Because Tori rejected her as the feminine ideal and knows she could go back, but doesn't want to. This would kind of fit in with "the offering is molasses." Not to be grotesque here, I'm really just sharing my thoughts, but I think the molasses refers to some kind of female secretion. (as in "honey" or blood) Kind of saying that she'd have to sacrifice her womanhood to meet the Catholic ideal. That's just a random rumination though. :) Erin ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jan 1999 07:34:52 -0900 From: "Anya Horine" Subject: Re: ToriFest '99 This sounds just so wonderful. :-) I'd heard mention of a Torifest going on in Portland, OR in August as well, is that true? Someone stole my raspberry swirl necklace. It was the first momento i got from a tori concert and it really meant a lot to me. i took it off at a friend's house while i was showering and i forgot. then my friend told me it was downstairss in his bathroom so i went to get it and it was gone! *cry* we think one of his sister's friends may have grabbed it. i offered 20 bucks to whoever found it but nothing. it's just a necklace but i dunno. but i did get some good news. music blvd had been messing with me when i ordered spark 2 awhile back saying that they had it on backorder and today i got an email saying they sent it. i was just about to order it again. does anyone know where i can buy another raspberry swirl girl necklace? it still won't be the same though. ~~*sarah*~ _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? Hi everybody! Ever since 1992, I had noticed Tori wearing the same silver earrings in almost all her videos, concerts, magazines, etc. She stopped wearing them during the whole From the Choirgirl Hotel era. Has anyone else (as crazy as I am) noticed this? And if someone has, do you know why she had stopped wearing them by any chance? I remember meeting and talking with Tori after going to my first show in 1994 (Under the Pink era) and I asked her, "Why do you always wear those earrings?" and she was surprised I had noticed and she responded, "Someone very special gave them to me and I never take them off" and I asked, "Not even in the shower?" and she said, "No." Ever since that moment, I had always "looked" for the earrings every (rare) chance I saw her. I just wonder why she stopped wearing them... If anyone else has any info.... Thanks! He has other works available, including _Good Omens_ {co-authored with Terry Pratchett} and _Neverwhere_ {just out in the US in paperback}. "Me and Neil'll be hanging out with the Dream King" is a reference, IIRC, to one of the characters in the Sandman books [1]. "Neil makes me a tree" is a similar reference -- he drew her as a tree in one of his works. "The Velvets" are characters in _Neverwhere_. For other questions like this, I highly recommend reading over the Tori FAQ that the folks over at rec.music.tori-amos put together. You can browse it and other Tori-related FAQs on our website at http://www.rmta.org/rmt-a/faq.html. It's also available by email (same document, but it shows up in your mailbox instead of on your screen), but I'll be damned if I can remember the address right now. :) /nad [1] I've never read any Sandman material, so if anyone wants to step in and correct me on the details here, have at it. :) ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Jan 1999 17:05:49 PST From: "Thomas Mazorlig" Subject: Re: neil and tori. this is cute NerrrdGirl@aol.com writes: >Subject: Re: neil and tori. this is cute. > >ummm, this may be a stupid quesiton, but who is neil? he's mentioned a lot in >tori's music > The only stupid questions are the one's you don't ask. Neil is Neil Gaiman a fabulous author and friend of Tori. He met Tori after someone one slipped him a boot of LE before it came out (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm not quite on the money). He loved it, got in contact with her, and they became friends. The Dream King mentioned in TiYH is the lord of Dream from Neil's masterpiece, Sandman. This comicbook is so wonderful that you must locate copies and read them immediately. IMHO, Sandman is the most sublime piece of literature to emerge out of the 80's. It is nothing short of genius. His other works are definitely worthwhile as well. He refers to Tori several times in Sandman and in Stardust she is a tree. Apparently, Hotel draws heavily on his novel Neverwhere, but I haven't read it yet. Soon, but not yet. I hope this helps and didn't bore you. To be perfectly honest, I can't tell you wheter I'm a bigger fan of Neil's or Tori's. They are both the best. For almost 7 years, I have always liked to know that Tori fans are more "enlightened" than other artists' fans... any Tori fan who judges other fans of Tori is not a real fan in my opinion... I don't see Tori love in that. We should all build on each others' strengths and honor that we have all at least received the message here... When I first discovered Tori's work, I didn't know WHO the other fans were. I was in a small, southern city where country music was what was cool. I felt really alone at 15 (when I first heard Little Earthquakes) listening to Tori about 3 times a day, thinking that I may not DIRECTLY know who else was listening to her at the time, but I FELT others' presences with me, whether they were gay, Black, White, Purple, Yellow, straight, anything... I just had a sense of power knowing that ONE day I would meet others who had been listening. I did about 2 years later at my first concert, and those people on the surface were very different from me (and I was very surprised even though PLEASED that men listened to her!) I thought I would meet others like me, but older. While I did meet those people, I was so in awe of how different people heard Tori's messages. I think we all ought to focus on the glory of that...
