If you are a new Toriphile (this is not just a responce for "toast" but also for any other new Toriphile who had a question they haven't researched first), it is a MUST that you search the internet for answers to your questions. There are something like 40,000 Tori-based websites out there and most of them contain information on just about any question you could possibly have. ESPECIALLY the question "who is this Neil guy?" These lists are wonderful and very helpful if you have questions, but I would definitely recommend that you search the available info on the www first. It's easier and it cuts down on the mail, esp. for those of us on multiple lists! :) There is so much out there; you might find out more than you ever wanted to know. I just wanted to say that probably right now I really like the song Hotel, at first i really didn't like it too much, but I love how she sings "you were wild/where are you now?" and "where are the velvets," my favourite songs before were Raspberry Swirl and Jackies Strength, but not any more, I still really like them, but any ways. Okay, now I'm kind of dumb and not alive when major things happened that Tori writes about such as when she mentions in "Way Down" Son of Sam, I just found out who he was, so the song is like just starting to make sense to me because I was watching one of those like special news shows that aren't really the news and they had this whole thing on Son of Sam, so it the whole song suddenly like clicked to me...I'm so dumb!!! And lastly, I just wanted to say, my brother is taking me to the Milwaukee Tori concert for my birthday!!!!! I am sooooo excited, July 15, yes...except ok, I have learned to stop writing Tori because she doesn't usually get the letters, but um, would you think it would be possible for me to like put a letter in an envelope and either give it to her or her body guard? Everybody knows I'm her friend, everybody knows I'm her man=I don't need you, I have myself. Its a liberating sorta song for me.. I feel power when I hear it.. Like children > often are. i have always thought by that line tori was referring to jesus' returning after 3 days in the grave. in other words, in the song jesus is telling her, if you're thinking about doing something destructive to yourself, think long and hard, cos you aren't jesus, and you won't be coming back in 3 days. if you die, you die... as far as son of sam, i recall about as much of that as you noted. he was a postal worker/murderer. as far as the reference in the song, "yes, i am the anchorman, dining here with son of sam", i think tori is saying that she is hanging out with someone who could potentially do her great harm--i think the anchorman reference is presenting herself as an interface, a public face that she wears for appearances when she knows she's dealing with people (industry) who could rip her to shreds... another view of it that i have is that she is choosing to hang with someone that most people would run screaming from--the shadow exploration thing again... in the context of the song, i think she's talking about fame, fandom, not having a private life... it looks good on the outside, meeting and being a star, great big car... but way down she knows that's all BS and not who _she_ is... hope that helps... :) let me know other interpretations that you find... i think that's the coolest thing bauot tori's lyrics--they're impressionistic--many layers, no one meaning... dream well! - -kelley > > Love, > Sara/Polyethylene > keep all surfaces clean ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V3 #202 *************************************
