Under the Pink: I think it was here she became most experimental as an artist, therefore cementing her as not only an adaptable artist, but also someone who can deliver good music twice. 2. Boys For Pele: WICKED WICKED WICKED. Another fusion of music, highly emotional, and wicked sounds. 3. Little Earthquakes: Good, if not a little boring, but tracks like Precious Things and the title track make the album totally complete.. also has good "If-I-Were-A-Lesbian" attitude. (No offence meant) 4. Choirgirl Hotel: A little more depressing, and daring, but it's steadily growing on me. Playboy Mommy, Cruel, and She's Your Cocaine are cool tracks; but Pandora's a tad too boring for my preferences. This letter has been approved by Ambrosia. I love them >all. I've been considering this subject since it was brought up. When I was told in June, 92 to pick up LE, I had no idea what Tori Amos would come to mean to me and my whole journey through therapy. Tori and Therapy started at the same time for me. So Little Earthquakes was my anchor through all the emotional storms I was enduring. I held on to the piano as the sweet soprano cut through the screams in my mind. Little Earthquakes today is the album I hold dearest to my heart, the one I am so grateful for. Under the Pink arrived about the time I was starting to accept what my life had been, all the horrors that I had locked away were now again visible to me. So the girls on pink helped me learn how to make sense of what I was learning to feel. I had broken through my iron skin and burrowed deep under the pink and wasn't really fond of what I was finding. I was not only a victim, but a victimizer in my attempts for survival over the years. It was hard to deal with, but pink helped me through it. Boys for Pele arrived at a point in my life that I was gathering the courage to break with my old life (husband, etc.) and truly move out on my own for the first time in my life. I had always had someone to depend on, be it roommates, lovers or whatnot. So I was recognizing that I was not utilizing my own fire, just living off of others. This album "shocked me sane" in a way and definately gave me enough courage to finally do it (one year ago June 5!). from the choirgirl hotel has entered my life and inspired a novel. It plays everyday and while my hands are busy typing and my eyes are reading and my mind is working overtime, my ears grasp all the nuances of this musical masterpiece and settles my soul. I am really turning my soul inside out for this book and am so grateful that choirgirl is helping me build it. So you see, there is no way for me to rate these albums. Each, like a child or friend, hold a special place in my heart. I love them all equally yet in different ways. It isn't so much the piano, voice, or lately, the band that I am listening to. It's the fact that Tori plays with her whole body, Mind, Heart and Soul. She gives to her audience that which I try to give to mine; true, pure honesty, human truths spoken in a human way. UtP is a far better album than BfP. I love them both. But UtP is still better. This would be my ranking 1. Little Earthquakes-Reason, She came in the music world using both barrel. It displays all her musical talents and singing abilities 2. FtCGH- reason, Tori broke new ground, in a sence recreating herself but still has her distinct personality. 3. UtP- Reason, Its a continuation of LE. But more centralized in the style. 4. BfP-Reason, It was my first album, love some of the songs, actually all of them. Just a little confusing. This was a transitional album. You can hear her experimenting with differnt sound and music styles. But it is still good. As for the ongoing "which songs you like/hate" debate, I thought I'd add my theory into the chaos. Anyway, I tend to like any music with emotion in it, but I particularly like songs or pieces of music which echo how I feel or have felt at one time or another. If you can see yourself in a song then you can identify with the emotions within it, and I think that makes the music more endearing. Maybe the songs which people "Can't get into" are those which they don't identify with as much. I am not saying that they have never had that experience or felt that way, just that the song or the lyrics or the music doesn't envoke a response. Personally, I think that BfP is the best of the LE/UtP/Bfp three, as it is the one with the most emotion, the most pain and the most beautifully touching music which covers a complete spectrum of human experience. Just contrast _Putting the Damage On_ with _Professional Widow_ for example. And I love the new album too - incl. Raspberry Swirl. The 2 tracks I don't identify as much with are _Liquid Diamonds_ and _Pandora's Box_ for some reason. I haven't quite worked out why, but my all-time favourite has to be _Playboy Mommy_ which can still make me cry each time I hear it. Anyway, everyone is going to have different tastes and different views, which I think reflect's their personality somewhat. I mean there has to be something in a song which appeals to you to make you like it, so the fact that you like/hate a song must reflect on you. There's no right or wrong answer. ok, enough ramblings, I've bored everyone enough already! WeScreamInCathedrals WhyCan'tItBeBeautiful? I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm getting very worried. Has anyone heard *anything* at all about tickets to the Nashville show on Aug. 25? Does anyone know if they'll be available through Ticketmaster or only through the Opry box office? Any idea of the price? *Sale date?* Any rumors? News? Anything? :-( I'm really sorry if this message annoys anyone, but I'm afraid I won't find out when they go on sale and then I'll miss the date. I called the Opry's "ticket information number" (haha, what a joke!), but you only get automated recordings and they don't mention Tori at all. I really cannot miss this show. :-) If you have any info, please e- mail me privately so as not to annoy people any more than I probably already have. ;-) Thanks, Estrella45@aol.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 03 Jun 1998 20:16:21 -0400 From: Len Alan Demby Subject: Re: 1 word descriptions of Tori's albums Hello Everybody, Here are my 1 word descriptions of Tori's album: LE: COOL UtP: NEATO BfP: FABOOO FTCGH: BITCHIN My ranking would be as follow: 1.
