I was visiting my best friend yesterday in the music store where she works, and a girl came in and asked if they had ever seen, or could order, a box set which includes "everything Tori Amos has ever done." I was completely puzzled and told her I didn't think such a thing existed, but the other girl behind the counter said it did. She said she'd seen it once, on vinyl, and the girl who was asking the question said a friend of hers had it. As far as I can tell they were NOT talking about the Tori Stories set. The girl behind the counter guessed it was an import, probably Japanese. I was surprised! So I wanted to ask all of you if you know anything about this. Has anyone heard of this set? What's it called? How much does it sell for? Why haven't I heard of it before? Curiouser and curiouser... Beth - -- "People always say you should be yourself, like yourself is this definite thing, like a toaster, or something. Like you can know what it is, even. Why do you love others, or care about others. Why do you think about somebody and decide to buy them a gift? It's because you love them. And I've thought about this a lot, and it still makes sense. How can I explain this? To love is the easiest thing there is, because you're receiving as much as you're getting at the same time. When you get this rush, you're not caring about the other person, you're caring about yourself only. Mmmm, ok. An example. I help others because helping others makes me feel good about myself. I don't necessarily have to love them. And when I help them I feel I'm the most generous person in the world, but I'm really selfish. Because it's not the *helping* part that I like. It's not the *sacrifice* part that I like, it's the *feeling good about myself* part that I like. Then we can only choose between being masochist and selfish. There's nothing else. I hate this. Take care, Alicia (who just arrived after 2 weeks on the beach, found her mailbox full and is trying to read all the precious-things-digests she has received since then, so because of that, she has trouble expressing what used to be clear in her head 2 days ago) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 19:47:40 -0500 (EST) From: fuzzbox@world.std.com (Miss Chanandler Bong) Subject: Re: Tori Box? > Because it doesn't exist. There was a serious clue in the poster's (beth's?)original text- she said that the clerk said that "it was only on vinyl". Obviously, the person was confusing either the "Pink Earthquakes" or the "Boys for Pele" box set, which look like they could hold vinyl... - -- Jason Bilsky fuzzbox@world.std.com http://world.std.com/~fuzzbox "I can't be really clear here, but if you know what I mean, you know exactly what I'm talking about." -Janeane Garofalo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 20:17:44 -0500 (EST) From: Richard Handal Subject: Re: Tori Box? It wouldn't surprise me in the least if someone released a bootleg set with a lot of singles on it, thinking they had "everything" on it or that they could convince others that they had everything on it. Jason may very well be correct in his assumption about this, though. But I don't think there's much to be gained by speculating about this. Either Beth Winegarner comes up with more info about this or she doesn't. Maybe this question will sound silly to some of you, but please humor me. I was thinking today of a present for Tori (because I'm determined to meet her when she comes to L.A. on the club tour), and the recent Disney thread came to mind. I thought it might be fun to get her sheet music for one of the songs suggested (I'm partial to a Marry Poppins tune), and ask that she sing it some time during her world tour, or maybe even that night. Now, here's where I started to wonder... She could probably play a song without the sheet music, right? But did she ever come to rely on reading music, or does she still do everything by ear, as she did in her Peabody days? Does she keep all of "the girls" in her head? I'm curious... I'm very anxious about the tour dates Tori's club tour starts April 18th, in the midst of midterms, papers, and finals. I'm just praying that when she comes to San Francisco it's not the day before a final or something, because I already know that I'm going to the Tori show here no matter what Uggggggh - -- Shirley Ye University of California, Berkeley shye@uclink4.berkeley.edu http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Studio/3305 ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 16 Feb 1998 22:02:41 -0800 From: Shirlgirl Subject: Re: Tori quote and its implications At 10:16 PM 2/16/98 GMT, Alicia wrote: >How can I explain this? I've been in relationships where I've given more than I've "gotten" and vice-versa as well. I really hate that because it seems petty - you know, keeping score - - and I'm probably guilty of it, but then I don't know if that's love. For me, love comes naturally, and I really want to do all I can to make my loved ones happy. It's not really about getting something back, for me, not if I really love the person. Rush is something wierd. I've wondered why I get that rush with certain people, and not with others. > >Then we can only choose between being masochist and selfish. There's nothing >else.
