They want to issue the cease and desist letters because the existence of clips on the net threatens their little deal with Tower and AT&T to offer it for MONEY over the net. But why would I use the word facism? Think about it-what do corporations, slave societies and facist goverments all have in common? The power structure. It is a structure in wich the majority of power is consentrated for the prosperus few over the remaining many who have no say in decisions that will affect them. Shure, some people can advise changes but that's it. Why should we, the people of the world let corpoations decide what we should and should not listen to? Or decide what we should watch on television, see at the movies or read in the newspaper? We are horrified when goverments control the media and yet we are conditioned to say nothing of the concentration of corporate power accumulating buying up TV and radio stations, magazine companies, internet providers. We should remember that market wise, news and entertainment is no more than a commercialized commodity used to sell to advertisers. If the advertisers do not make money then your favorite TV show gets cancelled, and if the advertisers feel that a certain hard hitting expose will make them lose money, then so much for journalism. Some people can justify it by calling it "free market democracy" but how can this be democracy when only the rich and powerful can have control over media outlets? Noam Chomsky has written several good books about it (Necessary Illusions:Thought Control in Democratic Societies; Manufacturing Consent (with Edward S. Herman) ). Other good authors-Laura Flanders, Edward S. Herman, Norman Solomon and Martin A. Lee. This song is scheduled for release sometime around the third week of April. Several radio stations in the US have already played the song but Tori's management says that was not supposed to happen. So for now it looks like we'll just have to sit tight and wait for the single to be officially released. Well, apparentlly... All the promo singles that have appeared at 6 different stations MAGICALLY, maybe it were those sneaky faeries that popped into the "We holding out on fans to make more and more money" BIN and stole the "Secret SIngle" and poof! We have spark! I think everyone else has made pertinent observations about AtRecs ploy to get more money. Well Spark wasn't "supposed to happen".... but it did... so now what do we do? I think what Beth said was pretty appropriate. Be calm, or we will never get another secret single! Hehe, but in the meantime. Thank you to those special faeries that selected us to be the special few to tastetest Spark! =D Best wishes, Laura ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Mar 1998 05:38:44 -0600 From: lilchibi@flash.net Subject: US TOUR DATES HERE! Tori will perform with a band for the first time in her solo career in venues that will be specifically selected to be "not too big,but not too small." Tori wants this tour to be fan-driven and tickets will be sold only through the box office at each venue. Since these tickets are expected to be in heavy demand Tori wants to make every effort to get tickets directly to going through scalpers or ticket agencies. To that end, we have received word that there will be a limit of two tickets per person. Furthermore, ID will be required when purchasing tickets and being admitted to the venue. (Well, for buying an album at Tower, but that is >the same thing.) Actually *that* was the real reason I thought Atlantic was getting all wound up about Spark being available online. I figured that they couldn't be too happy knowing that any Tori fan with web access would have heard Spark by April, and in that case, which person in their right mind would still go to Tower and buy a CD, just so they could listen to a song, that has been online for a while (and for free as well). But when I read posts about that being a PR strategy of Atlantic's, that made sense too, 'cos any smart business-man, would know that a song played on radio, was bound to wind up on the net. And I just had a really strange thought... imagine *if* Tori would take the name Hawley (I doubt she would, but you never know)... well, if she released her future stuff under that name, wouldn't it be odd seeing part of her releases under the A-section of a record store, and the newer stuff under the H-section? I just had to smile when I thought of Toriphiles dashing between the A and H-section, and anyone who came in the store would immediately say "lemme guess... a Tori fan?" just a silly thought cruising thru my head =) and to anyone going to see Tori on her club tour, all I can say is.. AT&T intorduced a2b music "to promote and deliver CD-quality music quickly and securely over the Internet." This all started at the end of last year with the Verve Pipe and a deal made with RCA/BMG. Ya know the deal, buy a CD from them, get secret code download special song. Quote from some Dave guy on the subject: "Delivery of online music is an excellent example of a profitable application for soft goods distribution," said David Nagel, AT&T Labs president and AT&T's chief technology officer. "We look forward to working with RCA/BMG and others in the music industry to forge new paths for participants at all levels of the electronic commerce value chain." Key word here: PROFITABLE! "The goal of bringing AT&T...[is] to provide the consumer with more options to purchase the album,...and the trusted brand to help us show how digital distribution can be an effective and complementary vehicle for marketing and selling music." So is this just a marketing ploy, not only for AtRecs and Tower Music, but AT&T TOO? OH DA HAWWA! STOP THE INSANITY! Maybe we should do something, but what? Mainly I just wanna know if it is a *NEW* song, or just song on the album being release ahead of schedule. If you wanna read the whole article about AT&T's new technology and what they planned to do with The Verve Pipe. http://www.att.com/press/1197/971103.ala.html Also, if you wanna check out the site that will be hosting these downloads, check out www.a2bmusic.com Turns out you have to download additional software to hear this stuff. But they do have FREE samples! Belinda Carlise(sp) and some other weird people! Just though you guys might wanna know. Get your free @yahoo.com address at http://mail.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 17 Mar 1998 16:57:37 -0600 From: A Faerie Subject: General Tour Info.....DON'T Quote me on this though!` Since this club tour is supposedly thru venue's only i talked to a friend in Miami of mine where they had something like this with a special NIN Concert....this is what she has told me about it and it *might* be much like what may be going on with this tour, i'm not totally possitive mind you, but this is just to bring to your attention This is what happened when she got tickets to see a special 2 day NIN show. They sold vouchures, in whcih two tickets where included. You had to go to the venue to buy the vouchure (limit of one which is two tickets perperson). The person that *bought* the tickets had to arrive before the show *WITH* ID and the other person they bought it with, then also showing ID. They had to have *all* full names of the people with tickets, thus cutting out chances for scalping, because you couldn't get it without showing an id card. So basically if 2 people went and bought tickets (4 total-2 perperson) the two people that bought them HAD to go, noone could go in their place, and the other tickets were their 'guest' if you will, which also had their names down on a rooster (sp?) sheet. Just something to think about in doing this and getting tickets for other people. Its a good idea for no scalpers, but it sucks for fans outside of these cities. Some of this sounds like what is going on so far with the club tour, but im not sure they will go to that extent, we shall see. I called the Roxy just to find out when tickets went on sale, no answer at any of the numbers (if you needs those the numbers are: 404-233-7699 and the office 404-223-1862 (i think).
