To ease someone into Tori I would suggest, in agreement, one from each album: 1) Winter (because it is understandable to just about anyone on any level) 2)Past the Mission (because Trents vocals are gorgeous, and yet again, it is an understandable song on many levels.) 3)Toughie, but you best bet on BfP *IMHO* would be either Hey Jupiter and/or In the Springtime. Hey Jupiter is yet again understanable on many levels while Springtime is just such a boss song that people can't help but like it. Jazzy and rhythmic, and yet can be understood on it's shallowest level by anyone. Funny note: My neighbor downstairs has been off from work this past week and has heard music playing. He made the comment I must be off my Tori kick. I asked why he thought that, since I have been playing a lot of YKTR and Boys. He said that Tori is so mellow, he and his wife love to listen to me playing little earthquakes at night because it is so relaxing, but he has heard some hard jamming lately. I explained (well, tried) that Tori is not always so mellow, that she can really rock, but I could see doubt in his mind. He just knows I'm rocking to bush or something. Funny how first impressions last long after they are invalidated. ;) Fairy Blessings, Beth ************************************************************* *We are all in the gutter, * *But some of us are looking at the stars" * *-Oscar Wilde- * +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ * *"Now is no time to think of what you do not have. * *Think of what you * *can do with what there is." * * - Ernest Hemingway- * ************************************************************* *"Don't Dream It~ *Be It" RHPS ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Feb 1998 10:20:33 -0500 From: skyewillow@juno.com (Susan E Lamberton) Subject: Silly question This may be a silly question, but I've seen many of you use this, and I'm wondering, what's "IMHO" ??? - -Sue _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Okay, to some of you, this may be no big deal, but for me here in Rochester, it's amazing. I have never heard Tori in any club anywhere. You hardley even hear her on the radio. But I was out Friday night at this wonderful goth club here and near the end of a wonderful night of dancing they played Precious Things. I freaked. I Had such a "Tori moment." My friends all made fun of me, but that's ok. I thoroughly enjoyed it. MIAMI: club crystals, caffe torino, churchill's hideaway WEST PALM BEACH: enigma, club 35, tremors, cafe sept, squeeze, citi club, cafe iguana coconut grove: cheers, taurus south beach: south beach pub, society hill, world resources, tobacco rd., bar 609, the chili pepper, bash, liquid thanx! ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 22 Feb 1998 15:02:43 -0700 From: "Carol Robertson" Subject: New to the List... Hi everyone! My name is Lyn and I'm new to this list....obviously....I am 17(on this March 13th!) with red hair and brown eyes.....and I'm 5'6....I love Tori Amos! I heard Cornflake Girl off of a CD I got at the library and I loved it! That was about 5 years ago! Now I'm trying to collect as much of Tori's music as possible! It's very hard though! I have all 3 of her solo albums and I have 9 of her singles...Cornflake Girl just came to the HMV stores yesterday and I was ecsatic! I love it! So if anyone has any info on where I can get more of Tori's stuff...feel free to tell me! And I was wondering if Tori has music for any of her covers? I'm looking for Thank You, Famous Blue Raincoat and Smells Like Teen Spirit....I would love to be able to play those! And I can't wait until her album comes out! Does anyone know the dates of when it comes out? I would like to know! Also, for her tours....has Tori ever come to Canada? I would love to see her in concert because I've heard that it is quite a sight to see! Another thing is, when will Tori appear on the talk shows? I had the dates but I managed to lose them....grrrrr.....Umm... my fave Tori song's would have to be Daisy Dead Petals, Sister Janet, Cornflake Girl, Father Lucifer....and there are so many more! i love Tori's music! I wish I had it all.... Actually it was Tori who inspired me to learn to play the piano! I started about 9 months ago and I'm already in Grade 3 Classical Repertoire...I love it so much! I now know why Tori has such a passion for the instrument! I wish I could learn her songs faster though...I'm just learning how to play Sister Janet... it's a great song...I'm playing hey Jupiter for a music festival and hopefully I'll win! That would be awesome! I think that's all that I have to say so I'll just say that I hope to hear from some of you soon! How many and where and from what tours were the TV appearances? I've got a bunch of them, but it's confusing 'cause I dont' have them all. I've got two Lettermans, two Leno's, a Regis and Kathy Lee, a Fox After Breakfast, an SNL, and that's it. Now, if you haven't noticed, I'm trying to sort through my convoluted collection. Everything's just sort of compiled onto lots of different sources which makes it VERY confusing. Now, I've got: Westwood One--A compilation of phone interviews with various radio stations abou the upcoming release of BfP. She just flew in late last night...bagels...etc Interview--A UFO release (I've got it on vinyl) with a beautiful pic disc of Tori looking in a mirror on the b-side and a head shot of Tori on the a-side. Very colourful, talks about faeries at first, then moves onto abortion and politics. Same interviewer as Alanis Morissette had on her Westwood One interview, if that helps at all. Tori Amos In Conversation--A very unofficial release (almost a bootleg in appearance) with her talking about musical influence, nothing in particular, mostly philosophizing, much like the above UFO. It is a Tori head shot on the CD cover with a black background and Tori distorted diagonally on the reverse. Interview (#3)--This has no jacket and is the latest release (I think) and has a n offset picture of Tori with her chest sticking out and wearing a white bra/band thing covering her all on a black background. Beautiful picture disc. You can see on the IGG page. It is the KROQ interview with Kevin and Bean. Is there a concert? It's cool for random info about Tori and neat stuff to know. Tea With The Waitress--Interview (NPR maybe?) about UtP, very insightful to songs, but mostly about each individual song on album. Good, synch background music from the album. I think that's about it. Now, my question, what else is out there, are there any names, any info I may have missed about this interview (I know as much as is listed above. Any additional info about these would be very helpful). So, thanx a bunch, guys. - --JOE ************************************************************** Alanis Underground www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/6864 Listen, My Children www.geocities.com/SoHo/Lofts/4845 Old Dads Club www.geocities.com/Athens/Delphi/8220 "Years go by, will I still be waiting for somebody else to understand" --Tori Amos "Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for believers in live, love, faith, and purity." --I Timothy 4:12 ************************************************************** ------------------------------ End of precious-things-digest V3 #68 ************************************
