I don't think the last few posts I've sent have gone through for some reason, so I'll try to condense them into one of various topics. 1.I've been reading a lot about Edie Sedgwick lately and I'm wondering if the Hey Jupiter video has anything to do with her. She loved limos, wore a lot of eye makeup and was famous for being involved in hotel fires, during which she slept. Just a fleeting notion. 2. I feel really stupid but at the same time kind of enlightened because I figured out the first line of ItSoHV. For others like me, "standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona" is from the Eagles' "Take It Easy". So that explains why she's in the wrong song. 3. Does anybody know if Tori just chose 6:58 because it was a neat time or if it is related to her miscarriage or another event? I know I remember the times of important things. It makes sense to me that she noticed it was 6:58 as she drove to the hospital wondering about her baby and that explains "6:58 are you sure where my spark is" but I don't know if that has any truth behind it. I don't remember if I had anything else to mention. So I guess that's all for now. Take care! Another thing you can try is a Q-Tip with a slightly diluted solution of toothpaste. Try not rubbing too hard at first, and keep trying it in the CD player, taking it out and rubbing more if it didn't play properly yet, etc. It's easy to damage the things, but it doesn't play as it is. Be careful not to rub on the areas which play okay so you don't mess them up! Another thing you can try if a CD won't play properly from time to time is to take it out and turn it in the player 90 degrees. That won't fix a real scratch, though. Good luck. I know there's no piano in the song, but i wonder if she plays something else like the keyboard in it or something.... .... anyway, her vocals in this track rock!!! I heard her play this in 1996 in Richmond, but she only played a segment of it, with "hey jupiter" as a closing. She actually played my favorite line "we could buy an airplane, build a home in the sand, you could tell your secrets, i could understand... ... " I would die to hear her do this live again, maybe in it's entirety... "Ettenne Triology" is my second favorite. She played this also on the last tour, in it's entirety actually. I can't remember what show. The piano on this track is gorgeous... "The Big Picture" totally eighties!!!!! But i love every minute of it! "Fire On The Side" awesome!!! The music leaves a eighties unfinished aftertaste, but the lyrics and melody are typical tori, nothing less of brilliant. I don't know about fixing a scratched cd. Frankly I don't think it can be done. I want to say though that you should ALWAYS CHECK USED CD's BEFORE LEAVING THE STORE. There's a store I used to get used cd's all the time in and they had a guarantee that every one of their cd's would play in any cd player. If you get a cd that's scratched badly and you plan on listening to it alot then you're getting ripped off for an 18$ cd. I'd complain and get them to lower the price because it's definitely not worth nearly full price ($20) for a bootleg if it's got a friggin scratch on it. Any reputable used CD store will let you LISTEN to cd's before you buy them as well so you can see if any light scratches affect the tracking. Sometimes it doesn't if the scratch isn't too deep. Yes, Jason, I think you're a grumpy, old man. And what are you gonna do about it? Hon, dumb move even posting this. Did you not expect everybody to agree with you? People who I have spoke with before shows regarding this subject also agree with you. And they are the ones that can also be heard screaming throughout the lengths of particular songs. I think the problem lies in the fact that these particular people get this tremendous sudden need to scream and yell and be obnoxious to make themselves be heard, to make Tori aware of their presence, or to express to others in the only way they know how that they just "LOVE" her so much. Immature, terribly childish, and should definitely be punishable. Notice that during shows from earlier years Tori spent a large portion of her shows telling the grooviest stories. Now, she hardly does at all, or if she does nobody can hear her because of all of the screaming. I think that she is definitely aware of the changes that are occurring at her shows. Soon, I think she will put an end to the meet and greets because they are becoming ridiculous. It's a shame that people's childish behaviour is going to ruin it for the rest of us who attend shows to feel an undeniable energy from Tori and if she's getting negative vibes from the crowd then it shows. And, in my opinion, it has been showing. The last