I've had a little idea, and I'm hoping someone will be willing to take part in it with/for me. Basically, we all know we've got a lot of releases coming up, and that we're going to all be wanting versions from all over the world of at least the singles. What I propose is that we all try and pair up a little. Personally, I'm looking for two people - one in the US, and one in Australia with whom I can trade all the singles as they come out. The deal is this - I send you every UK single as it comes out (both parts, if that's relevant to the release), and in exchange, you send me every US/Australian single (again, both parts, if relevant) as it they come out. It's a nice fair system, everyone saves on import charges and import times if we post them on the day of release, and everyone gets copies of the CDs that they want? If we look at Pele, this would have worked out :- UK 2*CALS , US 2*CALS UK 2*TALULA, US 2*TALULA UK Jupiter, US Jupiter UK PW (Mix), US PW (Mix) UK 2* Blue Skies, US Voodoo So, OK, the guy in the UK would have been one down, but still, it works for the most part. If anyone thinks this is a good idea and would like to do this for/with me, then get in touch. It would be nice if it was someone who I'd previously traded with (so we both know how reliable we are ) but I'm not *that* fussy.. Anyway, this is just a preliminary idea, but if anyone is interested.. "Picture This," Amos told Q. "There's a photocopy office, the fluorescent light is still buzzing and there I am snogging the massive machine in the corner. The only way you can stay on the machine is to have a piece of your body suctioned onto it. It takes seven minutes a picture." Due out in May, the album was recorded in Amos's 300-year-old Cornish barn, which she converted into a studio with her new husband, the album's engineer, Mark Hawley. A while ago, someone recommended Ms Nina to me as a good chanteuse, and after about a year, I found a CD of hers for cheap and said, "why not?" When I got it, I was stunned at how beautiful her music is - she's mainly known as a highly theatrical jazz singer who accompanied herself, and she has a strong, beautiful voice and solid, fiery presence. On reading the liner notes, I found quite a few similarites between Ms Simone and our little red-haired girl. Like Tori, Nina was a child prodigy at the piano and accompanied her Methodist church in hymns, but grew up to become a singer who accompanied herself with beautiful keyboard accompaniment. She first rose to popularity in the 1960s, at a time when the country was in a great deal of turmoil, and her activism and loyalty to her race came through clearly through her music. I'm relating this poorly, both through my own linguistic inadequacies and the handful of facts I know about her - so perhaps the similarities between Nina and Tori aren't all I see them to be. In any event, Nina is a wonderful artist worth seeking out, and though she's not as obviously a forebear, I think of her amazing skill and commitment to causes she believed in as a striking similarity. Hey, both she and Tori covered "Strange Fruit", and I would lovelovelove to hear Tori cover "Little Girl Blue"... love me leave me let me be lonely, Chelsea *^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Chelsea the Mod Pixie tugboat@channel1.com *^*^*^*^*^*^*^* Cinnamon Stick magazine (coming soon online) *^*^*^*^*^*^*^* "I dare not hope and yet I must that through this deed I gain your trust." - --_Oscar and Lucinda_ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Feb 1998 23:28:50 -0000 From: "Mike Gray" Subject: Re: Regarding Marriage, possible new track spoiler... >Well, considering Tori and Mark are married...I wonder if this means For >Mark will be on the new album. I imagine it will probably be a B-SIDE,but >I'm very excited because it was such a beautiful song. Now maybe it's just me getting muddled, but there was a story one time that Tori had recorded an entire series of songs dedicated to Mark - not just "For Mark" which were destined never to see the light of day (for personal reasons - didn't they break up at one point?). I'm personally wondering if these might get released as B-Sides.. As for "For Mark" as a B-Side, I'd be very surprised. Very few songs show up twice on official releases with Tori (in the same country ) unless they're in a different form. We'll see.. you could be right.
