OK, so I was just wandering along, not smoking crack or anything, :) and had this thought about BfP. Sorry if this is trite. But I'm thinking, look at who's on the album. We have Lucifer, Mohammad, Henry VIII (Talula), Jupiter, Judas Muhammad Ali, Mr. St. John, and the Red Baron. Granted, some of them aren't really *central* to the album, but play along, it's delightful frolishing. (I didn't count Neil or the "sheriff" or Bill and Ben, btw) So these guys are really powerful in some sense, right? Whether they're commanding the underworld, thunderbolts, boxing, or British literature, these are all "big tall men" as Liz Phair would say, right? And the album could be about proving that their "energies" mean nothing when sacrificed to the female energy of Pele. "you've never seen fire/until you've seen Pele blow" is part of the story. Now, Tori has said that the major songs represent the body parts of (I'm not sure if the name is right) the faerie queen Mab, (Spin 1996) and I don't really know that story. But what I'm thinking makes sense to me b/c she humanizes these phallic symbols of power in the album, and they eventually become nothing more than sacrificial boys for Pele. Have I gone too far with this?:) Erin ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 6 Jan 1999 08:31:59 EST From: P1anoguy@aol.com Subject: Father Lucifer Background Lyrics I know this was posted some time ago, but I misplaced the email. For those of you in the UK who have only just seen the Cruel/RS single in the high streets I would recommend you find yourselves a small independent music store and ask them to order it for you. I have a really good little shop that got me the Cruel/RS and JS singles the day they were released in the US and for the regular price of £4.99 It is possible. Shame about the video though :o( I can't believe they would be so mean as to deny it to the rest of the western world!