show I went to I arrived at very happy, and because of the crowd when I finally got in, I was pissed for most of the show. I don't think that's the way it's supposed to be. Is it? Maybe I'm wrong. The last thing in this world that I want is to feel hostile toward other Tori fans. But lately it has been happening. It's a terrible thing. I'm done on this subject 'cuz now I'm in a bad mood. On another note- Thank you to Debbie for my tapes. This a public gesture of much love. They are fantastic and I am still in the process of enjoying them during the first listen. You rock, girl. Also....if I read something else about Persephone choosing to be stolen away by Hades, I am going to scream. In fact let's just assume I do, and save lots of time. I just sometimes think of things like this, and I have to say something or burst. Perhaps I'm a bit uptight as well, I like things to follow nice neat rules, my brain starts to twitch violently if things don't. Anyways you see I'm becoming really annoyed with the varying abbreviations of "from the choirgirl hotel". I don't know if there was initially a lack of consensus concerning abbreviations for the other albums, but I suspect not to this extent. I'll go through all the different ones I've seen. ftch (probably most correct, since the title is all lower case, and it includes one letter for each word) FtCH (seemed to be common at first, also used a lot before the actual release, one letter for each word, but easier to see than the above one) FtCGH (splits one word into two "choir" and "girl" instead of "choirgirl", Seems to be most used now) FtCgH (just saw this one today) CH (better than FtCGH, in my opinion, :)) Now I know I must seem nuts, but it seems to me that some abbreviation needs to be actually decided on. And i'll probably go completely mad, if it ends up being FtCGH. The only problem I have with that, is that choirgirl is split into two words, and as such two letters. This makes no sense. If that was at all the proper thing to do. Then "earthquakes" would of been split into "earth" and "quakes", and LE would of actually been shortened to LEQ. I am just citing precedent. All the other abbreviations seem to follow rules. You know one letter per word, All letters except those for 'articles', and 'prepositions', are upper case. If the prcendent of the previous shortenings are used, then the abbreviation should be FtCH (even though the title is all lower case). Probably my mad ranting, means nothing at all. And I'm going to get flamed for this. I'm not criticizing those here. In fact I suspect that people just used whatever they saw first, and didnt' think much about it. But since (what I can't help but think is) the wrong abbreviation has come into common use, I just couldn't keep my mad babblings to myself any longer. Oh and if anybody else out there was secretly wondering the same thing I was, but just never mentioned it. Then please come forward now. I would very much like to feel less disturbed. :) Matt - -- Matthew Skillings eternity@golden.net http://www.golden.net/~eternity/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ where the pretty girls are those demigods with their nine-inch nails and little fascist panties tucked in side the heart of every nice girl - Tori Amos ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 17:15:53 -0400 (EDT) From: Robert L Reynolds Subject: Re: No Cigarettes/Nicotine Patches Hi all! She said she liked it because it was the passing of night into morning, and she set her alarm every day for that time so she could see the time. Anyway, I haven't really thought too much about it until I heard the "6:58" in Spark - my question - was that the time? Does anyone have that interview still and know what her favourite time of the day was? Just wondering, I thought maybe there was that connection. Also, is anyone getting the Tori quote of the day yet? I really miss it! Thank you for reading. ~~~Andréa. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 18:40:35 -0400 From: "Nephilim" Subject: Re: Y Kant Tori Read >Someone asked me to comment on Tori's FIRST album, the 1988 release of Y Kant >Tori Read, that was only released on vinyl and was not very sucessful, Selling >wise onlY!!! >Today, YKTR is only available for Very very high prices on vinyl, and for >around 20-30 dollars on CD, as a bootleg... where did you get this information???? She has smoked pot though (when she was younger as well I think). Regarding annoying fans. I think I have to correct some of what I said in my last post. Apparantly not all fans in Europe are that disciplined, 'cos around 2 minutes after I sent off my post, a friend of mine who went to the Hamburg show, gave me her