Yes, I was looking forward to seeing her very much, and I was a tiny bit disappointed that she was so late in the show, and that she had such a short time up there. Silly me, when Ben Stiller said "The next two presenters make that whole feminism thing really easy to take," I though Tori would come out. But of course it was Natalie Im-fucking-bruglia. Excuse my language, but I don't see how she's a feminist. However, the point of this post is not to put anyone down. It's to say that I nearly pooped when I saw Tori come out with Beck! I know how some of you feel about Beck, but he is simply a man of wax. I'm proud to claim him as one of my husbands. The sunglasses were classic, the suit was styling, and the robot dance was expertly executed. Tori looked beautiful, Beck looked excessively handsome, and to see the two of them arm in arm made my day. For once I was equally as jealous of both of them for being with each other. Hehe. I think Tori may have been putting on some of the disaffected attitude to play up Beck's energy more. I also think it worked. The whole presentation was wonderful. As for the rest of the show... Hole rocked, and the Beasties kicked my ass. The Brian Setzer Orchestra had me jivin and wailin, but did anyone else feel the unnecessity of seeing Marilyn Manson's bare buttocks two years in a row? Hehe. Just a thought. None of my husbands that were nominated (Thom, Beck, and Dave) won anything, but it was a nice show nonetheless. To sum up, I think most of you probably would have found anyone they put with Tori to be unworthy. It just so happens that I'm a big fan of Beck. I can understand your resentment, but don't take it out on Beck. He's talented, creative, innovative, and damn good-looking. Besides, he's small! He can't defend himself. So cut it out or I'll have to come after you with my slipper and whoop some ass. Lianne MacDonald's "Collecting Tori" http://www.btinternet.com/~lianne.macdonald/ToriAmosDiscography.htm Excellent resource. Besides having detailed info on most of the existent Tori releases (including Promos), you will also find some great add-ons, such a the "Collecting Guide"; with info on the "Rare Tori" releases and also the "Affordable Tori" releases. It also has a list of online vendors and a link to the "RMTA Price Guide". And the very useful "Song List" with a list of all the officially released Tori songs and where to find them. "The Compleat Tori" http://welcome.to/tori Again, this is an excellent website. The most useful feature here is that you can find pictures to all the official releases, from the rare Silent All These Years Limited Edition CD to the mundane Professional Widow CD-5. This one has info and great scans of the Past The Mission Limited Edition Digipack. "RMTA Price Guide" http://www.rmta.org/rmta/price.html Invaluable resource. Everyone should take a look at this every once in a while. If someone offers you a copy of the Baltimore Vinyl, how much should you pay for it? You'll find the answer here. "Ian's Tori Amos Marketplace" http://www.execpc.com/~czak/toriamos.html Okay, so this is not a discography site per-se. What makes this site incredibly useful is that here you can find pictures to *numerous* Tori releases. From CD to vinyl, if you want to see what it looks like, don't forget to come here. "Through The Portal: Matt's Tori Amos Page" http://www.golden.net/~eternity/Through_The_Portal/index.html This is a very extensive resource of all the Tori releases worldwide. This one has no pictures, but track-listings and catalog numbers are always well received. Heh. "The Collection" http://www.ljwren.demon.co.uk/paul/ToriCD2.html Take a peek at this guy's collection. Very useful for the scans it offers. "Sarah's Tori Page" http://www.uidaho.edu/~orto5035/Torimain.htm Dedicated to the art of collecting Tori. Useful resource with explanations, some pictures, price info, where to buy, etc. Jason Bilsky's "Bootleg Discography" http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/4370/tabdnew.html If you're into bootlegs, this is the place to be! Everything you've ever wondered about them, and more. Also, if you're really curious about who Jason is and what Tori means to him, check out his personal page with pictures of his [no-longer existent] Tori shrine and a list of all the Tori stuff he owns. They did the same thing in the Tom Petty video "You don't KNow how it feels"; it was so obnoxious, it only emphasizes the word 'pot' (which is what the executives at MTV must smoke a lot of, either that or crack. . . ) I thought Tori looked beautiful (in a gothic sort of way) at the MTV video awards, better than she's looked on some of her TV appearences, like David Letterman, when she looked like a battered wife. I was thinking of songs that I would love to hear Tori Amos cover. I think it would be so cool if Tori covered Heart's 'Magic Man' (w/the band) or Olivia Newton-John's 'Magic' (w or w/o the band). Yeah, I have a thing for all those seventies relics, thats why I *love* the Steely Dan cover of 'Do It Again'. The magic theme is coincidental, or maybe not, since Tori is like a magician herself & conjures up all sorts of magical things. Of course, she's not a "human jukebox" but if I could have three wishes granted, those would be the first two (i won't tell you the third. . . ) What does anyone else think or would like to hear? I'm not entirely sure if the critic is being sincere or sarcastic with his response, but here it is: TORI AMOS IS QUITE THE ARTIST-SERIOUSLY. By Patrick MacDonald Tori Amos is a very, very serious artist. You can tell she's a serious artist because everything she does on stage carries heavy meaning, from her whimpers and growls to her soaring high notes and low rumbling ones, from the little dance she did with her knees bent and her wrists held together in front of her like they were tied and bound, to noisily dropping the microphone inside the piano at the last dramatic note of the last dramatic song in the set (prior to the three very dramatic encores.) You can tell Tori Amos is a very, very serious artist because all of her arrangements are big and bold and dynamic, with body-thumping drum