[double snip] I agree. Tori's got a lot of songs that could easily be interpreted as arguments w/an exbf. If I remember right, Blood Roses is another song that's based upon Alice Walker's book, _Possessing the Secret to Joy_, particularly the 'when chickens get a taste of your meat' part. There's apparently (I haven't read the book yet, so I can't say for certain, but perhaps someone else can verify) a rather graphic part reguarding a young girl, her sister, and female circumcision. I thought it might be interesting to note that Tori, when asked, says she does NOT get to read all her fan mail, but some other people usually respond to it, and that if you really want her to read something, the best way to get it to her is to bring it to her at a concert and leave it backstage. There's 2 interviews on this CD, and they're from when she was promoting BfP, and they're like 40 min. in length (together), and might I say the best interviews I've heard with her. More detail. Not too serious and deep. More fun. Audience participation questions. Quite good! - -jen ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 06 Mar 1998 08:21:47 +0000 From: Molly Bass Subject: More on Blood Roses Hi all... I may be a little late but after reading all the posts about Blood Roses I couldn't help but say something. I don't think anyone should criticize anyone else for what they interpret the song to mean. The beautiful thing about all art is that we can draw so many things from it based on our experience and knowledge, things that maybe even the artist didn't intend. I believe if Tori wanted us to decide on a definite meaning of each song then she would come out and tell us straight up, now sometimes she provides little side remarks but I think she still understands we need to be able to get our own personal meaning out of each song. I don't think it is so important that everyone should try to decide on what a certain song means...just get what you want/need from the song...that is what is so great about music. Just my opinion **Molly Marguerite** ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 06 Mar 1998 09:35:23 -0500 From: Jennifer Cypres Subject: Let's Not Go Overboard! I don't think that anyone was criticizing on here about the meaning of Blood Roses. As I recall when i personally posted about this i said "what this means to me" and "how i take it". I don't think that we were trying to come up with a particaular ON TARGET meaning in the song, we are expressing to each other about what this song would mean in certain parts to ourselves, not that we want to hit the bulls eye for what tori was writing about, as this is what this list is for correct? Everyone interprets things differenly based on their own personal live experieces.....so everyone may view tori's song lyrics differently. This was just something innocent and OPINIONated, it wasn't lameing on people being wrong, i don't remember anyone ever saying 'no thats not right'. We have indeed. And my reading of the current frame of mind here in Online Toriville is that some folks are ready, at the drop of a hat, to lead a torchlit procession to the virtual home of anyone such as yourself--the 300th person to ask your question on the lists since the time frame of these shows was announced a number of weeks back--and to take out their frustrations on their hide, as there really is no definitive further information available at this time for *any* of those shows. I hope you didn't get harmed too badly from any excoriating replies in private mail. I think some folks have lost their manners at this point. My personal suspicions are that getting all the North American club dates verified with all the special ticket-selling requirements Tori's camp has said they're to be putting into place is taking a bit of doing, and that none of the dates are going to be announced until they *all* are. If I'm right about that, then not having a confirmable situation in any of the cities in question would also hang up the anouncement of the rest of them. We are still six weeks and one day from the club tour's announced start date of April 18, so it could easily be another week or more before an announcement, and still leave us with a month's notice. In the meanwhile, my strong suggestion to you and to everyone else is to toddle on over to Michael Whitehead's web site to see what he has to say about all this, all the private email he's been getting on it, etc. And realize that if you subscribe to any of the Tori lists--fear not-- accidentally not hearing about these shows once they've been announced will be about as likely as attending a Pentacostal revival without hearing about Jesus.
