Since I don't know your time zone in the US, I will tell you that it will come on from 5:30pm to 6pm in my time zone, remember I'm in Colombia (South America). To me it adds a shy bit of humor, sort of like the famous "you're only wet because of the rain" line. As for the "you say you don't want it," maybe when Tori first found out she was pregnant, she said she didn't want to have a baby, it would become too much of a crazy circus, what with touring and all that, yet deep in her heart she really, really wanted to have that child. That also would help explain why she at first blamed herself for the miscarriage. That's what I first thought when I heard the song, I think others have said close to the same thing but not exactly. Just my opinion. ~~Andréa. >Just another question about the Spark lyrics, most of it makes sense to me now >(thanks to you!), except for "she's addicted to nicotine patches". I had been meaning to post this for a while. When I first heard the nicotine patches phrases in "Spark", I immediately thought of a friend of mine who got on the patch when she became pregnant, in an attempt to quit smoking. She was trying to do something good for her child, but the truth is that the patch is more poison to an embryo than the actual cigarettes. She lost the baby soon after this. Also I believe that the nicotine patches could be a metaphor for the "crazy life" that one has to give up for one's child...in the song, she says "she's afraid of the light in the dark"...e.g., the baby. The dark being, of course, the sister metaphor to the nicotine patches. Its a teeter-totter of decision: light=baby, quest for stability....dark=nicotine patches, "crazy life". ~~taci~... "Last week I described and interpreted the tale of Persephone, a favorite of feminists from way back -- from even before there was a movement. I considered how Persephone might have wanted her abduction, or at least how her abduction is a part of the process of growing up." "Persephone was the young daughter of Demeter, the goddess of the harvest. One day, as her mother is tending to her broad fields of grain, Persephone goes strolling to pick flowers. As she leans low to pluck a particularly beautiful bloom, the ground opens up beneath her in a great fissure, and out springs Hades, Lord of the Underworld. He is appropriately large, and dressed in black, and accompanied by an enormous black chariot. The devil himself!" [editors note: ok, so we all know the bits about her abduction, and the eating of the pomegrante, which tied her to the underworld?] "as the great Renaissance painters have portrayed it, Persephone is raped or abducted. Those are the two most common verbs used in telling her tale. In other words, it was not her choice to be taken. She was a simple young woman, off to pick flowers and to test her destiny, and she was cruelly used by the fates and by old Hades." "But wait just a moment. What if it were her choice? What if Persephone had gone looking for a change? What if she were the one who wanted to get laid? What if she thought that the Lord of the Underworld was a pretty cool guy -- perfect for relieving her of her cumbersome virginity? Then this story becomes a myth about a young woman choosing her path, about growing up and moving out and experiencing deep sexual pleasure that has nothing to do with family or family position or home or duty." "Imagine Persephone, just apprehending adulthood and making a choice for herself, for her growth, for her truth. Suddenly she is closer to a nun than a rape victim, sacrificing the bounty of the Earth and the largesse of her mother and of all living things so that she can follow the spiritual call, so she can make the long, dangerous journey to follow the deep, underground river that courses within." "It's an enormous burden to be someone's immortality, to be his or her life force that will continue. It's yet another reason for Persephone to run into the arms of Hades and for all of us to turn from our mothers in anger in adolescence and sometimes long afterward" "But at the end of the tale, you can rest assured that Persephone was meant to be the Queen of the Underworld." i just really liked this. any interpretations on the reference of tori's to this? i am quite interested to hear an opinion. if you made it this far, thank you! i don't know who wrote this. remi glitergul@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 12:15:49 -0700 (PDT) From: the little blue farie Subject: spark... is it all that hard to find the three track u.s. single of spark?..so far i keep finding the two tracked one...and no imports... aleksandra _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!? I have a couple from Kansas that were pretty hellish, and the August 1996 show in Atlanta last year was just -horrible-. [snip rest] I dunno. I was very disappointed in the shows I attended, and pretty disappointed in what I saw. The behavior of much of the crowd was just unconscionable. There was the shouting. There was the pushing {and, in some cases, actual fighting} and shoving and everything else. There were people talking through the show. I've thought long and hard about going to see Tori again when she hits Atlanta again. The last show here left a horrific taste in my mouth, given the behavior of certain members of the audience. I can't say that I've ever been so bloody disappointed in a group who called themselves fans of Tori. The meet'n'greets were nasty affairs, full of pushing and kicking. The shows themselves were even worse. And after the show... well, the situation just didn't improve. I don't think that it makes one a "grumpy old man" to expect the audience to respect the performer on stage and to respect those around them. You're surrounded by rude assholes who are there for reasons I'll never grok {why go to a show if you're going to babble through the whole damned thing?}. *shrug* May the shows you go to have good security, so that those who feel the need to talk/scream/etc through the show can be escorted out. We certainly could've used much better security at the Atlanta club show. /nad ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 15 Jun 1998 23:36:27 EDT From: HapyFantm@aol.com Subject: re: necklaces...
