There are two versions of the album "Phantom Center". The first one was released in 1990 and has a color cover with Ferron sitting on some rocks. Tori does backup vocals {as do the Indigo Girls}. It was reissued in 1995 on another label, Earthbeat, and has a black and white cover with a Ferron leaning against a tree. The reissue was remixed to highlight Tori's vocals {IMHO, it doesn't help much} -- except the first track, which was completely re-recorded and leaves Tori off. Unless you're an absolute completist and must have -everything- that Tori has done, I don't recommend this album. At the very least, go to a store that lets you listen to the CD first and give it a spin before plunking down $15. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jul 1998 19:32:35 PDT From: "Shaigirl 18/f" Subject: Tori and CD-Rs Hello all... Here's the mention: "BUST, which began as a photocopied 'zine, is essentially a product of alternative culture's Riot Grrrl movement, an efort by new female bands in the early 90's to reclaim the brash, bratty sense of self-control that psychologists claim girls lose just before puberty. And in many ways, the movement succeeded, as any fan of Sleater-Kinney and even the Spice Girls will tell you. But even in the world of pop music, with the spirit of girl power behind it, the concept of feminism is often misapplied. Look how the label is tossed about: female singers like Meredith Brooks and Alanis Morissette are installed as icons of woman power (alongside real artist-activists like Tori Amos) simply because they sing about bad moods or boyfriends who have dumped them." :) Darren Linder sleepy1@spiritone.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Jul 1998 12:12:57 EDT From: PoetGrrlAC@aol.com Subject: Trading boots for Tori posters hi peoples, i just had a disapointing visit to my local momand pop type music store. i went in to get a winter single, which they were out of. strike one. then i asked if they had any tori posters. the guy said they had a whole bunch, a new one of her at the piano. we looked through the poster rack, the wall, even the beat up poster box. nothing. the assistant then informed us he sold the last two yesterday. For information about all known Tori CD bootlegs, check out the bootleg discography at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/alley/4370/tabdnew.html "b-side" refers to the other songs on a single that aren't released on the main albums. The term comes from the days when singles were released on those little vinyl 45s -- the a-side would be the song {say, Spark}, and the b-side would be another song that's usually not on the album {say, Purple People (Christmas in Space)}. Now that most singles are being released on CD or perhaps cassette, the term has stuck. >Okay... second and non-tori related: >My cd-rom is now defunct. It was old and only a 2x. Hi hi hi, I attended Tori's concert last night at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago... she said it was the biggest place she'd ever played. :o) It was all around an amazing show, what did the others of you who saw it think? I loved Sugar, it was such a surprise! And the bubbles during Space Dog were trippy. My dad took me, and he was impressed by the light show. I was also surprised that she opened with Precious Things, I was so excited; I was shaking! I can't say enough good things, I loved it! It was my first Tori show, by the way. Does anyone happen to have the setlist? I realize now that I should have taken a pen and paper, but no, I didn't think it would be necessary. If anyone is making a boot if this, also, I would *love* to have a copy. Thanks! I noticed that the t-shirts cost $27 instead of $25, as someone posted earlier... how obnoxious. And what's up with the tank top costing more than the girl-sized tee? I ended up getting the girl tee and a program, both of which I am very happy with. The man seated next to me asked to look at my program, and I didn't want to let him do it, I hate having people touch my stuff!! Hehe but he was actually very nice, and pointed out something I never would have noticed. In the program, on the right page with the wedding pictures, there's a picture of Mark in the top right. This guy (thanks if you're reading this, by the way!) noticed that Mark looks like Bender from the Breakfast Club!!! Judd Nelson's character, for those of you not in the know. ;o) I started freaking out, because I love the Breakfast Club, and Mark totally does look just like Bender in that picture. hehe! Everyone go look at your program right now! Oh and sniff it too, it smells like the lyric sheet inside the album! ;o) Sorry for the rambliness of this, but I'm in a really good mood right now, the show was just so good!!!!! WOO-HOO!!!
