The way she's like BANGING the crap out of the piano in that song is so awesome, and accoustically, it would hold as much energy as Tori gave CFG on the DDI tour. I haven't seen it posted to the lists. If this has already been mentioned, please excuse me. I'm operating on zero sleep this weekend. I'm only quoting the first paragraph of five: Tori Storms The Top Five May 21, 1998 Tori Amos has achieved a personal best with the initial sales of her just-released fourth solo album, from the choirgirl hotel. Debuting at #5 on SoundScan's "Top Current Albums" chart, the album logged first-week sales of over 153,000 copies -- besting Tori's previous top sales debut, 1996's platinum BOYS FOR PELE, by a remarkable 40 per cent. On the international front, the album debuted at #6 on the U.K. chart, along with top-charting debuts in Iceland (#2), Norway (#9), Ireland (#10), and Germany (#13). The first-week response to the album was also driven by a series of Atlantic-sponsored "midnight madness" sales held at some 120 stores nationwide. The celebratory scene from a "midnight madness" event at Desirable Discs in Dearborn, Michigan, where all of the store's 90 copies of the album went home in the hands of happy fans, was even included as part of the local news broadcast. In the July '98 issue of Musician magazine Tori says, ...I really have to not become a number on a pop chart. It's like your worth, if they say you're only number 68. and in another place in the same article, But once your record get out and you get your number. . .I mean, every week, it's like, [cringing] "I don't wnat to know!" Don't tell me I'm 170. It's like, is that what I'm worth, this number? Tori's music is what's important to me; not the numbers. But it's still wonderful to see ftch kicking some serious chart ass. Hi Guys.. Well, it's going to be a swift post again, I'm afraid (firstly, apologies for the apalling apostrophe error in the last post... ... I blame the Tori...) because... well, the idea was that I saw Manchester, Liverpool and Wolverhampton... Well I just came back from Glasgow! :o This is why... Manchester. That show was the most unnerving, wonderful experience. Tori played the best set I've ever heard her play, with so many little improvisations and additions that you just had to be in awe. The surprise inclusion of "Playboy Mommy" (well, actually not surprising when you spent the day with the person who asked for the song, but hey..) which Tori finds hard to play, the resurrection of "Cocaine" and best yet, the scrapping of the set list, when Tori didn't return and play "Horses" (which I don't like any more live - the new version is too different), but instead played a solo piano "China" which left me in tears for a good 20 minutes after the show. Other inclusions were an improv section at the end of "God" which went something like "jesus you dropped a bomb on me - dropped a bomb on me, jesus... and you know, you'll do it again... you dropped a bomb on me, you dropped a bomb on me, jesus" and continued in the same vain. She actually did this again the following night in Glasgow, so perhaps this is a permanent fixture now. Before the manic "Raspberry Swirl", she said... "heheh la la la la .. this is my faaaaavourite bit...." then Matt (the man with 6 arms) suddenly kicked in on the oil-drum thing he plays and off we went... According to the set list, in her solo spot, she should have played "Sugar", but instead, as you'll see on the set list on MikeWhys page, she played "Cloud On My Tongue" I have to say that last night's show in Glasgow wasn't as good - better than Liverpool, but not a patch on Manchester. I got 10th row tickets (on the night! can you believe?) but Tori decided that the first 5 rows were allowed to dance, so that made the view a little worse than you might have expected. The only inclusion that set the tears flowing for me was "Jackie's Strength" which is just as excellent live as it is on record. The solo spot last night was "Leather" and "Baker Baker", with a lyrical twist of "If you see her, say 'Hi'", which I later found out to be because of a letter she had received that day. It was Caton's birthday yesterday (41) - but Tori didn't mention it. A couple of us yelled out "Happy Birthday, Steve!" but she didn't say anything. She told a story about the preceding night which I'm afraid I can remember, but it was about a Lord bothering her - she was having a drink, and this guy (who introudced himself as Lord whatever) started pestering her and saying "can I sit down with you for 5 minutes" kind of thing... eventually she got rid of him. It was just like a story about the Scottish and the English and all the rest. She also said that she preferred Scottish and Northern crowds to those down South... Anyway.... more later. HELL NO! hahaha I mean i dislike most country music, and i do live in Nashville, but this is perfect for us. For one thing I have to say....Last month a tornado ripped through DOWNTOWN Nashville causing 100 million dollars worth of damage, so the 2 places Tori's played here that are bigger than club size are basically fucked from damage, so she *can't* play there in August. She played the Ryman AudiTORIum in 94 and it was the old Grand Ole Opry. The new one is in another location and its a nice size, not too big, all seats are good seats, so i get to see her in a more personal setting. I think its a perfect place for Tori to sing. Its also not *just* for country singers either. When I talekd to Tori on the 96 tour when she was here in town, she said she loved Nashville, and that it had one of the best music aura's for her. So basically, its not an arena, that in itselfs makes me happy. Plus its got fucking great acoustics in the Grand Ole Opry. Also, as he said I am still accepting donations towards this cause, as we did fall about a grand short of the final cost (not to mention Jeff pays the $150+ a month operating costs....so I myself wouldn't mind seeing us foot the whole bill for the hardware :-) Also, also - I'd like to announce that the deadline for me to receive donations where you would be eligible for one of the door prizes is next weekend, as I am going to randomly pick the winners next Sunday May 31st, meaning donations I receive in the mail by next Saturday the 30th will be eligible. No matter if you donated one dollar or two-hundred fifty dollars, you have an equal chance for any of the prizes. (All of the door prizes are Jewel related) In addition to a bunch of Jewel key chains & Jewel pins, I have the seven Jewel autographed items listed below (at the end of this email). These items were autographed by Jewel herself, not some stamp, not another person, not some machine. (People have been asking me if her presigned poetry books that are available at various Virgin Megastore bookstores around the USA were actually signed by her....that I cannot answer, as I don't have an answer) I might add that the odds of winning one of these autographed items isn't too bad, since as of this moment there's only been 145 donations sent in. So the odds right now are just a tad over 20-1. To donate, send cash, check or money order. PLEASE make out any checks or money orders to Jeff Wasilko. Send donations to: Mike Connell PO Box 1206 Binghamton NY 13902-1206 This is the last time I'll be ringing that bell :-) Again, I wish to thank all of you who have donated already, all who may soon do so, and all of you who belong to any smoe.org mailing list, as it is the people and their love of the artists' music that make these lists special :-) To see what artists mailing lists exist for on smoe.org, check out http://www.smoe.org/lists cybernetly yours, Mike :-) P.S.