sounds, pulsating bass and lots of busy electric guitar. Hers are very serious, very artistic arrangements with quick-changing tempos, loud crescendos, and occasional contrasting moments of silence. They have no room for subtlety or humor or improvisation. [?!?!?!?!]Sometimes they have rhythms you can dance to, rhythms inspired by rock 'n' roll and R&B. But nevertheless, they are all very, very serious arrangements created by a very, very serious artist. For the first time, Amos is touring with a band, and she used her three musicians intensely to create crashing soundscapes, intense interchanges, and huge finales. Oftentimes the music was so blustery you could not hear what Tori Amos was singing. And you must hear what Tori Amos is singing, because she is a very, very serious artist with very, very important things to say. Her songs were about love and death and drugs and feelings and artistic reveries. The one line that got the greatest response was about wanting to kill a guy [does anyone at the concert remember this?]. These artists, they sure say some scary things. She looked like a serious artist, straddling the piano stool center stage so she could face her adoring audience as she played her big black, full-size grand piano. Sometimes she switched over to the other side of the stool to play an electric keyboard in some of the heavier, rock-influenced numbers. With long, flaming-red hair framing her small oval face, and her green eyes flashing, she emoted every note with her hands and body, sometimes throwing her head back when the honesty was just too much. You could tell Tori Amos is a very, very serious artist because her show was big and busy and impressive. It was one of those shows where bright lights were shone into the audience constantly. It was worth putting up with *those blinding lights every minute all night long* because it made us in the audience feel special, like we were part of the show. It wasn't a hokey gimmick, not at all. It added to the drama of a very, very serious concert. And during the very last song-it was probably "Liquid Diamonds," it was hard to tell[it was really Pandora's Aquarium]-not one, not two, not three but *four* huge mirror balls were used to make the whole Key Arena sparkle. The CD *is* an import. The market in which it is being sold is outside of the UK, and that's that. There is no domestic release of the single, it cannot be obtained from a UK supplier, and as such is classed an import. I was thinking about going to the meet and greet. Maybe I'll be lucky. But, what I was wondering is when would be the best time to go etc, and how does this rilly work????? dani(elle) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ i just went to see tori last month, :) me and all my buds arrived at like 11 and i was #20 in line. #1 got there at 8:00.. i dont know how others work but this one: some dude puts a # on your hand and you can either stay there or wander around for awhile. then an hour or so before tori comes security sets up barricades and then you rush to em and stand there for an hour in the hot sun sweating to death and getting crushed. tori arrived at like 4ish and she walked up and down the barricades and signs stuff and talks to you. (she talked to me but i froze arg. im such an idiot, i blew my only chance to ever talk to her :( anyways, i recommend bringin something to drink and patience. if ou want to actaully be up in front id get there at like 10 or 11, it depends on how many people show up. hope this helps. tata danielle (there are 2 of us? hmmm... what shall we do?) ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Sep 1998 17:59:44 -0700 From: Mireya Subject: Portland and Eugene shows Hi everybody! These two shows were amazing!!! My first Tori concerts, and they will never be forgotten. I am still in shock... Tori just blew me away. First of all, the Portland show. I thought the meet-n-greet was a major waste of time. For some it wasn't, I'm sure, but I couldn't even see Tori... Some girl was trying to get everyone organized, but no one was listening to her. Everybody was so nice though... hello to the girl with the rainbow-sparkley leggings and tiara (sorry I forget your name), it was great meeting you! There was a guy at the meet-n-greet that was claiming to be Mikewhy... did anybody else see him? I doubt it was him, email me if you want to know why. It was quite interesting. Once inside, it was miserable for me. Stupid little me got gen admission seats on the floor, so I got crushed. I couldn't see *anything*. Some very tall guy that reeked of beer actually pushed me out of the way and stood right in front of me... my husband was ready to kill. The same guy and his girlfriend started to light up a bong... I just snapped and went off on them. I don't care what anyone smokes, but I can't have them doing it right in front of my face... the smell makes me throw up. We finally moved to the very back of the crowd, where I could see much better. After that, it was heaven. Tori gave such a powerful performance. Cooling was so beautiful! Raspberry Swirl was great. It was all great. The one song I was really hoping to hear was Merman... I had never heard it before, and I was dying to find out what's so good about it. But, boo-hoo, no Merman for me. Eugene show -- Bliss. The people were so nice... no pushing or shoving. I got great seats. "Mikewhy" was there again, but I didn't see him much. While waiting in line, we all heard Tori playing Hotel at soundcheck. It was great! We could hear it so clearly, it was like a concert before the concert. It was a beautiul day. The atmosphere was very laid back, but very high energy at the same time. People were dancing, especially during Raspberry Swirl. I was having the best time of my life, and then, to top it all off..... she played Merman!!! It was so beautiful, I cried. I was so completely happy, I was overcome. Thanks to Tori for one of the best nights of my life. As good as these two shows were, I think I've had my fill of concerts for a while. I got sick from the heat at the Eugene show and my feet hurt from two days of standing. Gee, do I sound like a whiner or what?
