? Hey Guys - Okay I was just listening to Precious Things and I had a startling revelation. Anyway has anyone thought that the song is a refrence to a sexual escapade? Well I was just thinking about it and I and I came up with this idea. Well I will start from the very begining of the song... The breathing (I at first thought that this was her actually running after Billy, but the more I think it sounds like a sexual breathing) So I ran faster (This person just kind of rushed the whole situation) But it caught me here (Don't have a clue) Yes my loyalties turned like my ankle in the seventh grade running after Billy running after the rain (Billy is the guy that she wants and her friends have all abandoned her because of how deligently she is persuing this boy. She is trying so desperately to get the rain, which is refered to in Choirgirl. This is the same here as in Northern Lad. The rain is sexual juices - if you pardon the way I say that) These Precious Things Let them bleed Let them wash away These Precious Things Let them break They're hold on me (This first time I think that its about passion. Loosing her virginity. Its gonna break and bleed. Anyway she is happy - or lack of a better word - impassioned by it) He said you're really an ugly girl But I like the way you play And I died (He really doesn't get turned on by her but is addicted to the aspect of sex that he has to conquer her. When she hears this it cruches her) But I thanked him (Although hurt she is joyous of how he has treated her sexually) Can you believe it Sick sick Holding on to his picture dressign up everyday (She is so appaled by his obsession with himself always caring a picture ready to give to a girl. And by the fact that he dresses for the play. He is always out to get a girl in bed) I wanna smah their faces those beautiful boys those christian boys (She is so torn and upset that she is out to get everyone liek this man. To get her revenge on the stereotype of the christian boy - the hypocrite) So you can make me cum That doesn't make you Jesus (She is pleased with him sexually but that doesn't make him any kind of demigod) The second chorus is one of anger at the male sex and especially at the boy who did it to her. I remember yes In my peach party dress No one dared No one cared To tell me where those pretty girls are Those demigods With their nine inch nails And their little fascist panties Tucked inside thwe heart Of every nice girl (She is trying to get together with her old friends but they don't want to accept her. She realizes this and is enraged once more and begins to throw names at the group of ex friends. She has finally come to realize how two faced they truly are) The third time through she is just completely pissed and empty. and then the song slowly comes to its close which i feel is that she has died or commited suicide, because I don't believe this story has a happy ending. but thats the idea that I had. Its not as articulated as I had hoped for it to be. Sorry I hope I got the point I was trying for across. I can answer your first question about BT. I have all of his CD's and Blue Skies isn't on any of them. Perhaps it appears on import versions of ESCM. My copy (from Canada) doesn't have it either. Also, there are two versions of the CD single for Blue Skies. One has a blue cover and the other has a sort of silvery cover. IMA is by the BT {Brian Transneau, whose name I can never spell right :) }, the guy responsible for the tornado mix of Talula. The reason it's listed under Tori is because "Blue Skies" is on that album, and Tori does vocals on that. You can get this song in several ways: 1) BT's US album IMA 2) BT's UK album ESCM 3) BT's two UK singles for Blue Skies 4) The "Party of Five" soundtrack /nad ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Jan 1999 09:25:48 -0500 (Eastern Standard Time) From: Melanie Lynne Starke Subject: Re: ebay Yes, I'm just like "they don't get it".