review. She saw Tori in Frankfurt with me as well, and said the meet n greet was completely different (fans were quiet during the show though). According to her, she was nearly squished after the show, and surrounded "by a bunch of screaming teenies" (her quote, not meant as a diss on teenagers). One woman yelled at the top of her lungs "TORRIIIIIIIIIII!!!! I LOVE YOU!!!!!". The screaming made Tori lose her patience with the crowd, prompting her to head for her tour bus after a whopping 3 minutes and not signing half of the stuff. So while I don't know how Tori likes the yelling during concerts, I do believe she isn't too comfortable with all the yelling and pushing outside the venue. By the way, her being a rockstar doesn't justify any crowd noise. I've been to rock concerts, and even lead singers of these bands would get pissed if people got too noisy. I have a bootleg of a pretty popular rockband, during which one girl continuously screams ("take your shirt off"). She was rewarded with a "shut the f*ck up" by the lead singer. But even less annoying remarks get a negative reaction from performers. sabrina ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 18:59:02 EDT From: BlueGirl88@aol.com Subject: Re: **FREE LYRIC BOOK!!!** Is there somewhere on the net that you can buy a lyric book? Ok, so I got tickets for Tori this summer. I wanted tickets to MSG, but was sent tickets to the Spectrum show in Philadelphia, by mistake. Well, I decided to keep the tickets to the Philly show, and stay over night. I think Philadelphia is only a couple of hours from me. Well, this is my problem. I'm not familiar with the area, so if anyone knows the area...could you tell me where to look for lodging. I'm not sure where the spectrum is close to, so I can't figure where to look for a hotel. Is the spectrum in South Philadelphia?? thanks. s ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Jun 1998 21:26:50 EDT From: JENNA96607@aol.com Subject: Re: seventeen/6:58?/toriquote I'm 19 years old now, and I've had a subscription to the magazine from the time I was 12 or 13, which would be around 92, I have EVERY SINGLE issue since then, well, up until a year a go. The quote you're mentioning is from an article called "A Few of Tori's Favourite Things", and she says: Time of day: "Six o'clock in the morning. It's the passing of the baton from night to day. I wake up to see it, but then I go back to sleep." Hmmm, possible connection, but it would be obscure at best. I do not have the article, but I remember to the T what you are talking about. It wasn't really an article, more like a little profile with favorite album (the White Album), favorite saying, and favorite time of the day. And it did not have a specific time, but it was sunrise. And I was thinking that in the winter, the sun doesn't rise until a little after seven (around DC anyways). And I believe I read somewhere that she would sit out on her parents' deck in FL when she lost the child and watch the sunrise. So maybe 6:58 is right before the sun rose in FL, or even the time it DID rise around the time in December that she lost her baby (after all FL is closer to the equator). Blood Roses really came to mind and now takes on a whole new life....the lines "when chickens get a taste of your meat" seem to express when tashi remembers her sister's death (b/c of an image of a girl's foot and a chicken) and starts painting this larger than life chicken on her bedroom wall...."you gave them your blood and your warm little diamond" must be about the olinkan female mutilation practices(i dont really want to get too graphic here explaining what the practice was) and "he likes killing you after you're dead" would mean the "death" that these women expreienced after the ritual in a spiritual sense, losing their sexuality, feminity, and any drive for life....another subtle connection, which may be a stretch, is when tori sings "the belle of new orleans tried to show me once how to tango" i thought may be about the american woman from new orleans who attempts to tell tashi that she was forced to undergo the same horrific practice and tashi refused to believe that such a thing happened in this free country, america....well, hopefully some of you have read this too and can tell me if you saw this, for those of you who have no idea what i'm talking about: go read the book!!! seriously though, it's amazing hugs, jenn - -- ************************************************* girls you've got to know, when it's time to turn the page when you're only wet, because of the rain........... ...maybe it's time to wave *goodbye* now. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V3 #225 *************************************
