Hola, hola, I was just wondering what Vanessa meant by "poorly promoted"... I think that before getting together and writing to AtRec we should really try to figure out what would be "greatly promoted" and what exactly is being a "nice record label" mean. A few days ago I came across the Underground, Sophie B. Hawkins' (I have a blank at this moment of exactly how her name is spelled...) website, and although I feel I missed out on something, the idea I got from reading her and her fans' messages was that SONY did not want to release her new album the way she recorded it...and to release it they were demanding specific changes, and then there is a whole controversy around her use of the banjo on the album. Now that, I think, is a crummy record label...limiting the artists' own creativity and power of decision on his/her own music! So...two questions: What is a great promotion? and How should a nice label act? xx C. p.s. As far as singles, imports, etc. are concerned, I'm quite happy with all that. IMHO, I think they shouldn't be heavily promoted, they *are* indeed more of a collector's item. But I, as a consumer, didn't like being jerked around on a stick by Atlantic this year with their "Let's release this single... actually, let's change our minds the day the single is due out." Records stores were left in the dark, changes were made willy-nilly, and it was basically a cluster-f***. I doubt any of that was Tori's fault, responsibility, or under her control. >I personally don't want Tori's name SATURATED all over the airwaves like >Mariah Carey or any others of her (Mariah's) "caliber." I say, 'Look guys, alternative to what?' It's all about formats now. You get played if you can fit in and sound like everything else. That to me is really discouraging." I completely agree in that respect. Lately, music that is played popularly is formulaic and ... well, non-challenging to us broad-minded EWF. :p (jk) >Tori is doing fine financially. I was especially upset when I read this because I love Bob Dylan! I also thought it was interesting how Tori and Bob were similiar. On Tori's new cd, she changed her format and went with a whole band. Bob did pretty much the same thing in '65 when he went "electric", and alienated a lot of his fans in the process. Of course, Bob got criticized a lot more for what he did, while critics now like Tori better now that she plays with a band. Anyways sorry for droning on about Bob... shelley She knows that there's no success like failure and that failure's no success at all. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 7 Dec 1998 21:20:52 EST From: Tasha325@aol.com Subject: Re: frog on my toe i have always thought "haughty" as well... but i did wonder, when she says "paint them toes..." is it the "reddest" color or "reddish"? tasha ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 07 Dec 1998 20:32:25 -0500 From: Beth Coulter Subject: The answer to Re: mailing to Tori At 07:00 PM 12/7/98 EST, Katapilla7@aol.com wrote: > >Is there an address at all that tori actually recieves things through? She decided not long after Boys came out to no longer read any of the letters mailed to her. It was a matter of being fair, if she couldn't read them all, then she couldn't read any of them.
