Blood Roses really doesn't seem like it would fit in there, but I think Daisy Dead Petals could work. Of course, I'm not sure if this is pre-wedding music or dance-type music that you're wanting, 'cause timing is important, and if you're just going to have the music played without the singing then that affects the situation as well. Sugar and Northern Lad would be good, and I also agreed with whoever mentioned All the Girls Hate Her and Over It. As far as having the piano music itself played, Doughnut Song, Etienne, Bells for Her, Icicle, and Cloud on my Tongue would be good choices, amongst others. hee. Have all of the Sam Goodies done this or is there something wrong > with Long Island (North Babylon, to be specific)? Actually, I can tell you from having worked management for Sam Goody that it's got little to do w/what they ORDER, but what Corporate feels they'll sell the most of in any specific region. Odds are, the Musicland group doesn't think that Tori sells enough in North Babylon, so they didn't have many videos shipped there. It's got little to do with the specific store, and a whole lot to do with demographics (and the fact that corporate wants to make lots and lots and lots of money). (and funny enough, they apparently all ship from different werehouses, and purchase from different vendors, as well. We were able to get in a CD that they said was out of print/vendor deleted in South Carolina ... go fig). I'll never forget when I was working in the store in Clarksville, IN, a *local* band came out w/an album, and Corporate only had 1 copy of it shipped to us, despite my boss calling and *requesting* more copies, because it wasn't rap, it wasn't country, and they weren't big name (Days of the New, or something like that). We lost about 12 sales cus of it. I'm not going to defend them on their prices, however. The Camelot corp. raised their prices, so the Musicland group felt they had to raise theirs too ... even with my generous employee discount, it was still cheaper for me to go somewhere else to buy CD's, after they raised prices. I hate Corporate. On a Tori-related note, my co-workers always made fun of me because I'd play Tori all the time (we had a 5 disc changer, and I'd always plop in a Tori CD), but we sold a lot more Tori because of people liking what they heard. I can't even begin to tell you how many people came up to me and asked what that was playing, and where could they find it. -- The Mermaid ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 02:51:10 -0600 From: "Jennifer Dean" Subject: Re: comp video question Hey, from what I've read on and around the web Professional Widow was going to be on the video or it was just a misprint in the press releases. Instead, Amos is contemplating the release of a live and B-sides compilation for Christmas 1999. "There will be nine or 10 years of material represented in one kind or another," Amos tells Wall of Sound. "Some of the things I'm thinking about aren't fleshed out enough yet, so we'll have to work with them a little. But I really wanted to take a break from having new work, my writing, put under the microscope one more time. That can be exhausting." Amos is also considering taking a break from recording original material because, after bringing her music to a full band for the first time on the new album and the current tour, she feels she's at something of a crossroads as an artist and songwriter. "I don't really know where I'm going right now," she admits. "That's why I'm not acting on anything. Playing live and capturing the live performance is where I have always integrated the records. Then what's next?" As an intuitive and poetic performer, Amos is quite insightful and cautious about her work, and wants to make sure the next step feels comfortable to her as an artist. "After I make a record, it takes me a while to make it a part of my own body map," she says. "Sometimes I'm so detached from it after touring^×even though a thread of me is in it^×that it takes me a while to pull back and find out what it's about again, to make it meaningful. It's important to find out what these songs are trying to tell me, not just about my own experience but about a more universal experience. A lot of times you're translating your own songs and saying, 'OK, I know this sounds right, but I haven't really quite experienced this or I haven't seen that yet.' So sometimes I have to step back. That's why I'm thinking about this live and B-sides project, to give myself a little time to step back." Amos releases her Complete Videos to stores today (Nov. 17). ^×Bob Gulla sabrina ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 06:59:16 -0600 From: Simon Booth Subject: Re: etienne skippage At 01:19 PM 11/14/98 -0800, you wrote: > >My Y Kant Tori Rede skips on Etienne too! (both of those are in Beth's summary at http://members.aye.net/~mikewhy/storytellers.html) I think what she means is that she was lying when she said that Mark is the northern lad, but she wasn't lying abuot the "deal" being with mark, that she's not supposed to talk about who the song's about anymore. makes the song back to being straightforward