Yeah, that's possible.. It also could be that they got too old to continue wearing. I remember her saying something about how she would have to take them to a jeweler in London to get them repaired all the time because they were delicate and would become out of shape. Perhaps they just had been repaired one too many times and she stopped wearing them for fear that they would become damaged and fall off and she would lose them or something... Why on earth would that be the only assumption? A second post for me...wow! :) Well, I know that the Tori answers are to be found here...so here goes. I fell madly in love with Tori, when suddenly, this very cool redhead comes out in an awesome, sparkly goldish top ( the same style as the cover of FTCH) and plays, I do believe it was "crucify" on the tonight show. This was a few years back, but I remember how impressed I was...and well, I would really love a copy of this performance. If ANYONE knows what in the heck I am talking about, will you PLEASE let me know? I am prone to believing that my dreams are actual things that happened..so you could chalk it up to that if no one has any idea what I am describing! This was the first time I ever saw Tori (dream or no) and I would love to have it for posterity! Sorry if this is at all unclear...I am super sleepy, and should have waited to post. :) I love you all..Lots of Faerie kisses! (there must be some jukeboxes which still use vinyl as opposed to compact discs). though you'd think the singles from utp would have been treated the same way since they were at least as radio-friendly as the ones ftch and probably more popular. >Why didn't we get any singles >on vinyl before BfP? Hey! If any of you can be present at Tori's AOL interview this week, please see to it the following questions get asked: 1. Will there still be a live album due out this December? 2. Has she considered doing a bee sides compilation? 3. What are the latest CDs she's bought? 4. What is she reading right now? 5. What's the new song she's writing for the "Anywhere But Here" soundtrack? 6. Are we ever going to hear the song she recorded with Michael Stipe? (maybe she could release it on her next album?) 7. What happened to those little silver earrings she used to wear all the time? 8. What size shoe does she wear? (So we can bring her funky shoes at her concerts. hehe) 9. Has she gotten to take her long-put-off honeymoon yet? Where did she get to go? Let's all think of some good questions so she's not hit with the same ol', same ol'. We all know her story inside out, right? Intergalactic Garage is horrible about updating their website. {They're horrible about other things, but we'll stick with the website for now. :) } That notice has been up there for months. There are no plans to release another single in the UK. They were supposed to get JS as a single there {with Merman as a bee-side}, but that got pulled in favor of RS, and then RS got pulled in the UK {although it did get released to the rest of Europe and Australia}. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 Jan 1999 12:35:03 -0500 From: "S. She wore them throughout the BfP tour, and I have tons of photos to prove it ;) The first time I saw her without them was during this last tour, and I assumed it was because they've about had it, since she has been quoted as having said she gets them repaired frequently and they lose a little of their shape each time. She got them at a trendy shop in London made by a very famous jeweler. The pattern reminds me of the ancient spiral seen in cave drawings that have been found in Egypt, and most recently all the way in Ireland. Fascinating history... How stupid am I...Clutching her ankle chain? Oh well. Anyways, after someone mentioning the Sgt. Peppers cd I decided to go browsing through my mom's stash of old records and I found it pretty easily. My god! That version is so hilarious. It doesn't do the song justice at all. I think it sounds really cheesy and loses the whole mood of the song. Maybe I would feel differently if I hadn't heard Tori's version first because she really puts a whole other feel to it. Kind of a really pained feeling in the song cause her baby is gone and everything but on the Sgt. Peppers record it's all upbeat sounding. I think it's great for a laugh. My mom has a lot of cool records if you're in the mood to laugh. She has one where it has this little kid saying "Daddy what if the wind stopped blowing?" And then the guy is like, "Well, Bobby...If the wind stopped blowing, then the grass would stop growing..." and it goes on with really lame and amusing lyrics. Ah the records my mom has...Excuse my ranting. Lack of sleep can do that to a person. I accidentally had a possible Tori insight today. Well, if you're familiar with Susan Glaspell's short story "A Jury of Her Peers" (there's also a play based on it called "Trifles") you may have thought of this. If not, basically, here's what happens: there was this unhappily married couple, unhappy because the husband repressed and isolated and probably battered the wife. The one comfort she had was a canary in a cage that would sing to her like she used to herself. Her husband killed it. So she killed him, breaking his neck the same way. In the story, the wives of men investigating the crime stumble upon the empty cage, and then the dead bird. The men have been mocking them the whole time and aren't around when they find the bird and make the connection. So the women take the bird with them and never say what they've found, leaving the crime with no evidence. I think the line "you're just an empty cage girl if you kill the bird" could have something to do with this. As in, if you destroy or abandon what makes you happy, then you're showing your own guilt. And so you're crucified over it. Just a couple thoughts... Erin ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V4 #18 ************************************
