I was just reading the lyrics to "Cooling" (song that must be beautiful but unfortunately have not had a chance to hear) someone posted and she repeatedly names a "piggy" that go her a " message from Jesus". Is it just me or isn't this an extrely clear reference to NIN? I mean, there's a song on "The Downward Spiral" called "Piggy" and another one called "March Of The Pigs". Hadn't anyone though about this? Giovanni http://come.to/corncity ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 20:52:55 -0500 From: "Giovanni" Subject: First singles? Hey, I was just thinking about this. Which, out of all the *first singles* for all the albums (let's include YKTR too, if you want), do you like the best? That is: Y Kant Tori Read: The Big Picture Little Earthquakes: Silent All These Years Under The Pink: God (US), Cornflake Girl (UK). Boys For Pele: Caught A Lite Sneeze. from the choirgirl hotel: Spark. I think. I would have to definitely go with Caught A Lite Sneeze. It is just one of the most amazing songs anyone's ever written. The harpsichord, the piano, the drums, the bass, the singing, the ambient, the feeling, everything on that song just blows me away. Second, I would have to go with the Under The Pink singles. God or Cornflake Girl. Both are favorites of mine, just like any other Tori tune. Then... umm... maybe Silent All These Years. Then... Spark. And finally The Big Picture. But that's only for now. Besides, I like them all equally. I just think Caught A Lite Sneeze was the *perfect* album opener. But, what do you think? Giovanni http://come.to/corncity ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Jun 1998 21:41:42 -0400 From: "Jennifer Jacobsen" Subject: tori? A girl that I know said that she had seen Tori. Tori came into a candy store that she was working in and hid out in there so to speak and they talked and Tori told the girl that she did not really believe in fairies that that was just a thing she did to see how many people would believe her and "buy it." Now I do not know about you guys but if this is really true, I would be really upset b/c then Tori just wouldn't be Tori anymore. First... Jewel's songs are so folky and contain a lot of umm... simple imagery. Tori's lyrics are far more interesting and intriguing. I don't have anything against Jewel, but saying that any Tori song sounds like any Jewel song is just a bit too ridiculous for me. "Northern lad" has a Hey Jupiter feel to it, but I consider a completely different song. And it is just so beautiful. And about all the BfP discussion. I would have to say that lately I've been getting more into BfP than UtP and LE. Well, no more than into ftcgh, I mean. I took the In The Springtime Of His Voodoo single to school today and Wow, that song just fails to bore me. It is just so cleverly sexy. Oh, Tori I love you. I couldn't POSSIBLY make a list saying that LE is my favorite. for example, and the others are behind. No way. I just can't compare them. They're just so different, wonderful and so Tori. I love them all. Also, I got the Q Mag (thank you Cynthia!)... it is so great! I'd wish we had magazines half as good as this where I live. And hopefully I will get the Rolling Stone one soon. Giovanni http://come.to/corncity PS. And I only have 12 Tori CDs and 1 video. Argh. But it could be a lot worse I guess. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 21:02:00 -0500 From: "Giovanni" Subject: UK singles Hey, I was just reading another newsletter and I came across this: "Basically, they are cutting the allowed time, 40 mins, in half, so now any CD singles will be a maximum of 20 mins long. That means less alternate tracks and remixes, which, say the BPI, are being used to rip people off. The news that is supposed to be good is that they are cutting the price of singles to a maximum of 2.99 pounds sterling." Whoever wrote this was talking about the British Phonographic Industry (BPI). So this means no more single EPs that run over 40 minutes. This could seem as bad news, but once you think about it, it somehow forces artists (maybe not) to put out the b-sides or remixes that cannot go on the single, on new "unreleased tracks" or "remix" albums, which is always good. How long are the UK Spark singles? They shouldn't be longer than 20 min. anyway. Hey do any of you guys & gals remember that girl said that she was going to giver her aunt letters to give to Oprah Winfrey that talked about Tori & RAINN so that maybe we could get her on the show sometime ? What ever happened to that ? Did the letters ever get delivered or no ?...just wondering... peace out~ catherine =) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 3 Jun 1998 21:52:35 -0500 From: "Giovanni" Subject: Ugh Hey, I was just reading Sonicnet's (www.sonicnet.com) review for Tricky's new album "Angels With Dirty Faces" and it has this cute little stab at out Tori near the end. "In an age where the term "alternative" has become debased to the point where it can refer to vapid airheads like Tori Amos (alternative to what?), Tricky restores the term to its original meaning. He's the alternative to the alternative, and Angels With Dirty Faces is as challenging as anything that will be released this year. " http://www.addict.com/html/lofi/Reviews/44.1kHz/Tricky/Angels_With_Dirty_Fac es.html I thought it was SOOOOO lame of this stupid reviewer to call Tori a "vapid airhead" just to favor his opinion Tricky's great work, 'cause I'm sure the CD is great, but this stupid guy, Johnny Walker (Black) is nothing but a lame reviewer.
