The odd thing is, the sticker in front says "Made in England". And yes, the German singles are identical to the UK ones. I can't tell the difference between them. I've seem them at local record stores here, and the ltd edition single comes in a normal CD jewel case (no mention of postcards), while the normal one comes in the singles case. Same tracklisting, same cover. On another note, to those who actually read the concert reviews on the Dent, did you notice the part where someone who went to one of the UK shows, said that Tori mentioned having Jackie's Strength remixed for b-sides? Doesn't this seem strange? Maybe this person was confused and meant Rasberry Swirl. I think the interpretation that Persephone wanted to be abducted is ridiculous. I think that's an example of a feminist putting her values/opinions onto a story from a culture with completely different ones. While I agree with many feminist ideas, modern feminism doesn't apply to the ancient world because it doesn't come close to reflecting how people thought back then. I think it was Anais Nin who wrote "We don't see things as they are, we see things as we are." The myth can be interpreted as an agricultural myth or as one that reflects the reality of marriage in Greek society. A girl married at about age fifteen; she would have no choice in the matter, and would usually end up marrying a man twice her age. Literally, she could be out gathering flowers with her friends one day, and a wife the next, just like Persephone. The other interesting thing about Persephone is that she was known in two aspects. She could be called Kore, which means "girl" and in this aspect she represents the new crops growing. Or she could be known as the Queen of the Underworld, wife of Hades, and actually could be quite feared in this role. Back to Pandora's Aquarium, one interpretation of that line could be Tori saying, "you're confused, I'm not a girl anymore," not Kore, so to speak. Or she could be saying, "you don't need to fear me." Looking for middle ground, perhaps? Hope some of you find this remotely interesting. I have an great story to share with you guys. I'm not sure how many, if any of you are from upstate South Carolina, or familiar with the radio station 93.3 The Planet. My boyfriend is a "regular goofball" on that station. He participates in obsurd publicity stunts for the "Rude Awakening" morning show. One of which branded him with the name "Diaper Boy"... Monday morning I went with him to the station to provide moral support while he ran 3 miles through downtown wearing only a size 44DD zebra striped bra and Donald Duck boxers. His reason for this? Tickets and pit passes to the sold out Metallica show. (ugh. icky, i know) After Chris (my boyfriend) left to begin his run, the dj, Zakk Tyler brought me into the sound room to interview me on the air. That's when I recieved the shock of my life. Zakk says, " As all of you know, Diaper Boy got into this mess because I promised him Metallica tickets and pit passes, but we talked this morning, and he's evidently changed his mind. We're here with his girlfriend, Joanie, and this guy must be in love." He went on to talk about how Chris told him I'd had a bad week, and that I was depressed because I wouldn't get to see Tori Amos this tour. Then he announced over this main stream hard rock station that Diaper Boy Chris was running 3 miles in boxers and a bra, not for Metallica, but for Tori Amos tickets!! So there's the story. I'm set to see Tori in Atlanta Aug. 17, all because I have a crazy fool boyfriend. Be careful not to rub on the areas which play >okay so you don't mess them up! Also note that the worst scratch is one that runs "concentric" to the disk. That means, any scratch that goes "around" the disk as opposed to going from centre to edge. The data stored on the CD is read like a vinyl album, in a "groove" spiraling out from the centre. If a scratch goes along that groove for any distance, all the data is wiped out. If it just cuts across the groove radially, going from centre to edge, the data can often be corrected by the player. That's unfortunate, because most scratches can happen when the disk is turning in the player, especially if you open it while it is spinning and it tips over or hits some dirt, making circular scratches. So anyway, if you rub, MAKE SURE YOU RUB RADIALLY, from centre to edge, not around the disk at all. I think the thing about abbreviations shouldn't be to stick adamantly to rules, but to make them so that they are instantly recognisable. When you see "FtCgH", that CGH strikes three syllables into the mind, choir-girl-hotel, whereas CH to me just means switzerland. (go figure). So I'd say FtCgH is best (nice and symmetrical) although CGH would be just as good. LE may be better as LEQ, although that title is two definite words, (some people might squirt it out as nearly one syllable) whereas though technically choirgirl is one word, it seems to stick in the mind as two--a type of girl, a girl who happens to be in a choir. An earthquake is a standalone thing, not a quake that happens to occur to the earth. Anyway, just a rant. But I find sticking to CH just because that's the rule, is a bad abbreviation. Just the way RS comes to the mind as Raspberry Swirl, but PA doesn't come out as Pandora's Aquarium. PAq would be better. As for capitalisation, that certainly helps. PTDO would be better as PtDO, I think. (Not PtDo). But would NTRB be better as RBaron? I think so. Anyways, my vote goes with CgH. Looks nice and chemical. Hey y'all, Just some info on this post not rilly related to Tori. If Y Kant was released in 1988, CDs did exist then and albums were in fact pressed on them. CDs existed a few years before then, but pressing onto them was expensive and not a feasible way of releasing songs. Finding original pressings of CDs from this time is tough and they're a bit collectible with certain bands. The main reason why I know this is that I have CD singles from around this time and they weren't too popular. If I recall correctly, U2's Joshua Tree was one of the first rounds of albums pressed onto CD. I am now searching for Silent All These Years, or Me and A Gun singles from the UK. I know they're not easy to find right now, but if anyone out there is willing to sell me one, I would be grateful. I know this is a long shot, but I think this is the only way I'm gonna get one. I know there's some toriphiles out there that can live with just a tape recording or a CD-R recording of the songs, but I'm a major collector, and am looking for the real thing. So, once again, if ANYONE out there has an authentic Me and A Gun or a Silent All These Years single from the UK, please get in touch with me, and we can discuss price/payment. Thanks Alot PS. I am not looking for the silent all these years, one track rainn single either :) I'm looking for the one with the song "Thoughts" Dan ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Jun 1998 20:46:56 -0400 From: Beth Coulter Subject: Re: Spark lyrics (was "i don't know...") Thank you. That was the most beautiful interpretation I have read regarding this. I keep hoping some gentle, wise soul would realize that the album isn't directly about Tori--that it is more human truths being passed along. Thank you so much. Just thought I'd let ya'll know since the info on the price hasn't been released yet, for some reason. As you might remember, rumors were that they wouldn't be going thru TM. Apparently, there was some sorta bidding war going on between them and a new outfit called TeleChoice (So says my source, such as it is). Guess they lost. Too bad. On a different tack, I just got a Bjork album called Homogenic and was wondering if any Bjork fan out there had a suggestion as to what I should get next. Thanx everyone. :) Warren Wanna good panic?