again, anyway. and it's somehow very tori-like to lie by saying something "i'm not supposed to talk about him. so, um, it's about mark. yeah. um, i'm lying, though. ;-)" - -abbe ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 15:42:32 EST From: "glytter grrl" Subject: Re: Sam Goody = Evil sam goody in general sucks. i never buy any cd's or what not from them (or other mall record shopes)i think the only purchases i've ever made there were my tori books and a poster for someone's birthday. i don't see the purpose of buying a CD for $17.99 that i can get at target or meijers for 13.99 or if not that special order for the same price. they only order little of things because of the fact that tori in many peoples, mostly corporate bastards, eyes..not "mainstream" enough. no one out there in "his town" is going to buy the tori video, so just order enough to say that we have/had it on had, ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Nov 1998 19:35:18 -0500 (EST) From: Lacy Subject: Re: cooling question On Tue, 17 Nov 1998, Thomas Mazorlig wrote: > Can anyone tell me what the first lines of Cooling are. After she finished, she > told us, "I'm really not supposed to talk about him, see we made > a deal; I married him." aha! well, sort of. okay, i was always skeptical of "northern lad" being for mark, but i guess i can make some sense of it now. two lines always threw me in this song, but here are some possible rationalizations. "had a northern lad, well, not exactly 'had'" i always assumed she was talking totally in the past tense. had. what she really means is that had is incorrect since she actually *has* the nothern lad. "girls you've got to know when it's time to turn the page when you're only wet because of the rain" i took this to mean that the northern lad wasn't good enough for her molasses, but i guess she must be talking about the other chaps who came before the northern lad. i still not sure how this hangs together given these lines: "But I feel something is wrong But I feel this cake just isn't done" (obviously a "baker, baker" reference.) "I loved his secret places but I can't go anymore" and "I guess you go too far when pianos try to be guitars" this has to be a reference to her cover of "if 6 were 9", but was mark wasn't in the picture yet, was he? i guess the all of the song except the first few lines could be about everybody before mark. it would be in character for her to mix things up like that. but it still seems tenuous at best. i assume this was discussed ad naseum way back when choirgirl was released, but a) i'm a slow lyrics listener and b) i wasn't paying attention to the lyrics discussions back then. ;) woj ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 19:21:19 EST From: Epetula@aol.com Subject: the home stretch could somone please tell me the last 10 concert locations? i will be missing durham and if theres another close by i would love to go 'say goodbye ' ... thankyou all love and faerie kisses boo (laura) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 16:54:15 EST From: Talulagrl1@aol.com Subject: ...trades anyone?... i am looking for any 98 shows i dont have.... good quality........ this is what i have to offer..........(all 98) manchester sunrise(a combo of both dates) portland parkwest ames greek hardrock ft lauderdale newcastle roxy mci center birmingham ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 18 Nov 1998 17:05:41 -0500 From: cypresj@compsys.com Subject: Tori photo in Music Monitor Hey! Maybe Mark is really hesitant to express his emotions. We all know he doesn't really like for Tori to talk about him or marriage. Which I fully understand, because that's between the two of them and all. I think she's saying you can never completely figure somebody out. In the AP interview, she says it's about finding out that you didn't mean as much to somebody as you thought you did. I can more easily see Eric fitting into that, but I guess w/ the aforementione! d thoughts on Mark, it could be either...I don't know, I'm only guessing. But that's my molasses for thought. :) Has anybody else connected "molasses" with the ever-popular thread of "honey" or even "sugar?" That just popped into my head... But then again, I've always felt she was combining both of her SO's to make up the one "Northern Lad" because there are lines that could refer to either or. But my favorite way to interpret Tori's songs is how they relate to my life. Like the "only wet because of the rain" is not only sexual to me, but a complete lack of emotion. Like when I found out my ex had cancer, it was raining and the only water on my face was the stuff falling from the skies. Fear can sometimes be a useful emotion. For instance, let's say you're an astronaut on the moon and you fear that your partner has been turned into Dracula. The next time he goes out for the moon pieces, wham!, you just slam the door behind him and blast off. He might call you on the radio and say he's not Dracula, but you just say, "Think again, bat man." --Jack Handy ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V3 #402 *************************************
