Even tho' Tori saw it as a sell-out at the time, some of the lyrics are extremely self-affirming. "Cool on your Island" is empowering, a woman saying to her partner, "Hey, I've had enough! You start treating me better or you are going to be *so* alone". Even "Fire on the Side", where it is a situation that I'm opposed to, she is still giving the woman a voice to demand what she feels is hers. So in my quest to "take over the world", I look for the words that say, I can do this on my own. And please don't hate me, but LE, UtP, and BfP all dealt with certain relationships and regret and loss. Only in YKTR (imho, of course), does the empowerment of One come through. Now, when I'm after the vibes--I don't need to take over the world, I just need to feel one within myself, that's when I *need* LE, UtP & BfP. When I'm not looking to *take* energy from the music, but for the music to help me feed myself with understanding, that's when the Tori we all know and love is important to me. But if I need to grab the world by the balls, Welp--I grab some pirates to help me conquer all the floating cities. gawd, I'm pretty deep for 3am. *smerk* Fairy Blessings, Bethey I'm OK when everything's not OK cause it's the Fairies Revenge they say and I have always been a Fairy *************************************************************** I gave my life to become the person I am. I think it will appear in the April 4, 1998 issue, but I am not sure yet. This article was found on AOL by Toriphile Jordy Keith. You can read the entire article on the Dent, but here is a summary of what it tells us: * The piano is not center-stage on "from the choirgirl hotel". Tori says, "The piano's more integrated into the sound now....I'd taken the 'girl and the piano' thing as far as I could, and I really wanted to be a player with other players. It was very important for my growth as a musician to play with other musicians instead of having them play around me." * The album will be promoted with TV appearances on Letterman and Leno, "as well as cover stories in Rolling Stone (May 5) and Musician (July). Album Network will broadcast a syndicated radio program based on Amos' April 30 show at Park West in Chicago." * A clip for "Spark" was shot March 21-24 in the U.K. by video director James Brown. * Amos will be the first artist to participate in a promotion by Tower Records and AT&T whereby customers who purchase albums at the chain's stores or World Wide Web site will be able to download bonus tracks exclusive to the promotion. In Amos' case, the non-album track "Merman" will be available to Tower customers April 7. * Tori talks about the upcoming North American club tour. She says it "will be for the kids that stand in line, not for the schmooze crowd." "I'm ready to bring all the records together live and play some of the old music too, now live, in this way." * Following the club engagements, Amos will begin a two-year world tour in the U.K. that will hit various points in Europe throughout the spring. Then she will play the U.S. during the summer shed season. * "Spark" will be released as a single in Europe & the U.K. on April 20. With the DDI tour, the program says Dew Drop Inn 1996-97, but it ended in November 1996 (I forget the exact date). Maybe at the start she expected to continue touring into 1997, but then she was expecting a baby so decided to cut it short. This is only speculation, mind you. A lot of people are willing to tape shows but have no equipment. Some people have good equipment, but aren't going to EVERY show. So... why not share equipment? If it's done online, discussed with the group, and all info is shared (phone #, address, etc) then it's safe. And people can just mail the equipment, priority mail, then after taping a show, mail it back to the owners, with a copy of the show. I personally would like to record every show I attend, including the Atlanta show at the Roxy. However, I have only a cheap little Sony tape recorder, which i used on the last tour, and didn't get amazing sound. And at the moment I cannot afford a portable DAT recorder or a really good analog recorder. Hopefully, by the time the big US tour comes around, I'll have better stuff. So, if anyone likes this idea, or has anything to add, or suggestions, or whatever, please let us know. We need good recordings and we don't need to spend insane amounts of money on over-priced bootlegs. j'ason ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Mar 1998 14:55:05 -0800 (PST) From: hewlett packard deskjet Subject: Re: sexiest Tori songs i think the most sexy tori song is siren...not necessarily the message, but it makes me want to get up and dance like a slinky whore um...yeah Jodio - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I go from day to day I know where the cupboards are I know where the car is parked I know he isn't you - - t.a. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- you know you're gonna lie to you - - t.a. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Mar 1998 16:07:50 -0500 From: Tripp Gwyn Subject: Need Lyrics for 2 Unreleased Songs.. Amos told the Finnish magazine Rumba that several songs on the album were inspired by a miscarriage she had at the conclusion of her last tour. While candid and confessional lyrics are de rigeur for Amos, the album is definitely a musical departure, as a rock band backs her for the first time since her little-heard debut. The twelve-song effort includes such cryptic titles as "iiiee," "Raspberry Swirl," "Playboy Mommy," and "She's Your Cocaine." The first single from choirgirl hotel, "Spark," is already on the airwaves.
